1946 US animated Disney film

Today we are packaging up an episode featuring a series of Disney's later films of the 1940s known as the “package features”: Make Mine Music (1946), Fun and Fancy Free (1947), Melody Time (1948), and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949). Hear exclusive clips from Walt about how the package features came to be and insights on some of the most notable segments.
Have you taken time to see some animated features on Disney+ that go way back into Walt Disney's own vault. During the 1940s you will find Disney animated features like Melody Time, Saludos Amigos, and Make Mine Music. These were known as package films, similar to Fantasia, but with far less attention to detail. They compose the War Era, which was during World War II and its aftermath. This era was between the Golden age of Disney which included Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and the Silver Age which started with Cinderella. Fun & Fancy Free is one of those anthology films of the War Era, and is the title of a chapter that describes how Walt and his brother Roy got through a period that was actually anything but fun and fancy free. It's just one chapter in my book, A Century of Powerful Disney Insights, and it has implications in many ways to Disney's own challenges today. Join us for anything but Fun and Fancy Free. __________________________________________________________ My new book, A Century of Powerful Disney Insights is available! Now available on Amazon! Brad and Jake tackle, but Brad hasn't seen any movies from 1943, so he recommends the acclaimed The Life & Times of Colonel Blimp. This unconventional epic spanning the Second Boer War and both World Wars was helmed by the Archers (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger), and starred Roger Livesey, Anton Walbrook, and Deborah Kerr in knockout performances. Jake, with little in his 1943 arsenal, asked Brad to watch Disney's Saludos Amigos. But since it's more of a tourism ad than it is a movie, Brad took the opportunity to rank all 61 Disney Animated Features released at the time of this recording, from Snow White to Strange World. Other movies mentioned in this episode: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942), The Three Caballeros (1944), Make Mine Music (1946), Fun and Fancy Free (1947), Melody Time (1948), The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949), Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953), Lady and the Tramp (1955), Sleeping Beauty (1959), One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), The Sword in the Stone (1963), The Jungle Book (1967), The Aristocats (1970), Robin Hood (1973), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977), The Rescuers (1977), The Fox and the Hound (1981), The Secret of NIMH (1982), The Black Cauldron (1985), The Great Mouse Detective (1986), Oliver & Company (1988), All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989), The Little Mermaid (1989), The Rescuers Down Under (1990), Rock-a-doodle (1991), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), Mulan (1998), Tarzan (1999), Fantasia 2000 (1999), Dinosaur (2000), The Emperor's New Groove (2000), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), Lilo & Stitch (2002), Treasure Planet (2002), Brother Bear (2003),Home on the Range (2004), Chicken Little (2005), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Bolt (2008), The Princess and the Frog (2009), Tangled (2010), Winnie the Pooh (2011), Wreck it Ralph (2012), Frozen (2013), Big Hero Six (2014), Zootopia (2016), Moana (2016), Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), Frozen II (2019), Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), Encanto (2021), Strange World (2022)

In this week's episode, hosts Ashley and Jason take a trip back in time to discuss the 1946 Disney classic, Make Mine Music. Made during the height of World War II, this package film was quickly put together to keep the studio afloat. What segments will our hosts love and which one will that loath? In today's episode, our hosts, Tracey and Scott revisit a popular segment: Make Mine Music. This time around, they're presenting a countdown of their ten favorite more serious songs from Disney films of the 1990s. Along the way they'll call over to the Main Street Cinema and wrap up the show with some Indiana Comic-Con and Marvel news. Welcome to Disney, Indiana.
In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia and special guest Chris "RowdyC" Moore discuss about the animated Disney films from 1943 to 1949 consisting of Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time, and Ichabod and Mr. Toad in honor of Saludos Amigos' 80th anniversary. These slew of films are known as The Wartime Era since they came out during World War II when the European market was very low. In addition, the Walt Disney Animation Studio was going through a strike to unionize their workers with better pay and benefits. Many Disney fans consider this era one of, if not, the worst of the Disney eras. What did Patricia and Chris think of the films? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support
Sit down for a spell with the Wilsons and listen as they discuss Walt Disney's 8th feature length animated film 'Make Mine Music'. These four siblings walk through the ten short segments of the film and break down everything from a love-struck fedora to an opera-singing whale. You might even say that it's a "whale" of a time!
Come along on another symphonic journey as we tackle our last package film in Make Mine Music! Fair warning - this one isn't on Disney+, so you may not be able to watch it before listening. Don't miss: The short that really serves as the blueprint for discussing character development in music How jazz ties all of these shorts together, even with all its wide-varying subjects A discussion of the oddities that litter this film, including changed score segments, one anthropomorphic animal in an otherwise normal world, and a short that was cut entirely Our final score, cementing the package era as the overall lowest in the canon PLUS, we talk through all the thoughts our audience had when they watched the movie, including several members of our community on Twitter! Musical legends, creepy puppets, and more swearing than usual dominate the discussion as Christian and his companions cover the middle two (of six )1940s Disney package films. First, he and Emma measure the merits and minuses of Make Mine Music, the only entry in the Disney animated canon not on yet on Disney Plus. Then, Ian comes back to facilitate facing Fun and Fancy Free, which also marks the return of both Mickey Mouse and Jiminy Cricket.
In this episode, Tory and Grace continue with their “Brackets of the Ages” series and discuss Disney's Eras of Animation. In today's episode, our hosts, Scott and Tracey, bring back one of the more popular segments as they play Make Mine Music by counting down their favorite songs from the Disney Legends Richard and Robert Sherman. The duo is better known as the Sherman Brothers. Over their career at Disney, they received four Academy Award nominations and a Grammy award and wrote over 200 songs for 27 movies and two dozen TV productions. They also contributed music for several theme park attractions at Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Epcot. With that large amount of output, our hosts will have a difficult time narrowing it down to their top five favorites. All this plus a call to the Main Street Cinema to check in on the Mortis and a look at some upcoming Disney related events they might attend. Welcome to Disney, Indiana!

Alex and Harrison’s sanity is tested as they discuss the four Package films, a task so stressful the episode had to be split in two in order to be manageable. This episode focuses on Make Mine Music and Fun and Fancy Free. That being said, all of Alex’s research ends up in this episode, as she explains the financial realities and production wrinkles that surrounded the creation of these package anthologies. Our hosts dig into the class depictions across Make Mine Music before digging into the individual shorts. Harrison is befuddled by the lasting appeal of Casey at the Bat, while Alex takes the chance to examine the short’s depictions of masculinity and gender. Harrison really digs into the way his capitalist-centric reading of Dumbo carries forward into the Bongo short and how heteronormativity is tied up in American capitalism, Harrison doesn’t know where peas come from, hates how big food is, and changes his mind. On this episode of Whose Filmography is it Anyway? Josh and Steven continue their deep dive into the Disney Animated Studios with Make Mine Music (1946) and Fun and Fancy Free (1947). While by name neither one of these films is well known by the average audience, the scenes of these films is nonetheless iconic. Subconsciously, or through GIFS or Instagram, knows the sequences of Mickey Mouse slicing bread so thin you can see right through it; or have used the words "Fe Fi Fo Fum." So join the discussion on the movies you didn't know you knew.
Abigail, Chris and Eli discuss Make Mine Music (1946) and Fun and Fancy Free (1947) divulging their varied responses to the 12 different shorts. They discuss the depiction of abusive relationships, animal rights, and the censored short that they had to dig to find... Plus WHO the heck is Candice Bergen?
In this episode... Listen as Jacqui and Courtney both watch Make Mine Music. Make Mine Music isn't actually on Disney+ so Courtney found the videos on Youtube. Listen as we discuss how Casey is the prototype Gaston and how much we love All the Cats Join In
On the seventh installment of the Pop Goes The Classics series looking at the Disney animated features, Andy Atherton, Mirandia Berthold & Steve Riddle look at 1946’s Make Mine Music, 1947’s Fun And Fancy Free, 1948’s Melody Time & 1949’s The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad. They discuss the many aspects of the films including: the shorts that comprise each of them; the fun characters we meet in each; the music pieces used; the snapshots of life in the late 1940’s provided by them; and the legacies of the shorts as not only standalone but as part of these anthology films.
Quick catch up. MAKE MINE MUSIC. Tonight is Aladdin.
