On this podcast episode Juliet is joined by British paper and written text artist Caroline Attan. Her works are instantly intriguing and striking using organic visual representations in order to merge folded paper with poetry, paradox and metaphors. The concepts and compositions in her artworks collide as coloured, patterned and folded structures, together create a woven and textual narrative. Her picture mainly consists of dense circular composition of folded shapes rotating along side, and above hand written poetry. Caroline frequently selects extracts from Latin American poetry, which is where the cultural significance comes into play. This is reflected in context and language the elements of the poetry are interpreted through colour, form and rhythm. Her works also utilizes literary extracts by authors such as James Joyce to inspire her compositions.A series of works by Caroline Attan are currently included in the exhibition CLAY, INK, PAPER at the Nordic Art Agency gallery. You can view all works online in the digital exhibition catalogue.Caroline Attan is represented exclusively in Scandinavia by the Nordic Art Agency and you can follow her on account instagram.

Saint has spent much of his career as a successful New York based photographers of iconic actors, musicians, athletes and fashion. The iconic images shot by Saint are a testament to his skill and understanding of the human form and this career has led to a constant revaluation and development of his photographic practices reimagining the role of lighting in photography by adapting techniques from scientific applications of flash and stroboscopics.During his extensive career Saint has photographed actors and musicians such as Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Alesia Keys and Lady Gaga and athletes who are top of their game including Lebron James, Christiana Ronaldo and Serena Williams. In 2018 there was a further shift in experimental techniques in photography which merged into an artistic practice using his photographic images as the basis of figurative, mixed media composite portraits and it is this which now dominates his creative focus. This podcast gives an insight into Saint's development as an artist and painter and he discusses his the process and intention behind his most current body of work A Legacy of Light.Saint will be exhibiting his new series at a gallery exhibition in New York this October and you can follow him on Instagram for all the latest news.

Florence Evans is an art dealer, historian, curator, collector and mud larker. We chat on what does mudlarking tell us about history ? What does art tell us about being human ? …we mustn't forget is that ultimately there's a real human connection with beauty. So conceptual art aside which serves an important purpose and helps us to think and challenges us in many ways. On the other hand, there's a human need, I think, a kind of nesting instinct to have art for the home, things of beauty to lift your spirits. I think that's really elemental. … Florrie chats on the cultural history of mudlarking, the stories found objects represent from the both the darker side of human history such as beads and the slave trade, as well as the lighter sides of found items. We discuss one of her favourite finds, a whole child's shoe from the Tudor era. We chat on what we've puzzled out from our river finds including a hand blown glass apothecary bottle from the 1600s. We discuss: bottles, beads, coins, stories, Roman items, buttons and costumes and more… We touch on her philosophy as an art collector and what art means to us as humans. One of my happiest achievements in my career thus far was curating an exhibition on mudlarking and mudlarked art in 2019 for the Totally Thames Festival. That was an exhibition that I put on showing art by artists featuring mudlark finds, still life photographs by Hannah Smiles; a photographer of mudlarked finds and portraits of mudlarks as well that she had taken. That was in the Bargehouse which is a massive warehouse space on the South Bank by the Oxo Tower; so right by the river. That was a joy to be asked to do that and it felt like it was a fusion of both my passion, hobby; mudlarking and what I do in work which is curate and look at art. So that was a fusion of art and mudlarking and looking at craft and elevating it to art. Looking at history and saying, "This is part of who we are as human beings. We create-- There is an impulse and an urge to make things of beauty. Even things that are utilitarian, there's beauty to be found." And that kind of links back to the philosophy of someone like William Morris who believed that art should always be useful and beautiful. What art Florrie likes and collects and the challenge of modern art. Florrie gives her advice on art collecting and life. I've always done what I love and it gives me great satisfaction. You can always find your people, you can always find your niche even just by going online. It's amazing how the world opens up. As long as you are doing something that you're passionate about, you should be okay. Art collecting is a passion for many wealthy Americans. This was on display earlier this month, when the collection of Paul Allen, the late cofounder of Microsoft, was auctioned for $1.6 billion, setting a single-evening record. I doubt many of our listeners will have clients who amass a collection of that magnitude, but many will use their wealth to purchase art – either for esthetic reasons or in the hope that its value will appreciate. My guest today will discuss some of the principles and nuances one should know before purchasing art. - Here is a link to the FreedmanArt gallery. In this special episode, journalist Anny Shaw investigates some of the most important findings from the Art Basel and UBS Art Market Report 2022. She speaks with Chief Economist of UBS Global Wealth Management Paul Donovan and collector Amitha Raman about the impacts of the current economic crises and Brexit on the art market and collecting habits, as well as the effects of globalization versus localization. “Online art fairs gave a lot of transparency,” Raman notes. “We were able to view a lot of work and understand pricing for a lot of artists in a very efficient way.” The three also address the ways in which buzzwords like ‘sustainability' and ‘diversity' have—or have not—been practically applied in the market sector. Plus, Shaw asks, what's in store for 2023?
