Hello passionate cruisers, this is Paul. And this is Cheryl. This week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast we want to briefly share our reflections about our most recent cruise. This one was a short R&B music cruise to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Pearl. The cruise starred R&B superstar Maxwell and was called the “Urban Hang Suite Cruise.” Urban Hang Suite is the name of Maxwell's iconic first album. This was not part of a series of cruises—it was the first Maxwell Urban Hang Suite Cruise but I am confident it will not be the last. Maxwell is a global R&B superstar who takes his time releasing new music. The cruise was named after his first album which was released almost 30 years ago, indicative of the staying power of his brand, and his fans are every bit as fervent. Other headliners were Ledisi, Robert Glasper, Sabrina Claudio, Leela James, Musiq Soulchild, Gallant, and comedian A-Train. Support the show

In this episode, we're joined by two incredible guests. The first is DUCKWRTH, a phenomenal singer/songwriter and all around creative. Our second guest is a much needed cameo by our mutual friend and extremely talented photographer/director Mancy Gant. It's a funny story, but I actually met DUCKWRTH while in line at a juice bar - less than 24 hours before recording this episode. Mancy and I, on the other hand, have been friends for many years, and I knew they had collaborated on a few album covers and projects in the past. But - it wasn't until I saw their handshake that I realized just how close they were. We explore a ton of topics, like DUCKWRTH touring with Billie Eilish and announcing his Chrome Bull World Tour, and fun stories like escaping a high school fight by way of his mother's "prayer team". While Mancy joins us a bit later after capturing a few photos, it's great to hear him reflect on turning 30 during the lockdown, share some gems from his favorite reads, and lovingly fact-check DUCKWRTH throughout the entire conversation. We hope you enjoy this episode of Culture Study. If you do, please share it with one other person who would enjoy it as well. You can also tag us on Instagram when you tune in @culturestudy. Debra has lived an incredibly full and inspiring life with no plan of stopping anytime soon. From moving to Europe, dropping out of school, marrying an Italian prince and hitchhiking across Africa all by the time she was sixteen, Debra has always embraced the unknown and said “yes” to all of what life has thrown at her. This episode I'm getting into Sabrina Claudio's song, "Problem With You", from her 2019 album Truth is. It's all about the struggles of an over thinker with an anxious attachment dealing with a partner that doesn't take any accountability about the way their behavior is damaging the relationship and the way they feel. Part of the problem of course can be the nitpicking and constant over-analyzing, but dealing with someone that leaves you hanging and puts you in a position to constantly fill in the blanks, is only gonna make the situation worse. I also talk about JT, lil uzi vert, and the long lost thirsty tweet that caused her to break up with him. I get into the Muni Long and Drake situation and how some dudes project so hard and should just admit they're cheaters, or that they wanna f*** Drake. I also touch on day and night difference between the way Kanye stans react to him going to an island to destress, versus Kim having 10 minutes to herself and how moms in general are not allowed to ever have an identity outside of being a mother. I also give a quick opinion on the smear campaign against the Smith's, specifically Jada Pinkett Smith. Lastly I answer a question someone asked me on what I think about dating a guy with a baby on the way. I use a tik tok that showcases how toxic some babydads are to back up my stance, and why it's ok to simply avoid specific situations that you want no part in.
