On the Saturday January 4, 2025 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet Anna Lambe, an actress and television host from Nunavut. You’ve seen her in the feature film “The Grizzlies,” which earned her a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Most recently she appeared in HBO’s highly anticipated fourth season of “True Detective,” starring opposite Jodie Foster. Today we talk about her new project, “North of North.” In the CBC, Netflix and APTN series she plays a young woman who wants to build a new future for herself after a spontaneous — and extremely public — exit from her marriage. But it won't be easy in her small Arctic town where everybody knows everyone’s business. Then we’ll meet RaMell Ross, artist, writer, documentarian and director of “Nickle Boys,” an intriguing movie that was named one of the top 10 films of 2024 by the American Film Institute. It has also received several accolades, including a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Drama at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, and five nominations at the 30th Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Colson Whitehead, Nickel Boys chronicles the powerful friendship between two young Black teenagers navigating the harrowing trials of reform school together in Florida and it opens in theatres in Canada on January 10. Finally, we’ll meet director Tim Fehlbaum. He’s an award-winning Swiss filmmaker whose previous films, like “Tides” and “Hell,” focused on post-apocalyptic and science fiction stories. He returns to the real world with “September 5,” a new thriller starring Peter Sarsgaard and Ben Chaplin, and now playing in select theatres, an American sports broadcasting crew finds itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

We are so fortunate to have another Showrunner on the podcast. This time, Hank Steinberg. In 1997, Steinberg successfully sold the cable network HBO on 61*, a biographical drama about the legendary home-run race between Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle of the 1961 Yankees. The following year, Billy Crystal came aboard as a producer on the project and subsequently directed the film, starring Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper. 61* garnered 12 Emmy nominations, including Best Motion Picture for Television and Best Writing. Steinberg was also nominated for a WGA Award for the film. Steinberg then created the CBS show Without a Trace, which aired from September 26, 2002, to May 19, 2009. Without a Trace follows the cases of a Missing Persons Unit of the FBI in New York City. During his tenure as executive producer and show-runner, the show won several Emmy awards and a Golden Globe for lead actor Anthony LaPaglia, as well as earning a SAG and Humanitas nomination. Steinberg was executive producer and show-runner of Without a Trace for the first four seasons. Afterward, Steinberg created and was showrunner/executive producer of the ABC series The Nine, which he wrote with his sister, KJ Steinberg. The show ran for one season. Steinberg co-created and was executive producer of TNT's The Last Ship ,in 2014, which ran for five seasons. The Last Ship follows a naval destroyer crew, after a pandemic kills most of Earth's population. Steinberg went on to create and serve as an executive producer of the ABC American legal drama For Life, which premiered February 11, 2020.The series is a fictional legal and family drama inspired by the life of convict turned attorney Isaac Wright, Jr. The success of the show led his Channel Road Productions company to an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. Most recently, Steinberg landed a straight to series order with Fox for DOC, an adaptation of the Italian series of the same name.  Steinberg will executive produce under his Channel Road Productions. In this episode, we talk about: • His straight to series FOX show called Doc based on an Italian series • The story behind getting the pitch for For Life and why he had to come back to it • His advice on to get started writing for a TV show • His writing process and to just get through the first draft • Working with his sister KJ Steinberg on Nine (she is now working on This is Us) • Advice for actors approaching pilot auditions and why there are no small roles • The gentle balance between a strong pilot to hook in executives and having some discipline in holding back to have an engaging season • The genesis of Without a Trace and how they came up with the idea (question from Mentor David Grae) and why the pilot is the worst episode of a show • How he got the idea for 61* which focused on Roger Marris and Mickey Mantle's home run which was directed by Billy Crystal and garnered 12 Emmy nominations • Spec script on The Duel (Burr vs Hamilton) and his particular appreciation for Hamilton the Musical Guest: IMDb Wikipedia Variety article on new show DOC Host: Instagram: @MentorsontheMic @MichelleSimoneMiller Twitter: @MentorsontheMic @MichelleSimoneM Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/mentorsonthemic Website: www.michellesimonemiller.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/24mmichelle If you like this episode, check out David Grae - From Spec Scripts to Executive Producer of Madam Secretary Click here to join our Mailing list. Ads: Check out Cave Day right now. On today's episode of 'What's on the Box?', we have look at some films that were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture at the recent awards night. And no, there is little chance of me watching "Top Gun: Maverick" or "Avatar: The Way of Water" any time soon, so you can forget all about them. But I have managed to have seen three of those eight movies nominated. The eventual winner "Everything Everywhere All At Once", the Baz Luhrmann adaption of "Elvis", and the remake of the war novel "All Quiet on the Western Front". So to day we'll discuss these three very different films, and how (or whether) they qualify to be considered as 'Best Films' for the past 12 months. After this, I've also completed the new documentary on Netflix titled "MH370: The Plan That Disappeared" which delves into the many many scenarios and theories over the disappearance of this aircraft nine years ago, and whether it is worthy of your time. That's the content available for you on today's television related episode of the podcast that continues to offer opinions that no one cares about, Thoughts from the Metal Cavern.

My friend that is on here this week is actually a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults, her sister is also deaf, so this film was a lot closer to her than others we've done. The film was released in August of 2021 and is available to stream on Apple TV+, Apple bought the distribution rights for a record (at the time) $25 million after premiering at Sundance. It went on to win Best Motion Picture of the Year (the first movie produced by a streaming service to win Best Picture), Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Troy Kotsur became the first deaf actor to win an Oscar), and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars. The film was written and directed by Sian Heder (it was adapted from the French-Belgium film La Famille Bélier that was written by Victoria Bedos, Stanislas Carré de Malberg, Éric Lartigau, and Thomas Bidegain, and was directed by Éric Lartigau) and stars Marlee Matlin (first deaf actress to win Best Actress for Children of a Lesser God), Emilia Jones, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, and Eugenio Derbez. I highly recommend checking the film out, it was very well deserving of winning Best Picture. Nominees for the 2023 Golden Globes were announced Tuesday morning. Films Top Gun: Maverick, The Fabelmans, Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis and Tár are nominated for Best Motion Picture. A lot of attention is on nomination snubs and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in light of their 2020 scandal when it was shared through a LA Times investigation that there were no Black members of the HFPA, amongst other issues. The 80th Golden Globes will take place on January 10 at the Beverly Hills Hotel and will broadcast on NBC beginning at 5 p.m. PST. Netflix's latest docu-series “Harry and Meghan” is definitely giving all the drama and spilling the royal tea. The documentary series stars Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. The series has six parts and covers the couple's relationship from their early courtship to their decision to step back as working members of the British royal family. It also includes interviews with family, friends, historians, and journalists. Volume 1 premiered on Netflix on Dec. 8 and Volume 2 is set to be released on Dec. 15. Released on Dec. 9, singer-songwriter SZA dropped her second studio album, SOS. This is SZA's first album release since 2017 with her debut album, CTRL. SOS features 23 songs including pre-releases “Shirt”, “Good Days” and “Blind” and showcases new and fresh sides to the singer. The album is on pace to debut at #1 in the Billboard Top 200 chart. Singin' in the Rain was a product of MGM's so-called “Freed Unit,” named for the person who headed it -- Arthur Freed. Before this film, Freed worked on many of the best known musicals, both historically and of their respective days: The Wizard of Oz, Babes in Arms, Meet Me in St. Louis, Ziegfeld Follies, Easter Parade, On the Town, Annie Get Your Gun, Show Boat, and An American In Paris. It was after working on An American in Paris -- which featured music by George Gershwin, and went on to win 7 Academy Awards (including Best Picture) while becoming one of the top 10 highest grossing films of 1951 -- that Freed decided to put together another musical featuring pre-existing music by a specific songwriter… namely, himself, along with collaborator Nacio Herb Brown. The resulting film features tunes the duo wrote for previous MGM musicals. Screenwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green worked on the initial draft of the screenplay with Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen jumping in to collaborate on adjustments to the story once they were done with American In Paris. Debbie Reynolds, who was not a dancer before the movie began production, had a particularly rough time making the picture -- with Kelly being rough on her throughout and one extremely long day of shooting a number resulting in bloody feet. In 2003, she told the Saturday Evening Post that "Singin' in the Rain and childbirth were the two hardest things I ever had to do in my life." And the famed “Make ‘Em Laugh” sequence reportedly left heavy smoking Donald O'Connor recovering in a hospital bed for several days. The film was considered only a modest hit at the time it was released, though it did receive strong reviews from many of the major critics of the day and it did rank as the 10th highest grossing film of 1952. It was nominated for 2 Oscars -- Best Supporting Actress (Jean Hagen) and Best Scoring of a Musical Picture -- but won neither. The Academy Award for Best Motion Picture that year went to Cecil B. DeMille's The Greatest Show on Earth -- and that film was also the highest grossing of 1952. Over the nearly 70 years since its release, Singin' in the Rain has arguably become one of the best loved movies of all time, especially as far as Hollywood movies go. It wa among the first batch of 25 films considered "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" that the Library of Congress recognized in 1989 for its National Film Registry. And it was included in AFI's 100 Years, 100 Movies list in 1998, ranked at #10... then rose to the #5 spot when that list was updated in 2007. AFI also listed it as the #1 greatest movie musical of all time in 2006, beating out West Side Story, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, and Cabaret... in that order. For our purposes, the film first ranked in the top 10 of Sight and Sound Magazine's critics' survey of the best films of all time in 1982.. At #3. It was then a runner up in 1992 and at #10 in 2002. And though it didn't make the top 10 in 2012, it was included on the full list at #20, right behind Andrei Tarkovsky's Mirror and just ahead of Michelangelo Antonioni's L'avventura -- both of which we've discussed in previous episodes of this podcast… Ben Gibson, Director of the London Film School, put it on his list, saying: “Through the faked-up DIY of Singin' in the Rain, seemingly a mad throwing together of stuff that somehow just gels, we're allowed to feel the joy of creativity and to glimpse the very human face of genius. It's the least improvised film providing the most thrillingly spontaneous feeling to be had in a cinema.” Singin' in the Rain also came in at #67 on the 2012 directors' poll. Among the directors who voted for it were Francis Ford Coppola and Marc Webb. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/stereoactivemovieclub/message

WoHos!This week I looked at two Foundational films about identity.Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde is a 1971 British horror film directed by Roy Ward Baker based on the 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The film was made by British studio Hammer Film Productions and was their third adaptation of the story after The Ugly Duckling and The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll. The film is notable for showing Jekyll transform into a female Hyde; it also incorporates into the plot aspects of the historical Jack the Ripper and Burke and Hare cases.Dead Ringers is a 1988 psychological thriller film starring Jeremy Irons in a dual role as identical twin gynecologists. David Cronenberg directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Norman Snider. Their script was based on the lives of Stewart and Cyril Marcus and on the novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland, a "highly fictionalized" version of the Marcuses' story. The film won numerous honors, including for Irons' performance, and 10 Genie Awards, notably Best Motion Picture. In which the Mister joins me in reviewing DRIVE MY CAR (2021), which is currently streaming on HBO Max. Written and directed by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, with additional writing credits to Takamasa Oe and based on the short story by Haruki Murakami, this film tells the story of a man learning to carry on after the death of his wife. Yûsuke Kafuku (played by Hidetoshi Nishijima) is a lauded stage actor and playwright who takes existing materials and refashions them as multilingual dramatic pieces. His wife, Oto (Reika Kirishima) is a writer for television with a proclivity that includes storytelling during and after lovemaking. Yûsuke spends a lot of time driving and it affords him comfort during some turbulent times in his life. However after the death of his wife he seems to retreat even more into himself until two years later when he is offered the chance to stage Anton Chekhov's play Uncle Vanya, as part of a limited engagement repertoire in Hiroshima. Here he meets Misaki, the driver (played by Tôko Miura), with whom he spends most of his time and forges a friendship where they share a common ground of loss. The film has a run time of 2 h 59 m and is unrated on IMDB but there is depictions of sexual intercourse and mild cursing. The film is an Oscar contender with 4 nominations including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best International Feature. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. The Changeling  (1980)   The Canadian supernatural horror film from 1980; its plot follows an esteemed New York City composer who relocates to Seattle, where he moves into a mansion he comes to believe is haunted. The screenplay is based upon events that writer Russell Hunter claimed he experienced while he was living in the Henry Treat Rogers mansion in the Cheesman Park neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, in the late 1960s.  The film also features Melyvn Douglas also in our book to screen episode Ghost Story.  The film won eight inaugural Genie Awards, including Best Motion Picture, and was nominated for two Saturn Awards. It is considered one of the best horror films of all time, and one of the most influential Canadian films of all time.   The Fog (1980)   The John Carpenter's supernatural horror film would put mother and daughter scream queens in a film together in the form of Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis.   It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog that sweeps over a small coastal town in California, bringing with it the vengeful ghosts of mariners who were killed in a shipwreck there 100 years before.  A novelization of the movie, written by Dennis Etchison, was published by Bantam Books in January 1980. The novel clarifies the implication in the film that the six who must die were not random but in fact descendants of the six original conspirators.  The film has a guest star appearance by John Houseman who also features in our book to screen film this month Ghost Story.   We are joined by author Jim Wosochlo (Unexhumed, Appalachian Schaumboch's Tavern).  You can follow him via Twitter:  https://twitter.com/wosochlo   We are also joined by author Matthew Brockmeyer (Nest of Salt, Under Rotting Sky).  You can follow him via Twitter:  https://twitter.com/humboldtlycan     Opening Credits/Introduction (1.51); Oh My GOD!!! What is it like to give up everything for a dream and what can a tragic Hollywood production teach us? Today we will put headlines aside and pay a tribute to a woman, mother, wife and a cinematographer - Halyna Hutchins. Originally from Ukraine, member of ICG: International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), she graduated from American Film Institute in 2015. Her graduation project “Hidden”, co-filmed with director Ryan Farzad, was shown at the Camerimage International Film Festival in Poland. In 2018, she became one of the first eight female filmmakers to participate in the Fox DP Lab, which was created to empower female filmmakers. In 2019, American Cinematographer magazine named her a "rising star" of cinema as a Director of Photography. "Darlin'", a horror feature lensed by Hutchins and directed by Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead), has premiered at the SXSW film festival 2019 playing internationally at the Edinburgh Film Festival and received several international film awards. Her work on Adam Egypt Mortimer's art house superhero action film "Archenemy", starring Joe Manganiello, premiered at Beyond Fest 2020 and was in official competition at the Sitges International Film Festival, receiving a nomination for Best Motion Picture. Halyna's recent work also includes "Blindfire", a feature film written and directed by Mike Nell received Best Crime Drama at the Houston International Film Festival, 2020. Halyna Hutchins shot 30 films (short, features, TV series). On Thursday October 21st 2021 while working on the latest feature western film #Rust at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico she received a deadly wound from a shot fired by an award winning #AlecBaldwin (main actor and producer of the film ) with a prop gun that turned out to be loaded with real ammo just before the next take of a film. According to Los Angeles Times the same day a few hours before the incident a group of cinematography union crew members walked away from the set, to protest the working conditions of a low-budget film production. It was also reported that a few days before, the stunt double of Alec Baldwin accidentally fired 2 real rounds, from a prop gun which raised a number of concerns within the crew members, however these concerns were not addressed and production was rushed to continue. Safety protocols standard in the industry, including gun inspections, were not strictly followed (according to the witnesses). Investigation is ongoing with no charges filed as of now. A mother and a wife, Halyna was only 42 at the time. Her story proved that hard work and passion for your craft can make wonders and open many doors in life regardless of where you start from. My heart goes out to her family, friends and co-workers as well as all film industry workers who have suffered major injuries and lost their lives to their profession and a “The Great Silent”.

The genre of war films has been explored regularly throughout the years. These movies come in many different packages. There are standard installments where the message behind the film is the chaos of war and the lack of meaning behind the conflicts. Many of the Hollywood films over the years incorporate these messages in different stories from different wars. They are important messages, and there is a reason the genre is still explored today, but what doesn’t always get highlighted is the perspective of the other side. The movie ‘Valkyrie’ comes to mind when thinking about an American production told from the point of view of Germans. While the film can be considered well-done, with a solid leading performance from Tom Cruise, eyebrows were raised at this American telling of a German tale. This isn’t the only time a famous American movie decided to tell a foreign story. Another example is ‘Letters from Iwo Jima.’ Again, this can be considered a well-done film. It won an Oscar for Sound Editing and was nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Writing - Original Screenplay. Crucially, for this story, Iris Yamashita was involved in the writing. As such, it continues to be a network for the concerns/observations about cultural, psychological, political, environmental, ecological, social and philanthropic matters from the thousands of personalities who relish the opportunity. In their normal world, except for a privileged few, interviews and profiles are constrained by ‘showbusiness’ only agendas. We will continue to be the network that shows that they have the same serious concerns, interests and views as many of their constituencies. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

On this week's show we look at which streaming services were nominated for Golden Globe Awards and we ask the question;  “Should you pay to have your TV/Projector Calibrated?” We also read your emails and take a look at the news. Streaming Services nominated for Golden Globes It was a few years ago when Braden made a prediction that Netflix would win an award for one of it's original content titles. If we recall correctly, he got that prediction right. Fast Forward to 2021 and his prediction came true on steroids. We take a quick look at some of this years Golden Globe nominations. The entire list can be found here (Nominations for the 78th Golden Globe Awards (2021)) Best Motion Picture, Drama The Father (Sony Pictures) Mank (Netflix) Nomadland (Searchlight Pictures) Promising Young Woman (Focus Features) The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Netflix) Best Picture, Musical or Comedy Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (Amazon Studios) Hamilton (Walt Disney Pictures) Music (Vertical Entertainment) Palm Springs (Hulu) The Prom (Netflix) Best Director, Motion Picture Emerald Fennell, Promising Young Woman (Focus Features) David Fincher,  Mank (Netflix) Regina King, One Night in Miami … Aaron Sorkin, The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Netflix) Chloe Zhao, Nomadland Should you pay to have your TV/Projector Calibrated? We all want to get the most out of our TV/Projectors and taking the TV off of default settings is one big step we all can do quite easily. Changing the picture mode from Vivid or Dynamic to Cinema improves the picture dramatically. But what if you want more? You can hire a calibrator to come into your home and dial in the TV to get the absolute best out of the display.  We were perusing AVS Forum and saw a thread entitled “Should you pay to have your TV/Projector Calibrated?” This got our attention and we dove right in. The following are some posts from users at AVS forum. We have removed their names for this discussion. Comments to thread: 1) A professional calibration may (or may not) improve your display's PQ. IMO you don't "need" to have one done unless: PQ looks like crap and you're unable to adjust it to your liking; or you want to have one done. 2) I spent money to have my 4k projector in my HT (blacked out bat cave) professionally calibrated and it made a huge difference in the picture quality and was easily worth the money I paid for the service. I have a UST projector in the living room that was much less money and did my own calibration which is "good enough" as it's mostly for the kids watching cartoons and shows and playing games so doesn't need to be perfect. 3) I mean if you have a 50k HT system in a perfectly blacked out room yea he can probably give you your money's worth. 4) If you're spending a few hundred to get someone to calibrate a 3k set up yea you've gone insane should have just done it yourself not that hard to get it much better on most TV's from the factory. Maybe not perfectly adjusted to your ambient lighting. But IME what is accurate and what people actually want are two different things 5) I think we've all tried to turn down some overly vibrant reds or something on a TV then had the owner/roomate/SO/parent complain about how they don't like accuracy. 6) People need to start looking using their own eyes for once I think. It's all subjective.!! This guy say this color is red ! The next guy says it looks pink? That kind thing....but “ RED” is red not “ PINK” nor is it “ blue” right! 7) I have been a calibrator for over 20 years and while some displays (TV or projectors) are better than others out of the box they can still be noticeably improved. Quality of calibrator makes a difference as well as having the right equipment and not just the cheap probes one can buy. I agree that there is a lot of variability in quality of calibrator as it takes a lot to gain the experience one needs to get good. The older CRT front and rear projectors used to take a long time too but they had to be manually aligned, converged and focused which took a long time then you could adjust just the picture controls. The other factor is the experience with the devices being calibrated. I have spent two days calibrating a TV (non-CRT) to get it right. Nowadays, where I work we only calibrate displays that we are familiar with. When we get a new model we calibrate it to learn it. Because once you know a display inside and out calibration time is not as bad. I think we charge about $250 for most displays we are familiar with but a few models and video processors take longer so those are more. Especially ones where you are adjusting the tone mapping, even if automated for part of the process still takes a while depending on the number of color points. However, if someone calls and wants their Samsung calibrated we decline because we don't carry Samsung and are not familiar with it. It takes a while to get to know all the intricacies of a display and doing a model you are not familiar with definitely takes a lot more time. The funny thing is the less expensive displays are ones that often benefit the most from calibration but they are in a category people simply don't want to spend the money on if they didn't pay a lot for the display. If you want to get the most out of your display it is usually worth getting a calibration (I am biased:) but finding a calibrator that is good with experience on your display or something similar like last year's version is not always easy.

The film is an adaptation of the 1959 stage musical of the same name, composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The film's screenplay was written by Ernest Lehman, adapted from the stage musical's book by Lindsay and Crouse. Based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, the film is about a young Austrian postulant in Salzburg, Austria, in 1938 who is sent to the villa of a retired naval officer and widower to be governess to his seven children.[4] After bringing love and music into the lives of the family, she marries the officer and, together with the children, finds a way to survive the loss of their homeland to the Nazis. The film was released on March 2, 1965, in the United States, initially as a limited roadshow theatrical release. Although critical response to the film was mixed, the film was a major commercial success, becoming the number one box office movie after four weeks, and the highest-grossing film of 1965. By November 1966, The Sound of Music had become the highest-grossing film of all-time—surpassing Gone with the Wind—and held that distinction for five years. The film was just as popular throughout the world, breaking previous box-office records in twenty-nine countries. Following an initial theatrical release that lasted four and a half years, and two successful re-releases, the film sold 283 million admissions worldwide and earned a total worldwide gross of $286,000,000.The Sound of Music received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film also received two Golden Globe Awards, for Best Motion Picture and Best Actress, the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Musical. In 1998, the American Film Institute (AFI) listed The Sound of Music as the fifty-fifth greatest American movie of all time, and the fourth greatest movie musical. In 2001, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".Movies Discussed:The Sound of Music West Side Story Hedwig and the Angry InchJersey BoysAmistadJoin our Man Bites Media Family every Friday as we bring you 5 films each week and the latest movie news.www.ManBitesFilm.com#Comedy #Horror #Netflixmovies #Amazonprime #Hulumovies #Luislacau #Manbitesmedia #Manbitesfilm #Brandenlacau #williamphoenix #Hulu #Shudder #Netflixoriginal #Hulu #Scifi #Comedies #Dramaseries #mbm #podcast #fandom #nerds #geeks #moviesreview #anime #miamireviews #newyorkmovies #Orlandomovies

James Keach has been a part of the film industry as an actor, director, writer, and producer. He has appeared in over fifty feature films and has produced and directed hundreds of hours of television. His most recent success was the award-winning documentary “Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me,” which showed the legendary singer’s unprecedented “Goodbye Tour” after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. James’ 2018 documentary feature film, “Augie,” tells the story of Augie Nieto, the genius entrepreneur and LifeFitness founder who was diagnosed with ALS over a decade ago and how he continues to work every day to find the cure for the disease. Before that, James has produced “Walk the Line,” for which the Producerʼs Guild of America nominated him Motion Picture Producer of the Year. The film was also nominated for several Academy and Golden Globe awards, winning the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture and garnering Reese Witherspoon her Academy Award for Best Actress. On This Episode: A discussion of James’ gripping new documentary, “Turning Point.” The filmmaker takes us inside the quest for the first medication that could treat the underlying process of Alzheimer’s disease, more than a century after Dr. Alois Alzheimer first described the brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and cognitive skills. Along the way, we meet the people behind these grand experiments: the scientists driven as much by personal conviction as professional innovation. 节目组:The Screen Age 荧屏时代 节目名称:Film Festivals and Awards开头曲 Queers(Main theme) S: Good evening, my dear audience. This is the time belongs to the Screen Age. I'm your old friend Shinskie Bee.L: This is Lynn. Well, Bee, Did you hear about some film awards like the Academy Award.S: Sure, it's too familiar to me.L: And today, it's a special program of the Screen Age. We'll introduce you some famous film festivals and awards.S: Wow, that's cool. I can't wait it. Let's get it started! 插曲1 Sol——Misha Mishenko S: In general. What is the most familiar to us is the Academy Award. It has a popular name, Oscar. This name came from an old librarian of the Academy of motion Picture and Sciences. One day, when she passed away from the golden status. She said surprisedly:” Wow, it's just looks like my uncle, Oscar. Occasionally, a reporter heard of her words and reported this the next day. The title of it is just the “the Academy of motion Picture and Sciences worker called the golden status, Oscar affectionately”. And then, the new name, Oscar has been more and more popular.L: The Academy Award was made by the Academy of motion Picture and Sciences. It's a American annual film award which commend film industry achievement. It could be a simple international standard to judge whether a film is good or not. It includes all kinds of films. It establishes more than 20 different awards.S:Besides, it is the oldest media awards in the world. It has become one of the most influential movie awards in the world. The annual awards ceremony will be lived in television in more than 100 countries. The position of it can be just like the Grammy Awards for music, the Emmy Award for TV dramas, the Tony Awards for plays in America. The Academy Award not only reflects the development and achievement of American film art, but also has great influence on film art in many countries in the world.L:The prize looks like a naked man whose hands fold on his chest and hold a sword. It stands in a ring disc which symbolize the important work department of each rings. They are represent the file's producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, and technical personnels.S:The winning list will be sealed. In the awards ceremony, no one has the right to know the results before the host opens it. This approach is an undoubtedly finishing touch of Oscar. It is a model for international film festival. Afterwards, it has become a model for many international film festivals.L:In the 89th the Academy Award ceremony, a famous own goal happened. The Best Motion Picture was announced as the La La Land at first. After that, When the media is in carnival, the organizing committee announced urgently that the Moonlight should win that prize. It's so funny that it happened in such an important film festival. 插曲 2 Sol——Misha Mishenko S: And now, we are going to introduce the three most famous international films festivals in Europe to you. They are Venice International Film Festival, Cannes International Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival.现在让我来为大家介绍三个欧洲最著名的国际电影节,它们分别是威尼斯国际电影节,戛纳国际电影节和柏林国际电影节。L:First of all, Venice International Film Festival was found in 1932. 在1932年首届威尼斯国际电影节举行,另外他也是世界上第一个电影节哦!Because it is the first film festival in the world. It is known as the father of international film festivals. It could be said that it is a cradle to plenty of film masters. The highest award of it is Golden Lion Award. By the way, it is held in Venice in August or September every year. S:The main aim of it is to improve the art level of the films. Actually, most of the Golden Lion Award was given to the men directors. As we know, The representative film of ethnic Chinese director, Ang Lee is Brokeback Mountain. It won the Golden Lion Award in 2006. In this year the film which won that award is The Shape of Water. And it is a great fairy tale to the adults.威尼斯国际电影节最高奖项就是我们所熟知的“金狮奖”,而我国导演李安凭借着电影《断背山》获得2006年的“金狮奖”。L: Cannes International Film Festival is one of the most influential international film festival in the world today. It was held in May every year in Cannes.戛纳国际电影节每年五月会在法国戛纳举办,戛纳也是一个有着各种美食美景魅力之都,在参加电影节之余也可以在戛纳转上一转,领略一下这个地方的神秘与美丽。 It was found some special activity units. What is worth mentioning is “Un certain regard” and “La Quinzaine des Realisateurs”. They attract a lot of potential and achieved directors. Besides, the Golden Palm Award is the highest award of it. The trophy was made like a golden palm too.S:The difference with The Oscars is that it doesn't have distinguish between in the leading role and the supporting role in actor awards. What's more, the script to that award also doesn't have distinguish between original and adaptation. The Square won the 70th Golden Palm Award. It told about the daily life of the middle class. It discussed whether the middle class's embarrassment leaded to the individual's discontent or the whole environment's anomic.戛纳国际电影节的最高奖项是“金棕榈奖”,自由广场赢得了第70届金棕榈奖。L:The last one is Berlin International Film Festival. The Golden Bear is known as the highest award of it.最后一个当然就是我们的柏林国际电影节啦,它在每年的二月举办,奖项是一个超级可爱举着胳膊的小熊哦! It likes a bear raising one of its arms. The aim is to strengthen the communication with film workers. To avoid the Cannes International Film Festival, February is the new time to hold this film festival. From then on, although the audiences have to be wait coldly over there, they'd like to watch some better films. S:The most difference with others is that the best film decision is up to the common cinephiles. It wins great popularity because of it. The word ‘Berlinale' is short for the “Berlin International Film Festival”. This week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show features two firsts. David Friendly is the director and producer of the new documentary on sneaker culture known as "Sneakerheadz". David is the first Best Motion Picture of the Year Oscar-nominated guest--for his work on the great movie Little Miss Sunshine--to sit down at the virtual bar and salon known as The Chauncey DeVega Show. David Friendly is also the first person to spend some time chatting with Chauncey DeVega who has won a BAFTA for Best Film. Steve Scheier is the author of the new book Do More Good. Better. He is the first organizational consultant with expert and practical advice on "diversity", "leadership", and "the workplace" to be a conversation partner on The Chauncey DeVega Show. This is a good and informative episode. Chauncey and David talk about being a "closer" in the film business, the art and politics of sneaker culture, how making a documentary is different from working in other genres, and how sneaker culture is a type of social history. In the next segment, Chauncey and Steve talk about a wide range of topics. How does a person navigate the corporate and not for profit worlds? How do questions of leadership, identity, and decision-making interact and complicate one another? Steve and Chauncey also explore such topics as privilege, consulting, communication styles, and remaining positive and productive in the face of the challenging realities of the contemporary workplace where one may be afraid of truth-telling? What about finding a mentor? Surviving a toxic work environment? During this episode of The Chauncey Devega Show, Chauncey also works through his mental confusion as caused by the Chicago heat, reflects on being slurred by a drunk woman at the local tap, is upset about ign't "Serial", talks about Donald Trump and pro wrestling, and shares the biological science that drives his addiction to high fructose corn syrup.

Welcome to episode 15, the episode in which we take on the mighty "Argo". Directed by and starring Ben Affleck and winner of the Best Motion Picture award at the 2013 Oscars. We wanted to see if this film truly lived up to the hype. Obviously, with this being based on the true events from 1980 their is a lot of oppurtunity to chat about the differences between the actual events and what has been added to the film. But really the thing that we were both fascinated by and really wanted to get our teeth into was admiring Afflecks attention to detail when researching for this film and the tremendous lengths the cast and crew went to to keep it as authentic as possible. On top of that we are spoilt with a first class ensemble cast supporting Affleck in the lead role including John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, Tate Donovan and many more to get us interested. We hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for more new episodes coming very soon. Where Hollywood Hides: Television | Movies | Music | Show Business | Writing | Producing | Directing | Acting

Celebrating their milestone 10th episode, Suzanne bathes in the afterglow of Ben Affleck’s Argo win as Best Motion Picture at the 2013 Academy Awards, but chastises the show’s producers not having someone on hand to catch Jennifer Lawrence when she took a tumble on her way to accept her Oscar.  Suzanne mentions the birthday of an iconic I Love Lucy star, and Bob recalls being on the Paramount Studios lot with Lucy where Desi Arnaz reinvented the way sitcoms are shot.  We then learn about the gloriously indulged life of a writer-producer working under contract to Aaron Spelling and Suzanne shares details of Spelling’s background that eventually led him to become the most powerful TV producer in history. When Spelling handed Bob Jackie Collins’ Hollywood Wives to read, it was the beginning of an incredible year that had him hob-nobbing with major showbiz icons like Rod Steiger, Candace Bergin, Robert Stack, Suzanne Somers, Angie Dickenson, Joanna Cassidy, Stephanie Powers, and the man who would later become “Hannibal Lecter”, Anthony Hopkins. Suzanne finally gets Bob to admit that he was a bit of an early sleaze-meister while astutely drawing the parallel between Hollywood Wives and today’s Kardashians, proving her theory that little has changed when it comes to attracting an audience because “it’s all entertainment.”
