In this special edition of the Real Estate Lowdown podcast, we're bringing you in on the kick off of our 2024 Win-Win Webinar Series. This stands out as one of the most insightful and relevant sessions we've ever conducted.I had the distinct honor of hosting this compelling heart-to-heart discussion with three dynamic women leaders who definitely feel the pulse of and are shaping a new landscape in real estate and mortgage finance.Lena Motz, CEO & CIO of Stillwater Asset Management, Linda Taylor, CEO of H.O.M.E.S., Inc., and entrepreneur, Trixy Castro, are at the helm of their businesses breaking barriers and unveiling the impact of female leadership on an industry at the cusp of transformation, within the traditionally male-dominated sectors, discussing the blend of transparency, emotional intelligence, and inclusive work environments that are setting new standards. Going beyond the surface, we tackle the gritty realities facing the industry, including the transformation of office spaces in the post-pandemic era, the challenges of multifamily housing under rent stabilization, and the resilience of certain property types amidst market fluctuations. As we gaze into the crystal ball of the real estate and finance markets for 2024, discover why Trixie predicts a ripe environment for multifamily and single-family investments, and why Lena expects a surge in private debt volumes. Finally, we tie it all together with our own stories of juggling the demands of leadership and living, as we share strategies that keep us grounded and effective in both spheres. From the boardroom to the family room, the balance isn't just a goal - it's a nuanced dance of self-love, support networks, and the realization that being a superhuman isn't the end game. Inc. prepares to celebrate their legacy at the eagerly anticipated, upcoming 25th Anniversary celebration, Havana Nights Under the Stars, Dinner in the Garden on Saturday, March 9, 2024 - of which First Lien Capital is honored to be the signature sponsor of this prestigious event - we're reminded of the collective effort required to nurture such vital programs that serve as cornerstones for young lives in transition. The innovative collaboration between First Lien Capital and H.O.M.E.S. Today I am interviewing Linda Taylor who is the Managing Director of The Employees Relations Consultancy. Today's episode is part of the series on "HR challenges faced by SME's", where I will be interviewing HR experts on key topics to help SME organisations. We discussed discrimination in the workplace, and we focused on the behaviour of banter and telling inappropriate jokes, and how do you deal with this. Linda's general rule with banter is that are both parties happy with the exchange that is happening, if they then that should be ok but we have to mindful of others observing. And also anything that is covered in the equality act like race, gender and disability is off limits. Linda gave us three key points to helping deal with discrimination, firstly as a leader or owner of a business get educated on discrimination, be familiar with the equality act. Secondly, role model in the workplace, if you are in a situation of inappropriate banter then don't join in and deal with the individual either then or later. Thirdly, if someone does complain, do take it seriously. Is it possible that Linda Taylor perpetrated one of the most infamous child abductions in American history? In this excerpt from the first bonus episode of The Queen, Josh Levin talks to Paul Joseph Fronczak about how Taylor could be connected to the April 1964 kidnapping of a 1-day-old boy born to Paul's parents, Dora and Chester Fronczak. They also discuss Paul's search for his true identity. This episode is member-exclusive. Listen to it now by subscribing to Slate Plus. Linda Taylor had a tendency to emerge from out of nowhere, upend everything in her path, then vanish without leaving a forwarding address. The final episode of The Queen focuses on two different stories about the lives Taylor changed. In one case, she helped a vulnerable family escape the degradations of the Jim Crow South. In the other, she kidnapped a child and may have been responsible for her own husband's death. This podcast is based on Josh Levin's book, The Queen: The Forgotten Life Behind an American Myth. A decade before she became known as the “welfare queen,” Linda Taylor put herself at the center of a different Chicago scandal. Upon the death of gambling kingpin Lawrence Wakefield, Taylor posed as the heir to his sizable fortune. The ensuing court proceeding was full of lies and surprise witnesses. That heirship hearing would ultimately reveal Taylor's real identity and offer a window into her troubled past. In the 1970s, a pair of very different men fought to define Linda Taylor's image. For presidential candidate Ronald Reagan, Taylor epitomized the brokenness of the federal bureaucracy and the broader trend of poor people getting rich off the public dime. Taylor's defense lawyer, the civil rights attorney R. Eugene Pincham, believed she was a scapegoat, and that her actions were crimes of survival. Linda Taylor became the “welfare queen” in 1974 when the Chicago Tribune publicized her outrageous exploits. The reporter who introduced her to the world was a Pulitzer Prize winner named George Bliss.
