Kevin Cline originally moved to San Francisco with intentions of returning home to the South after saving money through bartending. However, he quickly fell in love with the city and decided to make it his permanent home. Despite opportunities at iconic establishments like Bix, Cline ultimately preferred a slower pace, leading him to found The Front Porch—a Southern-style restaurant in the Southern Mission neighborhood. The restaurant embodies its name, offering a welcoming and easy atmosphere where patrons are encouraged to linger as if on their own front porch. As Kevin puts it: “We are good people serving good food to good people.” Meet Kevin Cline! https://www.thefrontporchsf.com/

Episode 37 of The Blank Canvas Podcast with Fred Schepisi. One of all time great filmmakers. Fred Schepisi steered Meryl Streep to an Oscar nomination for A Cry In The Dark, so too for Stockard Channing in Six Degrees of Separation. In fact, the worlds finest actors have been clamouring to work with Fred for 45 years; Helen Mirren. Donald Sutherland. Kirk Douglas. Michael Douglas. Will Smith. Meg Ryan. Michael Caine. Geoffrey Rush. Sir John Gielgud. Ian McLennan. Ray Winston. John Cleese. Jamie Lee Curtis. Kevin Cline. Tim Robbins, and the list goes on. Fred started out in the advertising world in Melbourne, directing both commercials and documentaries. His first feature-length movie was the semi-autobiographical The Devil’s Playground which won 6 AFI awards including Best Film. The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith , in 1978, won a few more AFI awards and was nominated for Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Fred then began working internationally, highlights include; Plenty (again with Meryl Streep), Roxanne (starring Steve Martin & Darryl Hannah) The Russia House (with Sean Connery & Michelle Pfeiffer), Last Orders, Eye of the Storm, and Words & Pictures starring Juliette Binoche & Clive Owen. The HBO movie Empire Falls, starring Paul Newman, Ed Harris, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Robin Wright, won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture made for Television. Fred has worked across most genres and is a master at adapting books to screen. Appropriately, he was awarded the Order of Australia for his service to the Australian film industry as a director, producer and screenwriter. Fred is a real character and a great conversationalist, he delivers a veritable master-class in film-making in this podcast, so much so, I’m releasing this chat over two episodes. https://fredschepisi.com/ W: https://theblankcanvaspodcast.com.au/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/leerogers12/ SOCIALS Insta: @theblankcanvaspodcast FB - The Blank Canvas Podcast Twitter: @blankcanvaspod THE BLANK CANVAS TEAM Produced by Lee Rogers & Rien MacDonald. Diamonds are stolen, fish are eaten, and running over somebody with a steamroller provides therapeutic benefits. Don't call me stupid.
Kevin Cline grew up in Florida, but he got out just about as soon as he could. In this podcast, Kevin, who co-owns Front Porch restaurant in Bernal Heights, shares stories of journeys that led him to San Francisco. First was a trip from Boston to Los Angeles, then from LA to San Francisco on bicycle. Then, based on what a good time he had in The City during that first visit, he decided to ride his motorcycle across the country to move here. Check back Thursday for Part 2, when Kevin will tell us the story of how he and Josey White opened the Front Porch. We recorded this podcast during quarantine in San Francisco in May 2020. Will Smith and Kevin Cline star in Wild Wild West - a movie based on the classic TV show. This movie has steampunk elements that have a lot of potential. However, potential doesn't mean it'll be a great concept for a movie. Dave Plemmons, Producer Phil and Jack breakdown this 1999 Will Smith potential Summer Blockbuster. We talk about many awesome things including what Dave has been into lately. Cross-posted on the Director's Club podcast feed RECORDED AS POP CULTURE CLUB: The Hollywood Reporter said that MEATHEAD GOES HOG WILD is "A psycho-breakdown flick that goes full-tilt violent without losing its odd, almost endearing underlying friendliness." Which is a great summation of this thought-provoking dark comedy that is somewhat inspired by one of my favorite movies AFTER HOURS. One of its creators, Sean Pierce has been on the show twice before as a guest for the Wim Wenders and Rainer Werner Fassbinder episodes. Along with Zach and Kevin, they each played a significant role in putting together an urban monster movie of sorts that's sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing, but consistently entertaining. Now that this very good film was just released on DVD and available on Amazon Prime, I figured it was a good time to catch up with this talented trio about the making of MEATHEAD, which if you look in the closing credits, you'll see my name as well as the name of this show! A lot of interesting topics emerge in addition to the filmmaking process, such as white privilege, mass shootings, as well as what it was like watching this film with an audience at the Fantasia Film Festival. Even if you've yet to see this film, and you should, this was a blast to record with three great guests supplying enlightening stories throughout. This week everyone is back in town and we've returned to Maestro's Cafe for the good eats, free parking, and a reunion of sorts. Eric's good friend of more than three decades, Kevin Cline (the musician, not the actor) is in town and took the opportunity to come by Maestro's to discuss what Eric was like in college, Chicago's local bar and restaurant scene, as well as what it's like to play in the "Blooze Brothers" tribute band. Oh, he also has a new CD full of great jazz music, including 4 tracks featuring flugelhorn legend, Bobby Shew. Today's show has music passages from Kevin's new CD, as well as last weekend's performances of the all-star quartet (featuring Daniel Askerov) and the SCSO playing Tchaik 5, plus a final end of show send-off of the Spizzwinks.
SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "For Our Kids" - Deborah Maddison, and Tracy Baxter, Canadian activists from British Columbia, will lead the this evening's discussion about the Rights of Children and Families in North America. States and Provinces are offered financial incentives to increase adoption numbers. All across the US, parents are suing CPS for malfeasance, the performance by a public official of an act that is legally unjustified, harmful, contrary to law or in violation of a public trust. In British Columbia, Canada, lawyer Jack Hittrich recently won a landmark case proving deliberate malfeasance on the part of CPS. ~~ Every two weeks a new THEME will be presented in this series, with frequent special guests speaking from their own experience. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/ForOurKids or write to: naasca.forourkids@gmail.com

Kelli Benis, author of "Shredding the Shame," Eugenea "Gina" Couture, who penned "Adoption Not An Option," and Kim Bartell, co-author with Theo Fleury of the new book, "Conversations with a Rattlesnake," are all confirmed for the show.
