Budding photographer John Rairdin sits down with Neal Ronaghan to talk about New Pokemon Snap. John reviewed it for Nintendo World Report and both hosts have things to say about the sequel 22 years in the making. But before that, Neal sings the praises of Fly Together and the pair dive into the bucket of listener mail. We even gave away a game! And the recipient...like Balan Wonderworld? Man alive, I didn't believe it myself. Enjoy the show and hey - maybe send in some listener mail of your own? We might have more giveaways if so. The year was 2016. After a delay, Star Fox Zero came out on the Wii U. Rumors of what would eventually become the Switch were swirling. Everyone wanted to know what was up with that new Zelda game. John Rairdin and Neal Ronaghan were too busy enjoying the crap out of Star Fox Zero, though. Join John and Neal as they recount the origins of the heavy GamePad-using title from its origins as a Miyamoto experiment to its life as a PlatinumGames-developed release. We relish in their experience with the game at E3 2015, and then talk about the 2016 review process. We even engage in some tinfoil-hat conspiracies about cut content and major changes. To close, we speculate as to if Star Fox Zero could come to Switch. A shower of beautiful prismatic shards falls down all around us, raining from the heavens in a sparkling display of splendor. Looking around at this wonder of nature, only one thought crosses my mind… We better get under shelter, those things are probably falling at terminal velocity. While we’re there, let’s talk about Kirby! It’s time for Smashterpiece #29: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, a game where you can turn Kirby into a refrigerator. This fact makes it the greatest game of all time, this is not up for debate. We’re joined by Neal Ronaghan of Nintendo World Report to provide his further knowledge of the Kirby universe and provide a direct comparison to Kirby 64’s predecessor Kirby’s Dream Land 3. What do we think of the copy ability merging powers that this game gives Kirby? What are some of our favorite combos? How good is this game’s soundtrack? Gundam? All that and more in today’s episode!Join us next time when we’re met with a terrible fate in a doomed world in Smashterpiece #30: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask!

This is the recording of our PAX East panel, "The Nintendo Switch's Surprise First Birthday Party," featuring Alex Culafi, Neal Ronaghan, Casey Gibson, and Game Informer News Editor Imran Khan. Apologies for the quality - I hooked up my Yeti and put it on the panel table to get the best audio possible. Definitely listenable, I think! The original panel description is below: Shhh - we're trying to keep this a secret from everyone. The Nintendo Switch turned 1 year old in March and we want to slyly celebrate our little one's first year. We've already had so many great memories - Zelda, Mario, all those Nindies! - and we want to rank those games in a Top 5 list. We'll also have games that you and other guests can participate in, like Pin the Joy-Con on the Switch. Join crew at Nintendo World Report for a Switch party for the ages.

Might as well get the jokes out of your system.Apologies for the late show, but something came up for the editor. The fun begins in this funny-numbered episode with New Business that has a heavy November 10 focus. Stephen has Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void as the trilogy in five parts continues, and also discusses the (now funded) Indivisible, back when that sort of thing was in doubt. Donald got in some Yo-Kai Watch and a quick Stella Glow update, but the main game(s) are the various versions of Rodea the Sky Soldier from the November 10 brigade. Austen talks the odd RPGs in the form of Ar No Surge+, and finishes with the last November 10 title Superbeat Xonic.Whatcha Watchin' opens with a Parasyte and superhero updates (Supergirl, Flash... and the BluRay of Justice League Unlimited), then Austen brings it home with Constantine - which isn't a superhero show - the Peanuts Movie, and Danganronpa: The Animation.A special double Feature deals first with a bunch of Activision news, including another frickin' cinematic universe before we play the most lethal game of all: Skylander or King Game? Then, Donald tries to defend the indefensible (which he also did in written form) by way of Cloud hitting Smash in the last Nintendo Direct... but who cares, THERE'S TWO DRAGON QUESTS COMING!!! Finally, the Mushrooms wrap it up with a callout of hypocrisy, a deal gone awry and Stephen's beating an important goal. We'll be talking about Xenoblade Chronicles X among other things on the next show, but you can read Donald's NWR review or check out his video discussion with NWR director Neal Ronaghan. But we need a favor from you - the 6th annual NWR telethon for Child's Play is coming up, and we're later than usual this year. If you want to hear us talking about Splatoon and what could come up with Nintendo's future IPs, get to donating! It's for the kids! And if we break the NWR telethon record ($7250), Donald will play one of the most controversial games in Nintendo history to completion. He didn't suffer Majora's Mask last year, so how about some Skyward Sword? This podcast was recorded on November 15 and was edited by Donald Theriault.
This week on Connectivity Nicholas Bray, Neal Ronaghan, Bryan Rose and Zachary Miller chat about their potential games of the year. Some other subjects that we discuss include, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, NOVA-111, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, Google Cardboard and some thoughts on the documentary from the Super Mario Bros. Movie Blu-Ray. Musical selections this week include the Japanese opening to the Pokémon anime and the 'Warp Zone' from Super Mario Sunshine. This week on Connectivity, Nicholas Bray, Neal Ronaghan, Adam Abou-Nasr and Becky Hollada join forces to discuss growing up playing games with their siblings, along with a chat all about Nintendo magazines from the years gone by. Aside from the two main discussion topics, the gang chat a little bit about the Pikmin 4 announcement, along with some thoughts on Super Mario Maker, Disney Infinity 3.0 and LBX. Becky updates everyone on her and Kim's youtube show and Nick tosses in some discussion of the Super Mario Bros. movie Blu-Ray. Musical selections this week include. A jazz performance of the main Tetris song (Korobeiniki), Green Memory from Chrono Trigger by Yasunori Mitsuda and Kazenone from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles by Yae. FEATURING: As usual, we start with New Business: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Adventure of Pip, and Splatoon.Site director Neal Ronaghan joins us after the break for E3 hype, to tell us what to expect from your favorite Nintendo news website this week, and to answer a few Listener Mail questions!
A delayed podcast eventually releases. A bad podcast is bad forever. (Original recording date: May 18. Not kidding.) Yes, we readily admit this episode took a loooooooooong time to edit. But we hope the content is worth the several months of baking this nearly-lost episode had. Donald's New Business begins with one of the ten best games of 2014 in Kirby Triple Deluxe, in which you can almost hear Austen considering the game. After that, Donald hits the links and finds Mario Golf World Tour to be... par for the course. Finally, Donald provides proof that yes, he did in fact play a freaking otome game in the form of Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsegumi. Stephen was heavy with the roleplaying as he got into the mix with Atelier Totori Plus, but saves most of his praise for the game that would have been his Game of the Year if it had come out a few months later, Tales of Xillia. Austen brings it to the break with the final wrapup of Final Fantasy X HD - yes, lightning was dodged - and the only old game he'd play all year that counts, Captain America: Super Soldier. Also, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is there for some reason. In Whatcha Watchin', Donald wound his way through the byzantine requirements to bring you word of the early days of the WWE Network, while Stephen clocked in a little Adventure Time. Austen's group of shows is superheroic, as you might expect, with the BluRay releases of Spectacular Spider-Man and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. At the time of the recording, friend of the show Neal Ronaghan was getting a lot of heat for his Mario Kart 8 review - if only that would be the stupidest threat of the year. Anyway, since the plan was to have this out around the time of Mario Kart 8's release, the Feature is a look at the Mario Kart series. The Mushrooms contain change recommendations for a multi-billion dollar franchise, dancing on the grave of motion gaming... and vinyl siding? Also, a rather important medical update. In case you missed it on the GOTY show, we're talking The Wizard soon. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie or anything connected to it, so tweet it to us @nfrpodcast, email it to nintendofreeradio@gmail.com or leave it below! This podcast was edited by Austen Parkin and Donald Theriault. All music and clips are used under fair use provisions to further discussion. Recorded live for the kids, it's a very special edition of Nintendo Free Radio! Thanks to the efforts of you guys, Nintendo World Report has raised nearly $7200 for Child's Play and as a result, we got to talk 3DS with you and Nintendo World Report director Neal Ronaghan for nearly an hour this weekend! You can still donate until November 30, so get moving if you haven't already!Topics of discussion include how awesome was the 3DS (so awesome), nasty trivia questions, and... My Little Baby 3D. No, we're not making that up. And it's not the sole reason this show isn't suitable for all ages, surprisingly. Also, we are still talking Earthbound next show - but you now have until the weekend of December 7 to send us your memories and thoughts. So get cracking!
Our seventh-best first-party Wii game is Mario Kart Wii, the 2008 release that brought the Wii Wheel into existence. Mike Gamin and Tyler Ohlew join Neal Ronaghan to chat about the awesome online, the creative courses, and the overall wonderful experience they all had with Mario Kart's sixth iteration. They even discuss Canada at some point since, well, Tyler's a Canadian and Mike can shout at him from across a Great Lake.
Episode 12 of the Frozen North Dinnercast proves to be the most epic podcast of all time. In addition to the regular band of misfits, we've got two East Coast who didn't know any better: all the way from NWR Connectivity, which is Zach's other podcast, comes Neal Ronaghan and his lovely wife Lauren. Couldn't get a better bunch of people together. I'm not saying this show was difficult to edit, but it DID require editing, which is unusual. Beer was consumed, and topics of unspoken social taboos came up. I'm not sure a bunch of white people can discuss this hilarious YouTube video starring Troy Barnes, but it WAS, and I cut that shit out of the show. So there's THAT. But you know what? We talked about other things instead, like Wes Anderson's Batman movie (thanks to Crosstawk Comics for that brilliant spoof. Then there's something about Superman choking a bitch, false allegations that Zach doesn't know how to fucking read, an incredible feature film starring the incomparible Vanilla Ice, a hair-licking cat, and a certain Rob Zombie song that was EVERYWHERE in the 90's. Like the show? Of course you do. You should leave a note on the website (www.crosstawk.com) or sit down and take five minutes to rate and review us on iTunes because happiness is what powers our souls, like Care Bears but with more booze. You can follow most of us on Twitter: Zach @zmiller1902, Marcus @Marchaos1, Neal @nron10, and you can try to follow Lauren @sohavewe but don't be surprised if she completely ignores you. As usual, Gina, Nelson, and Courtney remain ever vigilent in their off-hand dismissal of that superior social media platform.

In our latest developer special, Neal Ronaghan chatted with both Edmund McMillian and Tommy Refenes, two of the developers of the upcoming WiiWare title, Super Meat Boy. The team, responsible for the original Meat Boy as well as the more recently released TimeFcuk, talk about everything under the sun. Things started off smooth with discussion of their origins and the upcoming title, but quickly digressed into aimless, random (hilarious) discussion. Given the coherency of the episode, regardless of the digression, little has been cut from the original recording. As such, all listeners beware - this episode is long. Clocking in at a little over 40 minutes, you'll get a healthy dose of Team Meat, laced with quite a bit of foul-mouthed hilarity. A big thanks to Team Meat and of course, Neal, for making this special happen before his departure. Download Here Subscribe to Our Feed! Edited by Nick DiMola. Music by Andy McKee.

On the first episode of PixlTalk, we delve into the origins of ourselves. We also talk about our favorite games and a little bit of what we've been playing. Neal gets Wet (gross!), Lauren is playing Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story, Nick is typing in Scribblenauts, and Chessa goes import friendly with Another Code R. Strangely enough, our two couples (Neal and Lauren; Nick and Chessa) both met in similar fashions, although one met at a McDonalds and the other met in college. Hope you enjoy the inaugural episode, and leave us any feedback. We'll be up in iTunes soon. Download Here Subscribe to Our Feed! Edited by Neal Ronaghan. Music by A Boy Named Earth
