Chris Buru , a local DJ and producer joins us today to talk about about the intricacies of the music industry, particularly focusing on EDM. They explore the importance of art beyond politics, the realities of being a DJ, the significance of preparation, and the challenges of receiving feedback as an artist (6:00). Chris shares his passion for music and the emotional impact it has on both him and his audience, emphasizing the energy exchange that occurs during live performances. We discusses the nightlife and EDM culture, focusing on the interplay between substance use and the emotional experiences tied to music (40:00). We reflect on our personal journey with drugs, the impact of addiction on creativity, and the importance of genuine connections in the service industry (1:03:00). The discussion also touches on the wastefulness of the restaurant industry and the superficiality of relationships formed in nightlife settings, ultimately advocating for a more mindful approach to both substance use and personal connections. We get into the transformative power of shifting from a negative to a positive mindset, the rewarding nature of human connections in the service industry, and the complexities of navigating relationships and trust issues. We wrap up with the importance of self-discovery and the value of finding deeper meaning beyond temporary excitement (1:35:00). Enjoy. Love y'all.Twitter @awake_smyth

Teedee is our very special guest this week! His rise to success may seem quick, but he started planning this journey at just age 16 when he was DJing at his local town in Sheffield, UK. After getting a few gigs here and there, as well as learning how to produce hip-hop beats, he decided to use his personality on social media to kick-start his career beyond the resident club scene. After a single viral video, he had major labels wanting to work with him and has continued to build a huge global audience, which is now over 400k followers across platforms. In 2022, he teamed up with Bugzy Malone for the track 'Out of Nowhere,' which went on to be an official UK Top 10 and has surpassed 50 million streams on Spotify alone. He has a major record deal and is due to release music in 2024 with some of the biggest house producers in the world. He has launched his own label as well as an events company. Former Philadelphia Eagle & veteran broadcaster Garry “G” Cobb (gcobb.com) offers insight on the Rams-Saints and Patriots-Chiefs playoff games from yesterday (including his experience with regard to moving forward despite disappointments and hurdles in his life). G also shares thoughts on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, G’s life growing up in North Carolina (and as his family moved north to Connecticut), and what we can do to help bring about a culture that promotes loving your neighbor. Local DJ & drummer John Kelley calls in to share his testimony, having grown up with a church/Christian school background most of his life yet not fully moving forward with the Lord and battling alcohol along the way. Following a DUI, John realized his need for the Lord in 2011 much more clearly. John has been walking with Him more fully since, with the Lord moving him over time to share God’s love with people in the city who are struggling with homelessness, drug addiction, and more by providing food bags with Scripture inside, blankets, and other items. John has no website or non-profit status; he is simply an unsung hero working to bring blessing to the streets of Philadelphia.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
