A Trip to Manitoba
June 12, 1962. Worthington, Minnesota. 20-year old Marlys Gross gives birth to a baby daughter named Mary Agnes, but is told by the hospital staff that the child died shortly after she was born. Mary Agnes is given a funeral and buried in a grave, but months later, Marlys is mailed a photograph of an unidentified family holding a baby whom she believes is her daughter. Over the next three decades, Marlys would discover a number of suspicious discrepancies to make her believe that Mary Agnes is still alive, so she petitions to have her gravesite exhumed in 1996. While skeletal remains of a deceased child are found, DNA testing reveals that they do not belong to Mary Agnes. Did the hospital orchestrate a cover-up in order to perform a black-market adoption and sell Mary Agnes to another family? If so, then whose remains were buried in Mary Agnes' grave? This week's episode of “The Trail Path Went Chilly” explores a very bizarre and complicated mystery about the disappearance of a newborn infant.Support the show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyPatreon.com/thetrailwentcoldAdditional Reading:https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Mary_Agnes_Grosshttps://www.newspapers.com/image/240234019/?terms=%22Mary%2BAgnes%2BGross%22https://www.newspapers.com/image/454862991/?terms=%22Mary%2BAgnes%2BGross%22https://www.newspapers.com/image/240973566/?terms=%22Mary%2BAgnes%2BGross%22https://www.newspapers.com/image/240282173/?terms=%22Mary%2BAgnes%2BGross%22https://www.newspapers.com/image/336511442/?terms=%22Mary%2BAgnes%2BGross%22https://www.newspapers.com/image/336776572/?terms=%22Mary%2BAgnes%2BGross%22

In season two of the "Finding Home" podcast series, Irish American Archives Society Executive Director Margaret Lynch interviews an array of Clevelanders with specialized knowledge and stories about the history of the Irish in Cleveland. This episode features an interview with Mary Agnes Kennedy. As singer Mary Agnes Kennedy recalls, music and singing were a huge part of her growing up years. Her mother, Carole Anne Kennedy, played Irish music on a portable record player and made the family sit down for the Mike Comer radio hour. Music was everywhere--at family parties, school choirs and plays, television theme songs and jingles, even events on Fleet Avenue that a Polish neighbor organized. Kennedy reflects on the mentors and community influences that gave her confidence and staying power as a singer.
This week, we explore concrete and person to person ways of serving low income people and the homeless. Our guest is Mary Agnes Erlandson. She directs St. Margaret's Center, a program of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles. The Center provides help to about 10,000 unduplicated individuals annually. Over the past 34 years, people with multiple needs have come to the Center for food, shelter, legal, medical, employment, housing, and education services. Erlandson counts on teams of volunteers ranging from active seniors to college students, as well as her small and dedicated staff. We'll be asking the following questions. As always, feel free to add your own.1. Mary Agnes, if we may, you are a native Angeleno. Could you tell us a bit about growing up here?2. You crossed paths with St. John Paul II during his visit to Ecuador in 1985. What memories do you have of that event?3. How did you come to be the director of St. Margaret Center? Could you manage the job without being bilingual?4. Over the past few decades in Los Angeles, you've witnessed so much—and now the Covid pandemic. What impact have these changes had on you and St. Margaret's?5. What factors have led the Center to offer everything from showers for the homeless to medical services, ESL classes, a food pantry, diaper distribution, utility bill relief, and many more?6. Let's talk money. How is St. Margaret's funded?7. Let's talk giving. How did this year's Christmas party go?8. Your work depends on volunteers. Where do they come from and what do they do?9. If you could have a heart to heart conversation with our current crop of political leaders, what would you tell them?10. The best exegesis shows that retirement is not a Biblical concept. So where do you see yourself ten years from now?

1930 Mary Agnes Moroney, just two years old in 1930. was the daughter of Catherine and Michael Moroney. The family lived in Chicago IL and like many families of the era, were having a hard time getting by during the Great Depression. With life being tough, Michael decided to put out an ad in the paper looking for any help the family could get with regards to materials / volunteers who could help them. Enter Julia Otis, a caregiver who offered to assist with Mary and provide the family with groceries. Unfortunately for the Moroney family, Julia Otis was not what she seemed and the next day Mary was gone and all that was left behind was a note stating that the two had gone to California and that they would be back in two months. Scary enough as this was, it was a second letter the family recieved that truly chilled their bones. It was penned by Julia Otis cousin, and it stated… Don't leave your child with Julia Check out our socials for more updates! May 15, 1930. Chicago, Illinois. After a newspaper ad seeks assistance for the poverty-stricken family of two-year old Mary Agnes Moroney, a woman calling herself Julia Otis shows up at their home to help. She offers to take Mary Agnes shopping to buy her new clothes, but they never return. 22 years later, a woman named Mary McClelland comes forward after suspecting she might be Mary Agnes and experts conclude that she is probably the missing child. However, after Mary McClelland passes away in 2005, DNA testing shows no genetic connection between her and the Moroney family. So what happened to the real Mary Agnes Moroney? This week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold” features the oldest cold case we’ve ever covered, which has gone from solved to unsolved again over the course of several decades.
