In This Episode: This week Void and Beej are buying into some of the next generation console hype around PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X… and questioning some of the hype too. From pricing to pre-orders to what we pulled the trigger on, we discuss a little bit of all of it. Weekly Geekery For geekery, BJ finished up some comics on DC Universe, played Kirby Triple Deluxe, watched West World Season 3, and started reading Dune again. Void actually finished an anime for the first time in a long time with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and he’s also been dabbling in Crusader Kings 3 on Game Pass for PC. It’s Wardcast’s centennial episode! To celebrate, we’re bringing you a new series, Wardcast at Night. It’s the same Wardcast experience, only at night. On our one hundredth episode, we talk about Metal Gear Solid’s memes, genes, and submarines as well as the differences in Western and Eastern games culture. In other news: Mario is no longer a plumber, a VentureBeat playthrough of Cuphead reignites the debate about getting good at games, Early Access games are getting considered for Game of the Year, and waves are being caused by Walt William’s book excerpt, “Why I Worship Crunch.” We’d like to thank everyone that’s been on the podcast these past one hundred episodes, from special guests across the games industry to everyone that’s a part of our extended RVA Game Jams family. You all make the Wardcast awesome to do. Here’s to another hundred episodes and then some. Earlier this October, DrFinkelstein took a short drive over to the Ploot household for a day of gaming. This time, he brought the podcast microphone! Due to scheduling and technical hurdles Joe sits this episode out but inside you'll find a good 88-minutes of Nintendo talk from assorted Negative Worlders! On the show there's Paul (Ploot), Dave (BeardedNerd), Trish (TK_Thunder), Erika (EponaEatsCarrots), and of course Stephen (DrFinkelstein). After announcing what they're drinking the crew goes 'round the room and discusses what games they've been playing lately. You'll hear discussion on games such as Kirby Triple Deluxe, Pokemon Go, Yokai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls, Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, Mario Bros., and Ice Climber. There's also broader discussion on different franchises like Pokemon and Professor Layton. Since Dave didn't get to vote in any of the Super Smash Bros. Character Bracket, and since the Nintendo Switch hadn't been revealed yet, the gang discusses Super Smash Bros for Wii U in great length. Character comparisons, Character Roster theory, and a bit of history all wrapped into one package! Negative World's site owner and operator, Zero provides the intro and outro. Music at the break is non-existent since there was no break. This was all live in the same basement-gamer-cave! Full list of episodes

A delayed podcast eventually releases. A bad podcast is bad forever. (Original recording date: May 18. Not kidding.) Yes, we readily admit this episode took a loooooooooong time to edit. But we hope the content is worth the several months of baking this nearly-lost episode had. Donald's New Business begins with one of the ten best games of 2014 in Kirby Triple Deluxe, in which you can almost hear Austen considering the game. After that, Donald hits the links and finds Mario Golf World Tour to be... par for the course. Finally, Donald provides proof that yes, he did in fact play a freaking otome game in the form of Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsegumi. Stephen was heavy with the roleplaying as he got into the mix with Atelier Totori Plus, but saves most of his praise for the game that would have been his Game of the Year if it had come out a few months later, Tales of Xillia. Austen brings it to the break with the final wrapup of Final Fantasy X HD - yes, lightning was dodged - and the only old game he'd play all year that counts, Captain America: Super Soldier. Also, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is there for some reason. In Whatcha Watchin', Donald wound his way through the byzantine requirements to bring you word of the early days of the WWE Network, while Stephen clocked in a little Adventure Time. Austen's group of shows is superheroic, as you might expect, with the BluRay releases of Spectacular Spider-Man and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. At the time of the recording, friend of the show Neal Ronaghan was getting a lot of heat for his Mario Kart 8 review - if only that would be the stupidest threat of the year. Anyway, since the plan was to have this out around the time of Mario Kart 8's release, the Feature is a look at the Mario Kart series. The Mushrooms contain change recommendations for a multi-billion dollar franchise, dancing on the grave of motion gaming... and vinyl siding? Also, a rather important medical update. In case you missed it on the GOTY show, we're talking The Wizard soon. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie or anything connected to it, so tweet it to us @nfrpodcast, email it to nintendofreeradio@gmail.com or leave it below! This podcast was edited by Austen Parkin and Donald Theriault. All music and clips are used under fair use provisions to further discussion. Wait, Austen's playing WHAT???A historic episode of Nintendo Free Radio awaits your ears this week, in more ways than one. Donald Galactic Punts New Business to start off, as he actually finished Persona 4 Golden, but finds the Golden-added content to be slightly tarnishing. Needing a break from all that, he dives headlong into the 2014 Club Nintendo Platinum reward Game and Wario, which spirals off into a discussion of the Platinum and Gold selections - and if you're still waiting for the last minute to decide, that minute's coming. Austen picks up from there with Kirby Triple Deluxe and finds......wait...*rubs eyes*...no, that's not a typo. Austen played a Kirby game. In order to maintain his cred, he also played Vita indie rougelike Rogue Legacy and finds it to be far better than Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, though we damn with faint praise. For reasons that will be clear in the Mushrooms, Stephen has had other things to deal with, so he leads the whole crew including the dry Donald into an extended look at the Destiny "beta".After Now Posted's full, glorious return Whatcha Watchin' takes another turn for the weird. Donald caustions the group that Sharknado 2 is barely worth a New York minute, while Stephen's possessed Netflix queue landed on harem (Tenchi Muyo GXP), space (Knights of Sidonia) and classic (Death Note). Austen also took a trip to space with Star Trek: TNG (Season 3) and is better for the experience after the Blu-Ray transfer. After an extended Listener Mail (which you can read in full here), the crew looks at some recent gaming controversies - though really, is there any other kind of news in gaming - touching on things like games as a service, preorder DLC, adblockers and the apparent KotakuPolygon personality swap. A heavy set of Mushrooms wraps as Stephen and Austen take different tracks to discussing tough life situations, while Donald just wants some damn folders. With Gamescom coming, there's bound to be some things to talk about, so why not drop us an email at nintendofreeradio at gmail dot com if something catches your eye? This podcast was recorded on August 3 and was edited by Donald Theriault. All music is used under fair use protection. Earthbound and Mandatory Fun is the best entertainment combo you can get for twenty bucks if you haven't paid the Black Knight everything yet..

To finalise our celebrations for Mario Kart MAYhem, and yes, we realise it's June, here's a brand new episode of the Vookcast! This episode goes through all of the latest news that we've yet to cover on the Vookcast, including controversial topics like Nintendo's plans for near field communication figurines (known as NFP) as well as their contentious YouTube revenue splitting scheme. Of course, to keep things light, we talk about the latest news in the realm of Nintendo including the latest Smash Bros. news - both the announcement of fan favourite Ike and the controller adapter and a discussion on the blow out of information we received in the last fortnight about Hyrule Warriors. Of course, Mario Kart 8 also came out only last weekend, and Kirby Triple Deluxe in the last week or so too. The team dives into both the games discussing what they thought of both games. To close the episode, we tease our 100th episode as well as our season finale, which will be another in-depth critique episode. We're doing another Gamecube title this time, and we've got a feeling many fans will have played this one. Can you guess what it is? Of course, as promised, we also announce the Mario Kart MAYhem winners who participates in our roundtables the last month, officially closing off Mario Kart MAYhem. We appreciate all entries and thank everyone for entering. Winners will be contacted shortly.

Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that they wouldn't be attending this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. This is the second year in a row that they've done this and it got me thinking about the Expo's importance. Nintendo will now save money and better control their message with videos directed to their fans. Should the other companies follow suit or is E3 something that is still vital for them and the gaming industry as a whole? We also discuss games that are universally praised but we weren't exactly keen on and also discuss the future of Star Wars games and the franchise now that most of the stories of the expanded universe have been made non-canon. As usual we also talk about some of the features that were posted on the site including our reviews for Child of Light and Kirby: Triple Deluxe. We round things out with gaming news and what we've been playing. This week I was joined by my fellow Staff Writers Ryan Meitzler, Thomas Luke and Jorge Jimenez.
