He's a dynamic producer in the electronic space that has evolved over the years from the SoundCloud beats world, to nationwide EDM festivals and tours, to, most recently, the release of his album “Always In A Hurry” which feels like his maturation as an artist on full display. With no shortage of knowledge or wit, Medasin tells us why being bald is the best, why he departed from the typical EDM producer career route, the paralysis of choice in the industry, the impact that Splice has had on the creation of music, why the 70's was the best era for music and why we are still trying to replicate it, and the full story of his IG being hijacked by the infamous Ahmet Taslar (1:08:09). Originally born in Jamaica, and relocating to Virginia USA at the age of 8, Masego is a multi-talented solo artist, saxophonist and music producer who has coined his own genre, "Trap-House-Jazz".Masego is the stage name of "Micah Davis" who, by all accounts, grew up in a traditional and religious household. He was however surrounded by music growing up. At home his bedroom was also the place where his parents kept their large collection of vinyl records which included everything from Stevie Wonder to Cab Calloway. At Church, Masego was exposed to Gospel music and declared drums as the first instrument he gravitated to.As a teenager, via his friends in high-school, Masego would be exposed to Hip Hop music for the first time, and became a fan of artists such as Andre 3000. Despite being just four months old, the label has already achieved so much, including securing their latest release, The Pink Polo EP, a collaboration between sax-machine Masego and heavy hitting producer Medasin, for a premiere via Billboard. With a talented roster of almost twenty acts, each with their own following before the label existed, it's no wonder that bringing them all together under one house has resulted in a surge of popularity and recognition for both the artists and the label itself. I recently spoke with BNJMN (@kingbnjmn), MadBliss / Dan (@escents) and Medasin / Grant (@officialmedasin) about the label's origins along with their personal musical backgrounds, achievements and more.
