Summary of "Fork in Your Ear" Podcast Episode (Tim & Nate) This episode dives into fall vibes amid aging pains (creaky bones, coffee slurps) and tech woes, with Tim and Nate riffing on updates, laughs, and hype. Runtime ~3 hours of unfiltered chaos—editing hell for Nate. Life Updates Aches & Updates: Tim's iOS 26.0.1 update bricked his iPhone (boot loop, wiped/restored), Mac (crashy shutdowns), and dad's iPad (security patch fail)—"Windows-level disaster." Nate dodges it. Both gripe about body breakdowns (Tim: rib pain post-PT; Nate: car door twinge). Matchmaking Magic: Tim's playing Cupid for friend Robert (Xbox gamer) and Jessica's pal Winter (PC gamer)—siloed texts, Discord voice chats, Destiny 2 setup woes (Bungie name linking). High-fives with Jessica; they're vibing over Arizona iced tea. Tentative game night/Diablo 4 co-op; hopes for "rabbits" (post-rant: wholesome joy). Misc: Tim's niece's 2nd bday (Bluey gift hunt); haunted house tours delayed (friend in Turkey). Nate: Bengals tanking NFL season ("lost cause"); Dodgers playoffs competitive. Tron: Ares tickets (Oct 8; 3D laser IMAX; avoiding spoilers/merch glow-up). Entertainment Food Fight: KFC's "11 herbs/spices" spilled by a descendant (sage, cloves, etc., plus MSG in batter)—Tim sneezes mid-read. TV/Binge: Tim digs Chad Powers (Hulu comedy: Glen Powell as disgraced QB in Mrs. Doubtfire disguise; showboating fumble premise—real NFL bloopers nod). Nate pans Naked Gun reboot (PG-13 gags miss R-rated edge; 2-hour regret). Simpsons Movie 2 (2027; Tim hopes for finale/OG writers like Conan). Bond Brouhaha: Amazon edits gun-free James Bond box art (e.g., Brosnan Photoshop)—hypocritical with gun-logo/merch (e.g., GoldenEye collector's gun). Conspiracy: Search filter prep? Tim rants: Spy franchise sans guns = absurd. Tech Foldable Fever: Rumors of iPhone Fold (two Airs hinged; magnets likely). Nate gushes Z Fold 7 (thinner 215g/8" screen; 2,600 nits; Snapdragon 8 Elite ~40% faster; crease minimal—but wobbly camera bump gripes). Specs: 12GB RAM, 200MP cam; Minecraft hitches (update?). AI & Gadgets: Runway Gen-3 video AI (8-sec clips; ethics rage—Tim: tool for originals, not deepfakes like "Tilly Norwood" Comic-Con stunt). Coast USB-C rechargeables ($25/8-pack; testing in toothbrush/trimmer/Xbox controller—clever case). OS Hell: iOS 26 unification mixed (Watch/iPad laggy; TV fonts tiny). Free Xbox Cloud w/ads rumored (pre/mid/post-rolls? Tim fears retro-ad hell in raids). Video Games Game Pass Glow-Up (or Down): Tiers revamp Nov 4 (Essential $10: 50+ games/cross-play; Premium $15: 200+; Ultimate $30: 400+/day-one Ubisoft/EA/Fortnite—up $10). CoD excluded 2025 ($300M loss last year); no PC-only. Tim: Value for heavy users; Nate: Bait-switch fatigue. Free ad-tier Cloud incoming? Tim's Plays: Lego Voyagers (co-op puzzle; visual storytelling, 3-5hr cute vibes). Hollow Knight (30hr in: slow/janky start—5-8hr slog; soul mechanic shines; 7-8/10; Newgrounds art/jank from 2 devs). Jump Ship ($20 early access: Sea of Thieves/Helldivers space co-op; Zero-G repairs, grid Tetris, Star Fox branching—co-op chaos gold; single-player robot helper). Nate's Dips: Shapes (idle factory builder: shape-mining puzzles, web/Steam sync). Hollow Knight/Silksong (not his jam—zero onboarding). News/Hype: PS State of Play (Ascendant: Returnal roguelike; Wolverine: R-rated leaks confirmed, March '26—Hugh Jackman-esque actor; nuanced vs. Steve Blum growl debate). EA $55B buyout (Saudi royals/Kushner; fears for BioWare/Mass Effect, LGBTQ Apex retcons). Star Seeker Direct Oct 7. Cobra: The Awakening (Switch GI Joe cartoon vibe). GameStop PSA slab trade-in ($5K for Switch/Pokémon—WA weirdos). Wraps on Tron: Ares unspoiled joy (NIN Anaheim March; Disney ad dodges), with Tim's matchmaking glow and Nate's editing dread. Forked vibes: Pain, hype, and "fuck you" laughs. Next: Tron reactions? This Episode is part of the "XR in Space" Series. There was one moment in Felix' keynote, where everybody was thinking the same: How can I get this insanely detailed model of the ISS onto my headset? No wonder that this was the first question asked after the keynote. And funnily enough it was even the question of co-host Thomas Bedenk, when Felix talks about the ISS model in this episode. The Keynote was hold at the Space CHI 4.0 Conference (→) back in June 23-24 at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne. Our recording takes place a month later. Felix Gorbatsevich is the CEO and co-founder of the Norwegian company Pale Blue, which is specialized in simulation and training simulators for various industries, including human spaceflight and subsea operations. In this episode we are particularely discussing how they were involved in a couple of experiments involving parabolic flights. Felix explains how they used them to find out how XR headsets can work in zero gravity and micro gravity as well as scanning how astronauts actually move in Zero G on a space spation. These information were than used to make training on their virtual reality model of the ISS even more realistic. Pale Blue is particularly known for its highly detailed digital twin of the International Space Station (ISS), which models the station down to individual screws and stickers for realistic astronaut training. This simulator is crucial for helping astronauts become resilient to zero-gravity sickness by creating a disconnect between visual and physical sensation. Pale Blue also applies its simulation technology to validate new spacecraft designs, such as the Luna Gateway, and participates in the SpaceXR Consortium to develop robust XR solutions for actual space missions, including intra-vehicular (IVA) and extra-vehicular (EVA) activities. At the end of the episode Felix is asked to articulate his expert opinion about the XR industry, with over 10 years of experience. And how he thinks how XR and the space industry is connected.

Balance is a common challenge among people with Parkinson's disease and it can be made even more challenging when there is both a risk of falls AND a high fear of falling. What's a clinician to do to improve overall balance when your patient is too fearful to try so many things? On today's show Erin Gallardo, PT, DPT, NCS discusses exactly that predicament with physical therapists Sharanya Chavva, PT, DPT and Jennifer Lazaro, PT, DPT, NCS who share the findings of their poster from APTA CSM 2025. Their poster, which outlines a case study of a PwP, won the APTA Balance and Falls SIG first place award. Their research focuses on a unique approach to balance interventions that incorporates high intensity focused training on one aspect of balance - Anticipatory Postural Adjustments (APAs) - that demonstrates transference to other balance outcomes. Key Highlights: - The study centered on a patient in the early stages of Parkinson's disease who had significant anxiety about falling - Traditional balance training methods weren't effectively improving her confidence - They introduced a novel approach using a specific anticipatory postural adjustment (APA) training protocol - A Zero G harness system was utilized to help the patient feel more secure during exercises Remarkable Results: - Patient's balance confidence (ABC score) increased from 73% to 80% - BESTest score improved dramatically from 62% to 83% - Patient began engaging more in daily activities like grocery shopping - Achieved high-intensity training with up to 160 repetitions per exercise This case study demonstrates that targeted, high-intensity balance training can significantly improve patient confidence and functional mobility. By focusing on anticipatory movements and creating a safe training environment, therapists can help PwP overcome their fear and improve their quality of life. Check out the poster here

With zero prior flight experience but a deep love for space (and Star Trek), Matt Gohd took the helm of Zero G during a pivotal moment and helped guide the company into a new era—one marked by resilience, accessibility, and unforgettable experiences that allow everyday people to float like astronauts. In this episode, Beth and Matt explore the incredible evolution of Zero G—from its bold beginnings inspired by Peter Diamandis to flying 22,000+ people, including Stephen Hawking and Apollo astronaut Charlie Duke. Matt shares what it took to revive the company after near shutdown, launch flights during a global pandemic, and expand access to space-like experiences for everyone—especially through impactful initiatives like AstroAccess, which brings disabled individuals aboard to test space accessibility solutions. Listeners will love the behind-the-scenes stories of lunar pushups, parabolic protocols, and even the “best nap of your life” after your flight. About Matt Gohd: Matt is the Chairman of Zero Gravity Corporation (ZERO-G), the only commercial provider of weightless flight experiences in the U.S. With a background in finance and a passion for turning bold visions into reality, Matt stepped in during a critical time to relaunch the company and bring spaceflight simulation to the masses. Since then, he's been instrumental in growing Zero G's impact, forging partnerships, expanding operations across the country, and championing inclusion in space. Zero G now operates in cities like Houston, San Jose, New York, and even from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, offering public flights, corporate experiences, and research missions for institutions prepping for lunar missions. In the time since we recorded the interview, they've come out with a new album, and with several new music videos, including for the track Love, shot with no cuts…just “mirrors, robotics, and a whole lot of planning.” Enjoy! *** Not many bands hire Russian pilots to film a Zero-G video on their cosmonaut training plane, known as the “vomit comet”. But those are the kinds of extremes that OK Go will go to in the pursuit of creativity. Tim Nordwind and Damian Kulash, the band's founders, met at camp as pre-teens in search of a fellow creative nerd, and founded the band in 1998. Over the past 25 years, they've created 3 Grammy-nominated music videos, and won Best Music Video for Here It Goes Again. From the perfectly timed explosions filmed in slow-motion for their song The One Moment, to the immensely elaborate Rube Goldberg contraption they created for This Too Shall Pass, OK Go is almost like a performance-art troupe that just happens to be a fantastic rock band. In this episode on the creative process, we talk to Tim and Damian about how they come up with ideas, the macro and micro elements of their creativity, and achieving the impossible. *** Premium Episodes on Design Better This ad-supported episode is available to everyone. Starship performs their 6th Test Flight a month after their 5th - and it was.....BANANAS! That's right we are breaking down IFT6, with our (almost) LIVE reaction to the launch! We started recording during Starship's Reentry, so you catch our reaction live to that. It was a great day for data! The Starship team's have pulled off the practically impossible and soft landed both the Super Heavy Booster & Starship. We're not quite sure what survived, but that's space development! The world's most powerful rocket took another big step forward - expect more of these launches soon! We also share our thoughts on the Space Economy, Lowering the cost to Access Space, Space Progress, and Heat Tile Protection required for the insanity of atmospheric reentry for spacecraft with human crew. We'd love to hear about your reaction to Starship IFT6 - email us at todayinspacepodcast@gmail.com or DM us on social media! Otter.AI's Summary of the episode: "The Starship IFT6 test flight successfully lifted off at 5 PM Central Time, with all 33 Raptor engines functioning. The booster performed a boost-back burn and landed offshore due to a tower issue. The starship, carrying a zero-G banana and a Starlink Pez dispenser, re-entered at 26,700 km/h, testing aggressive angles of attack. Despite some flap charring, the landing was soft. The flight marked SpaceX's second successful full lift-off and booster recovery. The test underscored the importance of rapid iteration and data gathering for future human spaceflight missions, including the Artemis III moon landing and potential Mars missions by 2026." Topics: Starship IFT6, test flight, Zero G banana, Artemis mission, space economy, reusability, Starlink satellites, hurricane relief, booster recovery, hot stage separation, aggressive reentry, heat distribution, plasma buildup, soft landing, SpaceX achievements Sources: Full Starship IFT6 launch https://x.com/SpaceX/status/1857841326542434339 Starship Reentry-Landing clip https://x.com/SpaceX/status/1859010302819684368 Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction 00:35 Starship IFT6 Test Flight Overview 02:07 Space Economy and Reusability 04:23 Test Flight Breakdown and Success 06:10 Challenges and Future Plans 10:45 Re-Entry and Thermodynamics 14:33 Final Approach and Landing -------------------------- Here's to building a fantastic future - and continued progress in Space (and humanity)! Two different strategies, two different values, two different perspectives. The Zero-G phenomenon in Fantasy Hockey has gotten a lot of legs the past few years, and I have had some questions about potential gaps in the armor. I have invited the Blacksmith himself to come in and show me around the forge. https://twitter.com/ApplesGinos, the originator of the Zero-G Draft strategy joins the show today to parry my dissent. There are an infinite avenues to get to the championship, bringing two different perspectives together is one way to learn about different strategies and schools of thought. On a strategy as impactful as this, we needed to bring in the ringer to get to the bottom of certain aspects. Enjoy!
