He served more than 20 years with the United States Army both as a soldier and civilian, during which he conducted national security investigations and trained federal agents. We don't know exactly what he said, but historians are able to glean what he most likely said based on speeches he gave elsewhere during his speaking tour of that time. I'm sure you've heard about a new planned development named Airabella. Maybe you've seen the sign on Highway 44 and wondered what it was going to be? Or maybe you heard someone talking about it and are wondering what is the latest? My guest today is Kevin Bryant; Kevin is one of the partners in the project, Airabella Lake Oconee. This is a visionary, mixed-use development designed to redefine living, working and playing at Lake Oconee! Spanning 137 acres, this community will consist of, not only residential living at its finest, but is set to feature chef-driven restaurants, a boutique hotel, lots of local retail and even a nine (maybe 10!) hole public golf course! It will serve as an invitation to embrace life and connections in a walkable outdoor environment, with year round programs, all the while fostering community and relaxation. Kevin will talk about his extensive background in hospitality and hosting major events, what brought the project to land here at the lake and the vision that he and his partners have for Airabella. Why Airabella? He will tell us about that too! And we will discuss what makes Airabella a unique blend of luxury, leisure and lifestyle, not just for the residents, but also for all of us here in the lake area. It will be a true destination of opportunity to live life to its fullest! Perry wasn't here, however. He was sick with typhoid fever. Colonel Lang commanded the briagde in Perry's absence. Lang was a graduate of the Georgia Military Institute. Perry's (Lang's) small brigade was comprised of all the Florida regiments which served with the Army of Northern Virginia at the time. Kevin Bryant's Spies on the Sidelines: The High-Stakes World of NFL Espionage (Rowman & Littlefield, 2022) is first book to fully explore the extraordinary covert actions NFL teams are willing to take in order to win. Spies disguised as priests. Secret surveillance of targets' movements. Radio frequency jamming. Tapped telephones. These might sound like acts of espionage right out of the Cold War or a spy movie—but in fact came straight from the National Football League. In Spies on the Sidelines, Bryant provides the first in-depth investigation of spying in professional football, as well as the countermeasures utilized to defend against these threats. Spanning across all teams and eras, Bryant shines a light on the shady world of NFL reconnaissance—from clandestine photography and hidden draft prospects to listening devices and stolen documents—along with the permissible, if sometimes questionable, spy techniques teams utilize day in and day out to gain an advantage over their opponents. Written by a former Special Agent with decades of experience collecting and safeguarding information for the Department of Defense, Spies on the Sidelines reveals that, behind the game-day action, professional football can be as cloak-and-dagger as American intelligence agencies. The National Football League always casts a slippery slope with bending the rules. Our guest this week on the Original Sports Podcast with Mark Maradei is Kevin Bryant. Bryant has done in depth research and wrote about his discoveries in his book titled “ Spies on the Sidelines”. Kevin Bryant is an Army veteran with over twenty years of experience safeguarding and gathering information for the Department of Defense, including thirteen years as a Special Agent during which he conducted national security investigations and instructed federal agents in training. Kevin graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) with a B.A. in History, and graduated with top honors from American Military University with an M.A. in Intelligence Studies and an M.S. in Sports Management. During his senior year of high school he was selected onto the East-West Ambassadors National Select soccer team, composed of elite high school players from across the United States, and in college he played NCAA soccer for UCSC.  We talk with Kevin about his inspiration of the book, who he worked with to get his juicy details and who some of the more upstanding guys in the NFL really are. He also shares with us his take on how the league sweeps so much under the rug and what needs to change to help with “leveling the playing field”.  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kevinbryant.authorTwitter: https://twitter.com/kevbryantauthor Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kevinbryantauthor/ LinkedIn: @kevinbryantauthor =========================== CONNECT WITH US =========================== Check out our websites, apps and much more: https://www.originalsportspodcast.com/ Like our Facebook pagehttps://www.facebook.com/OSPwithMMJoin the conversation on Twitter https://twitter.com/OSPwithMMFollow us on Instagram pics https://www.instagram.com/originalsportspodcast                        Reach out to us on Snapchat at: OSPwithMMWatch our Tik Tok at: OriginalSportsPodcastSubscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVZuudj681oIAbnscyHBa0g?view_as=subscriber=========================== Feel free to let us know if you have any comments or questionsBy emailing us at: OriginalSportsPodcast@gmail.comVoice intro and outro: Shawn AntkowiakIntro and outro music provided by Charlie HodgsonWebMaster : Terri MaradeiJoin us each week to Experience the “O” on the Original Sports Podcast!!!

The first book to fully explore the extraordinary covert actions NFL teams are willing to take in order to win. Spies disguised as priests. Secret surveillance of targets' movements. Radio frequency jamming. Tapped telephones. These might sound like acts of espionage right out of the Cold War or a spy movie—but in fact came straight from the National Football League. In Spies on the Sidelines: The High-Stakes World of NFL Espionage, Kevin Bryant provides the first in-depth investigation of spying in professional football, as well as the countermeasures utilized to defend against these threats. This fascinating and expansive compilation of NFL spy anecdotes exposes the extraordinary measures teams are willing to take in order to win. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wvuncommonplace/message

You don't have to look very far under the surface of the average game in the National Football League to find cloak-and-dagger machinations worthy of governmental intelligence agencies. During the past several decades, teams have used both myriad spying tactics to gain extra advantages and extensive counterintelligence techniques to thwart them. The line between traditional espionage and NFL methods is surprisingly thin.David Priess chatted with author Kevin Bryant about historical and present-day examples of it all, building on Kevin's new book Spies on the Sidelines: The High-Stakes World of NFL Espionage. They discussed known cases of spying before and during the draft, extraordinary means of collecting information about opposing teams' practices and playbooks, common countermeasures of security officers employed by various teams, attempts to intercept signals and play calls, electronic interference with headset communications, locker room spies, evolving league rules about dirty tricks, and the ethics of it all. And, of course, a conversation about covert action in the NFL wouldn't be complete without attention to the recent twin scandals involving the New England Patriots, Spygate and Deflategate.Chatter is a production of Lawfare and Goat Rodeo.
