There's another twist in the puzzling disappearance of John and Mike Beckenridge - missing from Southland since 2015. During a Coronial hearing in Christchurch today, a witness retracted his earlier claim his cousin had told him he'd helped the pair flee. The father and stepson's car was found in wild sea near the Catlins - below an 88-metre cliff, with no bodies. Herald reporter Anna Leask says the witness made a complete turnaround after being shown his police statement. "He read through his statement and said - that's what the police have, in this document, that I didn't say it and I never said that and he didn't say this to me." Ivan is the Editor in Chief of The Transmitter, a publication at the Simons Foundation that covers neuroscience for neuroscientists. He is special advisor for policy and strategy in Scientific Publishing and for funding the archive initiatives at the Simons Foundation. In today's episode we chart the debate surrounding Gunung Padang, an enigmatic site in Indonesia, and its implications for the possibility of ice age civilization. Our guide, Dr. Danny Hillman Natawidjaja, an Indonesian geologist specializing in earthquake geology and geotectonics at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Research Center for Geotechnology, walks us through the difficulties of dating archaeological structures with tools like seismic imaging and LiDAR, particularly in a region shaped by natural upheavals. We unpack how environmental changes have influenced historical narratives and the survival of early sites. We also critique the institutional barriers and interpretative conflicts that shape modern archaeology, including the suspect retraction of Danny's seminal work on Gunung Padang - an interdiction not based on allegations of data manipulation, but rather on account of the conclusions drawn by its authors. The Bums wrap up summer hours, and get back in front of the mic with S4:E0114, where the top knot starts with a recap of NFL action through the first two weeks; Rocky discusses the cultural problems and refusals of Chicago Bears ownership and management; Dan Campbell forced to pull up stakes amongst death threats (pro tip: take the fucking points); in NCCAF chatter, NIU catching lightening in a beer bottle, UCO is riding our last nerve, along with Neon; UT vs. UM is game of the week; MLB updates include some amazing individual contributions at the hands of Shohei and Judge; the MLB playoff picture begins to take shape; and Paddy waxes poetic with another IDNKT segment on baseball. The ponytail pops off with a Hall of Fame edition of the Bums intergalactically famous beer review, with Russian River Brewing Company's “Pliny the Elder” (ABV 8%) — a nearly perfect Double IPA choke full of Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops resulting in an incredibly well balanced taste with plenty of bitterness; hats off to RRBC and their hat tip to the scholar, historian, officer, writer, and Roman Naturalist- Pliny the Elder (who purportedly perished while rescuing people during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. — Pliny has also rescued the Bums thirst for HoF beer; HUGE thanks to “V the Younger” for going over the road to fetch us some freshy Pliny (not all heroes wear capes); the flag flying game of Chicago's Mexican community is en fuego; talk turns to travelogues from Rocky (Cabo) and Paddy (smitten with the mitten); drama within Perry Ferrel's musical act ‘Jane's Retraction' is unsurprising but a bummer nonetheless; another Paddy Report is chronicled on the topic of Smoke/CO detectors; and end with a bird watching diatribe. Summer is over, and the Bums have dusted off their lunch pails — we're so back.Recorded on September 19th, 2024 at B.O.M.'s global headquarters ‘East Bunker' in Chicago, IL USA.

MedLink Neurology Podcast is delighted to feature selected episodes from BrainWaves, courtesy of James E Siegler MD, its originator and host. BrainWaves is an academic audio podcast whose mission is to educate medical providers through clinical cases and topical reviews in neurology, medicine, and the humanities. Episodes originally aired from 2016 to 2021. Originally released: May 30, 2019 Since January 1, 2019, there have been nearly 900 confirmed measles cases across 24 states in the United States. This is 10 times greater than the number of cases in the US 3 years ago, and it is the largest outbreak the US has seen since 1994. The month of May also marks the first reported case of measles in the state of Pennsylvania, where BrainWaves is produced. So this week on the program, Jim Siegler speaks with Dr. Erika Mejia (pediatrician) about the medical and sociopolitical triggers for this outbreak, the misconceptions of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, and finally, what you can do to keep measles from "going viral."* Produced by James E Siegler and Erika Mejia. Music courtesy of Advent Chamber Orchestra, Coldnoise, Josh Woodward, Kevin McLeod, and Lee Roosevere. Sound effects by Mike Koenig and Daniel Simion. BrainWaves' podcasts and online content are intended for medical education only and should not be used for clinical decision-making. The All Star game was fun at times and some in game interviews were entertaining. The NL finally won one of these things but everyone is talking about the uniforms the teams wore. It looked like an epic fail to me. A handful of Chiefs are in headlines off the field this week, right before training camp starts. Some good, some bad, but it's incredible how easy it is to make news if you're on this team. In Georgia, the football program believes it's a victim of a hit piece by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I'm not so sure they have a leg to stand on demanding a retraction and now a spotlight is on a mega program that looks out of control. Why is it a big deal that Joe Biden is meeting with Zelensky? Seriously, what could actually happen when golf shirt guy meets with grumpy grandpa? And didn't Trump get impeached for just calling Zelensky? Wow, are we all messed up. A 48 year old black woman Democrat in Georgia says her party has left her and she's switched to GOP. The interesting part is she's from Atlanta and trying to educate her voters that the Dems haven't helped them at all. And the mayor of St. Louis is in hot water after her texts were released through an open records act. Seems she's not in favor of stricter gun laws at all. Hey, can we take a peek into Mayor Q's phone and see what he's up to?

On Thanksgiving eve, 2021, three Brooklyn kids , the 12, 13, & 14 year old, Brendan, Kyi-el & Kawun were playing with a basketball where the ball hit the camera damaging it in the process. The business, owned by an ex-police officer Kruythoff Forrester than exited the business and allegedly chased the trio for 7-minutes with his gun out. The ex-officer was then allegedly arrested for the incident and had been detained at the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville. According to The City, NYPD Community Affairs Bureau Chief Jeffrey Maddrey at the time reportedly ordered the ex-cop's arrest to be voided. Hours later Forrester was released and no charges were pressed at the time. The report states that officials say he was licensed to have a pistol, and that Forrester denied drawing or pointing his gun at the boys. Despite the video being released, nothing has happened. They tell their side of the story, and address what accountability looks like for them. They are asking for a public apology. They are organizing for a Youth March April 10 in Brooklyn starting at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Demands beings asked are: transparent investigation by the attorney generals audience for Forrester actions, and actions by NYPD. Resignation by Chief Maddrey and Chief Scott Henderson. Retraction & correction to members of the media who allegedly misrepresented the incident.
