Ahead of their first UK were joined by Malaysian extreme band Black Fire.

BatMarch continues as we cover the 1988 DC comic Batman: The Cult by Jim Starlin & art by Bernie Wrightson. The story follows “Batman's struggle against a messianic cult leader, Deacon Blackfire, who aims to control Gotham City. Blackfire recruits followers from the city's homeless, criminals, and dispossessed, and operates his cult from the sewers. Batman is captured, brainwashed, and even participates in a killing before Robin rescues him.”But first Anthony completes his metamorphosis into going full Weezer with new glasses.  Cody's vision, among other things, is questionable. Jake's vision remains superior.  The boys talk the latest DC film news.  Cody's ranking has infected the podcast.  Anthony has Jack Quaid energy.  LOTR over Harry Potter every day.  This comic has one of the best Batman villains: Deacon Blackfire. Cody's not keen on Jim Starlin's Batman/Bruce Wayne. There are actual stakes in this story with Batman being captured, drugged, and tortured. Cody's son is Jason Todd.  We love to see Batman trip balls. This story may or may not be anti-transients. The Dark Knight Rises borrows tremendously from The Cult. This is one of the darkest Batman comics with pimps, hookers, and even Batman just letting a woman get killed in the streets. The art perfectly depicts Batman & Gotham with horror elements and imagery that reflects Batman's mental state throughout the story. Deacon Blackfire does things that some of Batman's main rogue gallery has never accomplished.  Do we reveal what we'll do for BatMarch 2026? Is this the only use of Deacon Blackfire in Batman comics? It's been too long since we brought up Stephen Lang but he comes back for some stellar casting this episode. The Seattle Black Fire Fighters Association has achieved a significant legal victory in their ongoing effort to retain a historic property in Seattle's Central Area. A King County Superior Court judge determined that the executive board's sale of the property contravened a prior court order, holding the defendants in contempt and imposing financial penalties. The final decision on whether to annul the sale will be made later this month, representing a critical step in the endeavor to maintain the landmark within the Black firefighters' community who established its legacy.

The historic property owned by the Seattle Black Fire Fighters Association has long stood as a symbol of heritage and community in Seattle's Central Area. Recently, the sale of this property has incited outrage among retired members and community leaders, who argue it was sold improperly and without proper consent. The legal battle over the property persists, with delays in court decisions exacerbating the frustration of those striving to retain it as an asset of the Seattle Black Fire Fighters Association. Clarence Williams, retired firefighter and former SBFFA President, and attorney Yohannes Sium are addressing this issue on the Seattle Medium's Rhythm & News podcast.

Tonight's Jazz Feature will be heard a bit later than usual as a guest was expected. The Jazz Feature will be pianist Andrew Hill's Blue Note debut album "Black Fire". Andrew Hill was somewhat unfairly lumped into the "free form Jazz" category as his music was different from the norm and innovative and Hill did emerge in the 1960;s, a time of change for Jazz. However Hill's music while different and fresh was structured and defined by chord progressions. His compositions were unique and took odd turns and twists much like Thelonious Monk's tunes. Producer Alfred Lion new Hill's music wasn't for everyone but he believed in Hill's genius and talent much like he did of Monk a decade earlier. Lion was the first to record Monk and his music. Hill on piano is supported by some great musicians such as Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone delivering some of his most creative work here. Richard Davis on bass and the great Roy Haynes on drums who was a last minute replacement for Philly Joe Jones who was unable to make the date. I can't imagine any other drummer than Roy Haynes for this music. "Black Fire" is the beginning of a long list of important recordings by Andrew Hill for Blue Note. Diné ‘defender of the sacred, artist, activist, musician, author, land defender, Warrior,' Klee Benally Walks On or transitioned on the morning of December 31, 2023. He was 48 years old and from what the place of many houses in what is known as Flagstaff, AZ. He was from the Tódích'íi'nii (Bitter Water People clan and born for the Wandering People clan). Klee Benally was a long-time advocate in combating violent forms colonialism such as speaking out on ending Native American homelessness, combating systemic police violence, the clean up of thousands of abandon uranium mines as part of a much larger settler legacy of nuclear colonialism in which Native American nations have been and continue be on the front-lines including the Dine' or Navajo nation. He also tirelessly fought against all forms of Indigenous cultural appropriation, defending the San Francisco Peaks, actively involved with Indigenous Action (https://www.indigenousaction.org/), and supported Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island. He is a loving and caring person centered in defending the sacred and is the creator's gift to the many of us he touched. Today on American Indian Airwaves, we will hear selected songs tracks from the various musical projects he was involved with, helped create, and contributed over the years. Fred Cephas, the new fire chief of Gwinnett County, Georgia, recalls his doubts about whether firefighting was the right career for him after watching events unfold on September 11, 2001. Cephas, who had recently joined the fire department, said watching public safety personnel rush into the burning towers and realising that he was now part of that community was a shock. Despite his initial concerns, Cephas stayed the course and has spent the past 22 years serving the department, working in various areas, including strategic planning, operations, and as a licensed polygraphist. He became Gwinnett's first black fire chief on April 1, 2023, and intends to make the department employee-focused and community-centered. Plans for a proposed mixed-use development on the former Olympic tennis center site in Gwinnett County, Georgia, include a large warehouse grocery store, apartments, and several restaurants, one of which may be a Whataburger. The 31.1-acre development would also feature a multi-use path, a water feature, and several monument-style signs. County officials have recommended the plan for approval, and an informational meeting for residents will take place on April 13. The county is requesting the property be rezoned from commercial only to mixed-use residential zoning, with the final decision to be made by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners after review by the Planning Commission. Buford head baseball coach Stuart Chester achieved his 700th win milestone in the Battle For Bartow tournament against Etowah. Chester is the sixth high school baseball coach in Georgia to reach this accomplishment. Despite his achievement, he says it's just a number and focuses on the impact he has made on his players and the coaches he's worked with. Chester spent most of his career coaching at Cartersville before becoming Buford's head coach in 2018. He has enjoyed coaching at Buford and doesn't plan to retire soon. The milestone win was aided by a brilliant pitching performance from Damien Brown, who pitched a shutout and recorded 14 strikeouts. Today we sit down and chat with co-hosts Constantine and Magpie the grandest of trails, the most enchanting, the most...emotional, the Grand Enchantment Trail! We begin the show as we begin every show, with talking only and we mean only trail and hiking related content. That's right we discuss energy drinks! We get "Bucked Up" while drinking Bucked Up. Yes, that is not a euphuism, that is the actual name of the energy juice. As we crack the can we smell America, and guzzle some "Rocket Pop." After the most important part of the show we dive into all things the Grand Enchantment Trail. A wonderful route through Arizona and New Mexico that spans about ~766 miles. From just outside of Phoenix to Albuquerque the trail may begin and end in cities but goes into very remote territory. We discuss the "trail" conditions and the expectations when hiking a trail that is mostly a route. We discuss and thank the creator of this route, Brett Tucker for making such an amazing journey. We chat about everything that wants to cut you, stick you, bite you, scratch you, and generally "ouch" you. We try and break down the trail by resupply points and wonderfully get lost in memories. We chat the "town" that is not a town of Klondyke. We miss a fantastic opportunity to make a "what would you do for a Klondyke Bar" joke. We chat how not all miles are created equal. We chat about permits and being respectful to the trail so others can experience the beauty of this route in the future. We thank land owners, we talk about change in the route in the future, and we thank Brett again for all the work into creating a truly special, even enchanting, hike. We give a shout out to Rocketman and talk soaking in the Gila Hot Springs. We chat "Horse Women" and hot spring shaming. We chat wild turkeys and what to do if a wild turkey falls on your head. We chat cinematic turkey silhouettes. We then transition into the sad portion of the show as we talk wildfires. We discuss being some of the last people in Diamond Creek to see it in all its grandeur. We chat the Black Fire and Bear Fire and the feelings of being stopped when physically and mentally we were ready to go. We discuss monsoon season, continuing and connecting footsteps, wilderness, and what it means to be a "thru-hiker." We chat about our New Mexico Grandmother. We chat shortcuts that are not shortcuts. We wrap the show with our realization that we had a blistering average of 3 miles per day when factoring in all of our "technical zeroes" on this trail due to wildfire season. In the Gila National Forest, the Black Fire ignited on May 13—and has already grown into the state's third largest wildfire in history. Fire behavior analyst Arthur Gonzales, with the Southwest Incident Management Team #5 talks about the conditions fueling the giant fire. "I started this business in 1995, and I've seen a lot of large fires,” he tells correspondent Laura Paskus. “But it is surprising, Laura. It's surprising. And it should surprise everybody. These are unprecedented conditions.” Gonzales also talks about the fire's footprint, the varying levels of fire severity within the perimeter, and what people might expect to happen in the Gila this summer. And, a conversation about how we can learn to better manage forests to prevent major catastrophes like the Hermit's Peak Fire. Bob Harper is a renowned fitness expert, a New York Times bestselling author, and the creator of the Black Fire workout program. Best known for his role as the host of The Biggest Loser, Bob started his career working at the front desk of a fitness center in Tennessee. Good morning everyone. In today's very special episode, Lydia and I are chatting about her experience with the Hermits Peak / Calf Canyon fire, and she is telling her story of being evacuated. After that, Jennifer will be sharing some resources- either if you are in need or or can help with some resources. Just a quick update from the fire as of today: I pulled an article from the Santa Fe New Mexican, which will be linked is linked below, and wanted to share some of the highlights with you. This is the last update I was able to find, and the website is currently showing the last update was 5 hours ago. The fire was sitting at 303,342 acres (about 473 square miles), with 2200 firefighters on scene, and was 34% contained. There is also additional fires burning in other parts of the state- the Cerro Palado Fire near Los Almos is about 45,600 acres, and the Black Fire in Southern New Mexico is about 93,000 acres.
