In this edition of American Road Trip Talk, we pay a visit to the Totem Pole Trading Post in Rolla, Missouri before it closes its doors on September 30. Since its grand opening in 1933 and opening the current store in 1977 from what used to be a Shell gas station, the Totem Pole Trading Post stocks its shelves with handcrafted gifts and merchandise that represent the image of Route 66. The owner of the shop, Tim Jones, joins us to reminisce on the legacy of Totem Pole Trading Post as he heads into retirement.

EP:102 Putting on your oxygen mask first… that's you've heard over and over and over and over and over again. The problem that I'm finding is that just because we know that phrase doesn't necessarily mean that I'm seeing that we're doing it as parents, and when you don't do it, what happens is you place yourself at the bottom of the totem pole. If you are currently ✅ Exhausted and depleted. ✅ You're waking up in the morning saying, I can't believe this is my life. I don't know how I got to this place. ✅ You resent your partner. ✅ You are so frustrated and annoyed with your kids. ✅ You're on antidepressants. ✅ You have high anxiety. ✅ You are unhappy. That probably means you are and that means that you're probably dysregulated and miserable. There are so many of you that we work with who just that simple phrase, I matter. You don't believe it. You don't trust it. There are so many individuals who we work with who just have built their own worth within taking care of everyone else around them. I just want to remind you today, if you haven't taken care of yourself in a while, to please do so if you need support, skip the vacation and pay for the support so that when you go on vacation, you'll enjoy the damn vacation. Find someone who feels best and right for you to guide you through your own journey of life. And most importantly, stop wasting time, because time is the most valuable commodity you will ever have, and you can't get it back. So this is your kick in the ass to start climbing that totem pole all the way up to the top, and take a breath once you're up there and enjoy. Bitcoin Greenhouse are developing and building an open source, solar powered bitcoin mining greenhouse on Haida Gwaii, the traditional territory of the Haida People, off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.   The Haida people currently live downstream from food and energy, power is provided by diesel generators, food sometimes shipped across Canada. Kiernan hopes his project can empower the first nations people of Canada to become sovereign again by producing their own food, energy, and secure sound money, as Bitcoin is the heart of this project. The open-source greenhouse will eventually provide food, jobs, and stability to the Haida Gwaii nation.   The greenhouses will be built in the longhouse style of the Haida Gwaii. The roofs of the structures are large and will be covered with solar panels, the panels will provide energy to the Bitcoin miners and any excess will be sold back to the grid. Paul Pritchard was a cutting edge British rock climber and mountaineer, whose love of the sport had taken him all over the world. Paul is also a writer, and when he won an award with his first book, he naturally spent the prize money on a world climbing tour, which took him to Tasmania. While climbing a 65 metre rock stack called The Totem Pole, he was struck in the head by a huge boulder, suffering a catestrophic brain injury. Paul spent a year in hospital and initally dotors through he might never walk or even speak again. He has though - Paul has climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, he's caved, sea kayaked, river rafted, ridden a recumbent bike through Tibet to Mt Everest and in 2016, he finally climbed the Totem Pole - 18 years after his accident. Paul is paralysed down one side, has epilepsy and issues with his his speech and memory but - amazingly - regards his accident it as a precious gift. He's speaking at the Mountain Film Festival in Wanaka, Queenstown and online; running between June 24 and July 2.
