Believing in a world free of sexual and intimate partner violence means daring to imagine what communities would look like of everyone had equal access to health, safety and livelihood. When we allow ourselves to imagine “what if,” we create the stepping stones to get us there. For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center is calling on people to think about what their communities could be, and take steps to get there. In a special bonus podcast episode, taken from our Instagram live event earlier this month, we spoke with NSVRC staff Jayla Murdock and Mo Lewis to talk about their national campaign: Building Connected Communities, which leverages Health Equity Frameworks to impact whole communities in the work to end sexual violence.Because this is a recording from an Instagram LiveStream, there may be moments where audio cuts out or gets spotty. You can find the video stream with captions at our Instagram, and follow-along with the transcript to this episode.
In this final episode of our Housing for Prevention series, Brittany Eltringham from NRCDV, Louie Marven from NSVRC, and Mo Lewis from NSVRC draw connections between the conversations in each of the three episodes and share their insights, highlighting the many ways prevention is linked to housing. This episode is part of a series on housing for prevention that we co-created with the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence. For more information and transcripts visit www.nsvrc.org/podcasts
Football gave Drew Bledsoe so much.Memories and friendships that'll last forever. Glory. He's arguably most responsible for completely waking up the New England Patriots franchise in the early 90s. Football also tested the former NFL great. With pain… so much pain. Go Long first chatted at length with Bledsoe shortly after launching in late 2020. Bledsoe opened up then on everything from the Mo Lewis knockout shot to just how pissed he was at Bill Belichick for not giving him his job back to that “bittersweet” Super Bowl win over St. Louis. (You can read Drew Bledsoe, Unfiltered here.)This week felt like a perfect time to touch base again with Bledsoe again. Always honest, always introspective, the four-time Pro Bowler shared many new stories. He relives the time he bruised his liver in high school and Bruce Smith whiplashed him as an NFL rookie. Bledsoe admits he still hasn't watched the Patriots' Super Bowl XXXI loss to the Packers. He dives deep into the power of the sport itself, and how it connects players from polar-opposite backgrounds. And, by God, did he love Buffalo. Drew Bledsoe really, really loved Buffalo.Audio of our conversation is above, video is below and I'll share the written transcript today, as well. If you prefer to listen within Apple, simply sync up your account by selecting “Listen On” up by the audio player within this post. Thanks, everyone. Enjoy.Go Long is committed to longform storytelling in pro football. Miss our 2023 plans? Catch up here, with testimonials. We're completely powered by you. Hour 2: Craig explains why the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl. Is there a secret restaurant at Newark Airport? And what if Mo Lewis never knocked Drew Bledsoe out of the game?
About This Episode: To me, the story of Tom Brady is the greatest example of preparation meeting circumstances. Had it not been for a single moment, Tom Brady might have been a career backup. That moment is what I like to call the “Mo Lewis moment,” a moment when the preparation that we have spent our entire lives on meets the circumstances. The name comes from the former Jets linebacker that hit then Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe, knocking him out of the game and bringing Tom Brady into the game. We all have those moments. Some of us aren't ready. Others cannot recognize those moments when they occur. So, not only is it about preparation; it is being able to recognize an opportunity in the adversity presented in front of you. This is the first in a series of episodes taking us through August 5th in which we will count down to the launch and work through the launch of my brand new book, Unremarkable to Extraordinary. It was the hit felt from Boston to Bangor. In Week 2 of the 2001 season, New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe absorbed a vicious blow from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis, shearing an artery behind his ribs. He was out indefinitely. The 2001 season appeared lost. But in stepped backup Tom Brady, a former sixth round draft choice, and New England sports history was changed forever. Over the next few weeks, Brady compiled a 5-3 record as a starter. When Bledsoe returned to reclaim the starting role, many assumed the job was his. Instead, head coach Bill Belichick made a gutsy call in Week 11, opting to stay with Brady for the rest of the year. The move, or non-move, paid off handsomely. Brady led the Patriots to an unforgettable win over the Raiders in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. Against the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, Brady drove the Patriots 53 yards in the final two minutes, setting up the biggest kick of Adam Vinatieri's career - a 48-yarder for the title. Join NFL Films as they retell the story of the '01 Patriots, the club that launched a dynasty.
Here's the Tom Brady Origin Story: Twenty years ago, a hit by Mo Lewis knocked Drew Bledsoe out of the game. Brady stepped onto the field and a dynasty was born. One play determined Tom Brady's future and the future of a franchise. Or did it? Is this story more myth than fact? What if that hit hadn't happened? One small moment can make a huge difference, but is there more to it than that? Featuring Herm Edwards, Rex Ryan, New York Times Science Writer Dennis Overbye, Boston Sports NBC Reporter Michael Holley.

Drew Bledsoe never complained, even when he thought he deserved another chance. How was he so composed the entire year after being replaced by Tom Brady, following a devastating injury in 2001? “I'm the son of two teachers from Walla, Walla, Washington,” he said, “I wasn't raised to complain.” It's been 21 years since Drew, who'd signed an NFL record $103 million contract with the Patriots, was annihilated by Jet linebacker Mo Lewis - a sideline collision that changed the course of sports history. Drew and Lesley talked about that week, that year – when the Patriots won their first Super Bowl – and Drew's thoughts on seeing Brady return to Foxboro. He had a kindred experience when he returned to New England with the Buffalo Bills, a day he called “completely nerve-wracking.” Now the successful owner of Doubleback Winery, Drew calls selling cabernet sauvignon and the NFL “equally competitive, just different playbooks.” The study of wine and wine-making have taken Drew and his wife Maura all around the world, with Argentina next on their list. And in the ultimate irony, the name of Drew's winemaker is Josh McDaniels.

Joining the Huddle this week is NFL Qb Drew Bledsoe. The First pick in the 1993 draft. Drew helped improve the fortunes of the Patriots, who had fallen on hard times. During his tenure as starting quarterback, the Patriots ended a seven-year postseason drought, qualified for the playoffs four times, and made one Super Bowl appearance. He also made it to three Pro Bowls. Drew suffered a near-fatal injury early in the 2001 season; he got hit by New York Jets linebacker Mo Lewis and suffered a sheared blood vessel in his chest, which almost resulted in his death. This terrible injury leads to his backup Tom Brady becoming the team's starter. He could not regain his starting position for the remainder of the season due to Brady's success; Bledsoe subsequently played three seasons with the Bills. He made a fourth Pro Bowl appearance, and two with the Dallas Cowboys, before retiring during the 2007 offseason. Upon his retirement from the NFL in 2007, Drew Bledsoe "doubled back" to his hometown of Walla Walla, Washington, to realize a long-held dream. Drew and his wife, Maura, purchased a piece of property on the southern edge of the Walla Walla Valley and subsequently launched Doubleback, https://doubleback.com, as an estate-focused winery to craft America's best Cabernet Sauvignon. Drew had long been planning for this moment during his years playing football, and success came immediately as the first vintage earned a spot in Wine Spectator's Top 100 List.
