On this episode, NCBA President and Wyoming rancher Mark Eisele joins to share his personal story on taxes and how a large tax bill almost ended his lifelong dream of ranching with his family. From that experience, Eisele explains why the fight for lower taxes is so important for NCBA and he delivers a powerful message about how policymakers should address agriculture's unique tax needs and support the economic success of America's cattle farmers and ranchers.

Was treibt Putin an? Giuliano da Empoli gilt als Experte in Fragen von Macht, Propaganda und Manipulation. Nun hat der Wissenschaftler und Politikberater einen Roman über das Zentrum der russischen Macht geschrieben. In «Der Magier im Kreml» versetzt er sich in den Kopf eines Mannes, der bis vor ein paar Jahren als engster Berater Putins galt. Aus dem Trauma dieser Kindheit voller unvorhersehbarer Gewalt muss die Ich-Erzählerin Jeanne ihren Weg finden. Die britische Schriftstellerin Anita Brookner begann erst in ihren Fünfzigern literarisch zu schreiben. In 24 Romanen beschrieb sie meist alleinstehende Charaktere, die versuchen, Anschluss zu finden. Im Roman «Seht mich an» erzählt Brookner die Geschichte einer unverheirateten Frau, die nach dem Tod der Mutter mit der Haushälterin in ihrem Haus lebt. Eines Tages lernt sie ein schillerndes Paar kennen, die für sie das Tor zu einer neuen Welt sind. Der Schweizer Schriftsteller Christian Haller – der auch Biologe ist – hat vor kurzem seinen 80. Geburtstag gefeiert. In seinem literarischen Werk kommt immer wieder auch sein Interesse für Naturwissenschaft zum Tragen. In der jüngst erschienenen Novelle «Sich lichtende Nebel» erzählt Haller von einer rätselhaften abendlichen Begegnung zweier Männer in einem Kopenhagener Park. Den Beobachter dieser Szene, Werner Heisenberg, führt sie zur Entwicklung der Theorie der Quantenmechanik – die ein neues Weltbild schuf. Husband and wife team Erin Eisele and James Alford created the concept for Cork & Cap Bottle Shop on their first date. It now lives beyond the imagination in a yellow Craftsman house in downtown Aiken, SC, and in the few years it's been opened, has impacted the culinary landscape of the Midlands. James, a wine professional, had worked for distributors, in restaurants crafting wine lists, including Motor Supply Company in Columbia, SC, and as a consultant. Erin, a native of Aiken and marketing and local food advocate, understood the region and the way spaces and places like Cork & Cap can make an impact on a community and for the producers they champion. Together they've created a space that is way more than a retail shop: it is a learning experience, an enthusiastic advocate for modern wine making, a community space, and a place -- essentially-- that is much more about the culture of sharing good food and drink around the table than just a bottle of wine. Wine is the creative beginning for Erin and James, and it is taking them delicious places.

Dr. Joanna Eisele is a visiting assistant professor at Rollins College in Florida. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology in 2014 from UCF and specializes in social inequalities. She teaches a variety of sociology courses and approaches them from an inequalities perspective. She is a mom of two and a powerlifter. Love this for her!
