Ivy Sole - "Don't Hide (feat. Kingsley Ibeneche)" a 2023 single on Ivy Sole LLC / Venice Music Candid, the latest album from Philly-based Pan-Africanist artist Ivy Sole, is presented as triptych, inspired by her parents' love story and how it shaped her own views on relationships. As she told Metal Magazine, "How the story unfolds in this album is not identical to how it transpired in the lives of my parents, or even in my life, but this much is true – Candid helped me love myself and love my family in ways I could never have imagined and confirmed that our enemy is not each other but the world we live in. How could I not talk about that when the world has only gotten more deadly for all of us?" Today's Song of the Day finds Sole reuniting with previous collaborator Kingsley Ibeneche, a singer/songwriter/dancer in his own right. Watch them perform in the music video below, directed by Sole and filmed by Wren Rene. Ivy Sole - "One More Night (feat. Topaz Jones)," a 2021 single on Les Fleurs Records. With her new single "One More Night", Philadelphia-based artist Ivy Sole teams up with Montclair, NJ-based rapper Topaz Jones for a soulful, R&B tinged exploration of romantic feelings. It's also the first listen to her just-announced full-length CANDID, which will be released February 2nd on Ivy's own Les Fleurs Music. "CANDID explores the many ways I find myself endeavouring towards truth and clarity, and 'One More Night' is no different. It's a song that speaks directly to the woman I had in mind, but still gives room for the listener's imagination,” Sole explained toStereofox. “The song itself came out of the essence of someone appearing in your mind without you actively deciding to invite them there, and the longing that ends up dictating how you act upon the memories, images and feelings that are brought out from that initial spark. Topaz and I produced it together, which makes it even more special to me..." Ivy Sole - "BITTERSWEET" from the 2020 album SOUTHPAW on Les Fleurs Records. Ivy Sole wasn't even sure she wanted to release a new album this year, but thankfully, she did, with her brand new release SOUTHPAW. "Me and my manager have been hesitant to release any music to distract or make light of what is happening, and this is prior to George Floyd and how that has changed the COVID era," she admitted toDJBooth.net. "To be honest, I was gonna drop an album this year and decided to hold off on that to sit with what is happening right now. I don’t want to 'lend' my voice to the movement. By virtue of being an abolitionist and endeavoring to be a radical thinker, anything that I would release was going to add to that conversation. With 'Bittersweet,' I wanted to release something that spoke directly to it rather than shying away from it." She adds, "I started writing it just on some, 'Damn, I miss the feeling of summer.' This summer feels bittersweet to me. I can’t touch and be touched the way I’m usually experiencing summer. Summer is such a sensory period — it’s hot, you sweat, you’re in the park, on rooftops. I was on some nostalgic shit with the first verse, and then the George Floyd uprising happened, and I was like… At this point, everything is changing, so I don’t want the change to be piecemeal at all. I don’t want the minimum. That’s what the powers that be tend to expect us to accept. I’m in a headspace where I finally have a taste of what it could be like to be free, so I just refuse to settle in any way, shape, or form. All of us deserve that. More and more people are starting to realize they don’t have to accept what they’ve been given." Proceeds from the track are being donated to Black womxn experiencing housing instability or facing eviction in the NY/NJ/PA area. For this podcast episode, I spoke to rapper, songwriter, and producer Ivy Sole. This Charlotte born & Philly made artist closed out our Taurus Season. In the middle of what's happening in the world, she's finding her ways to stay sane. We redefined 'I Want You Around' by Snoh Aalegra, elaborated on being an introvert with extrovert tendencies, and spoke on the forthcomingness of the queer community. Be sure to check out 'Distance' by Contour, Orion Sun, and Kinglsey Ibeneche.
In our first Good Convo Live, we have Michael’s second interview with Ivy Sole... powered by wine, water, and the Internet. In the year since their first VMP feature, Ivy’s relocated to Brooklyn, released an Overgrown live album, and faced the ever-shifting hellscape of independent artistry in a post-COVID world. But Ivy’s energy remains as the world relentlessly presses onward; she serves the listener with an optimistic clarity to stay afloat in the current and stay in the house. Michael and Ivy also discuss developing healthy habits, navigating queerness in the industry, and the ethical potential of Black folks having a Zoom cookout.

Ivy Sole Talks Growing Up in Charlotte, Social Issues and Race Relations, Getting Involved With Activism, and Performs “Lost”Ivy Sole is a wonderful talent out of Philadelphia by way of Charlotte, NC. Ivy's a very thoughtful and self-aware person, it is apparent in her music and this conversation. Her latest EP, East, is a quick listen packed with poetic bars and soulful melodies. Her deep smokey voice is an outstanding tool for delivering hooks that won't leave the back of your head. From an early age, her placement in advanced curriculums gave her an outsider's experience. Residing throughout East and West Charlotte she'd go to school in affluent neighborhoods of North Charlotte. As a kid she didn't understand why her local friends couldn't attend with her. She faced culture shock, microaggressions, and knowing that in order to succeed she would need to portray perfection. Her diligence led to an Ivy League school for college, where she came into her own as a student, artist, and human.I found out about prior guest Dave B. through their outstanding collaboration on “Life.” So if you enjoyed Dave's episode and music, I think this will be up your alley. We sat down with Ivy as she arrived in LA on a road trip from Philly.–Lee See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
