Episode #510: Unlocking Engagement-Lauren Foundos Discusses Engagement and Retention Strategies

HALO Talks

We're excited to bring back Lauren Foundos, founder of FORTE. Join her in a deep dive into the dynamic world of virtual fitness and digital engagement. Lauren transitioned her company through the intense periods of the pandemic by focusing on survival and being nimble. As the world shifted towards hybrid work post-pandemic (particularly with many NYC companies settling on a sort of 3 days in office, 2 days out), she noticed the parallels between this new work dynamic and the ever-evolving fitness landscape.  Lauren and host Pete Moore discuss the crucial role of relationships and engagement in the middle market, the benchmarks for success in virtual class participation, and the long-term value of community building. She provides insights on leveraging live-streamed classes and data to boost member retention and overall experience. We'll also hear about the challenges of maintaining client attention, and the evolving landscape of video and streaming technology in the HALO space. We'll wrap up with a closer look at leveraging competition and technology to drive engagement and success. On the evolution of the fitness space Foundos states, "I'm hoping to see everyone playing together because on some days you want to bike at home. Some days you want to go to the gym and some days you want to run outside. I hope that this industry is going to start realizing it's important to meet the customer's behavior where they are, as opposed to wanting them to operate in a different way." Key themes discussed Variety of tactics for engaging gym members. Some clubs (wrongly!) want to hide data from trainers. Volunteer discusses quantifying and tracking engagement. CRMs help track engagement and retention data. Owner needs to believe in the business decision to bring in FORTE.  A few key takeaways:  1. Lauren and Pete emphasize that in the middle market, building strong engagement and relationships is crucial. Whether it's through online or in-person classes, the ability to connect meaningfully with clients significantly impacts retention and community involvement. 2. This episode shed light on the ROI for virtual fitness classes by highlighting the importance of long-term engagement and community-building, rather than just the immediate financial returns. This forward-thinking approach helps ensure sustained participation and loyalty. 3. Lauren shared insights on how FORTE has evolved during and after the pandemic. The shift to a hybrid work-from-home and gym environment necessitated innovation and adaptability, particularly in video and streaming technology, to meet the changing needs of clients. 4. Successful engagement and retention strategies include offering live-streamed classes, enhancing the user experience, and leveraging relationships with instructors. This personalized approach helps foster a sense of community and maintain client loyalty. 5. Foundous also discussed the potential of using technology, like MyZone, to foster competition and engagement among gym members across different locations. This can enhance the interactive experience and motivate clients through challenges, making workouts more engaging and fun. Hey Everyone,In today's episode we have the pleasure of being joined by a lady who has quite literally revolutionized the fitness industry. CEO and founder of her company FORTË, Lauren Foundos is the epitome of what it is to be an entrepreneur. Lauren's journey from being a two-time all-American field hockey player, to spending a decade working on Wall Street, to creating a global tech business with no tech knowledge, is a phenomenal story. Lauren is humble, down to earth and straight to the point when it comes to business, her thoughts and insights are inspirational to say the least. In this episode, we talk about,Lauren shares with us her incredible journey from working on Wall Street for 10 years to deciding to create a tech business with no tech knowledge. We have a conversation about the importance of exercise on mental health and how FORTË has changed the lives of countless individuals by offering an alternative to exercising in a physical class environment.Lauren shares her experiences of being a female CEO and the challenges she faced with her concept, which back in 2015 many believed to be a ridiculous idea.Lauren shares her experience and opinions on the importance of having a support network around yourself. People you can not only trust, but that are willing to tell you the truth. We explore the idea that confidence is actually a result of taking action, rather than something that you necessarily are, or constantly have. That if you're not fortunate enough to have a supportive family, there is always the option to create and grow a friend family, that not only can support you but you can support. We discuss that nothing is VERY easy at first, and that it's going to be messy. Lauren shares her thoughts about needing to be patient with yourself, and that nobody has it perfectly figured out.How Lauren believes that everyone has a superpower, and that hers is her ability to relate to people. As move me towards the end of the episode Lauren recaps her belief that knowing you're always going to be OK, and it's never the end of the world is a MUST in order to have deep inner confidence.Lauren's passion and drive appears to be almost effortless and has played an obvious role in her success. Couple this with her tenacious mindset to succeed and it's no surprise that FORTË is now a global leader in the streaming of fitness classes across the globe. What's beautiful about today's episode is how grateful and honest Lauren is about the support she has had along the way, and that without that support, she really wouldn't be where she is now. Honest, direct, funny, hard-working and someone who I can call a beautiful friend, enjoy today's episode with Lauren Foundos. If you enjoy the podcast, please SUBSCRIBE to our show and leave a review. Links from the episodePodcast - How I built this https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id1150510297?mt=2 Book - The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*UK by Mark Manson - https://amzn.to/33zUuwoFor more information on Lauren visit,FORTË's site is: https://www.forte.fitFor more information about Kerry's work visit,Website: https://www.kerryhearsey.com   For more information about Adams work visit,Website: My Coach For Life | Life beyond limits

Lauren Foundos is the Founder and CEO of FORTË, a streaming platform that brings live and on-demand boutique fitness classes to your home. It’s the Netflix of gym memberships. How cool is that? Lauren Foundos never set out to be an entrepreneur. She had a thriving career as a bond trader, but the Wall Street lifestyle was preventing her from integrating a core passion of hers, working out. So Lauren assembled a crew of co-workers and clients who, instead of going out to happy hour, would go to boutique fitness classes after work. Lauren’s love for working out and the community atmosphere ignited her passion to bring the boutique fitness experience to everyone, no matter where they lived! In this episode, Lauren shares how she developed a robust streaming platform with no tech experience. She goes into to detail about the importance of spending wisely and keeping a lean budget while expanding your business. She also offers insight about free marketing through strategic partnerships and leveraging the partner's network to share your business's message. There is no doubt that Lauren is an innovator and an expert in a new fitness industry. She is so encouraging as she confidently advises all entrepreneurs to stay focused on the present goals, and don’t get overwhelmed by the future.
