Art evokes passion and feeling and transporting you to another place. But artists aren't always born - they are often made. Along they way, they may have find themselves in very unartistic circumstances. Today's guest is artist, Linda Riesenberg Fisler. While working at Proctor and Gamble she had some very... Interesting roles, but after reaching management, she set off on a new direction that changed her life completely. Feeling the pull of her creative side, Linda headed to USC for film, and then visual arts. She moved from Proctor and Gamble to becoming a professional painter. She explains that there are millions of artists all vying for your attention and money, but she knew that to be successful as an artist, it takes more than artistic talent. You need to have a marketing plan. To make a living as an artist, you need to have business skills to go along with your creative skills. Linda even co-founded a non-profit to teach artists how to be more business-centric. She discusses the process of marketing yourself vs. going with an agent, how to treat your art as a product and not one of your children, how anyone can become an artist, and how to avoid scams. Linda interviews Mary Castillo, author of romantic comedy and paranormal mystery/romance novels. This delightful chat includes conversations on Mary's journey, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and other exciting topics. Here's Mary's Bio: It is no wonder that Mary Castillo is a paranormal mystery and romance author. She grew up in a haunted house. Her mom once found her in the closet talking to the nicest lady who had a daughter and two sons. Mary was the only person in the closet and the more questions her mom asked, the plainer it was that her then three-year-old child described the previous (and deceased) resident of their house! Mary grew up in the same town as the psychic detective of her paranormal mystery series, Dori Orihuela. She even “gave” Dori her dream home, a three-story white Edwardian mansion based on a real historic property. (And no, there are no bootleggers buried in their backyard!) Also, Mary made Dori a tough, smart robbery detective because Mary has discovered from practical experience as a former reporter that is not cop material. She likes to think that Dori is a psychic version of Wonder Woman! With her degree in history, Mary also loves to find and share untold histories such as bootlegging women and no-nonsense World War II era nurses. Mary’s background is in marketing, public relations, and journalism, proving that yes, you can make a living as a writer! Combining her love of the paranormal with historical, Gothic fiction is a dream come true. Mary now writes the books she loves to read—chilling, psychic suspense novels with sexy heroes and courageous heroines. However, her current home in Orange County, California is not haunted.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/LindaRiesenbergFisler)

Join Linda Riesenberg Fisler, Blanche McAlister Harris, and Barbara Coleman as we talk with California Lutheran Art Department Chair and TRAC2014/TRAC2012 Chairperson/Organizer and artist Michael Pearce. Our past shows have centered on the past--studying past masters, looking at different art movements, so we'll change it up with this show and focus on emergence. What is the art voice for the 21st Century? Are you in tuned with the art movement of the 21st century or content to repeat the past styles? What is 21st century beauty and is it different than in past centuries? Time for some forward thinking! We'll have a special announcement on this show, so don't miss it!(Like this show?
