What does it mean to rest? And how can we rest when there is so much to do? On this episode of Student Ministry Connection, Steve takes a moment to share some of what he's learned over the past several years on the topic of rest, especially as it pertains to us in student ministry. If we are going to do well in this ministry, we need to find fulfillment in Christ, so we'll discuss why we need to say no sometimes, why Sabbath is important, some bad examples of rest, and a few ideas of how to truly rest in and with God.  Links referenced in this episode:  Bible Project podcast series on Sabbath - https://bibleproject.com/podcast/series/7th-day-rest-sabbath/ Unhurried Living podcast series on rest (265, 267, 269, 271) - https://www.unhurriedliving.com/blog?tag=podcast Youth Ministry SoulKeeper podcast - https://podcast.downloadyouthministry.com/youth-ministry-soul-keeper/ Register for The Orange Conference at https://theorangeconference.com  Save 10% off your OC24 ticket by using promo code: OC24NNYM10  Learn more about Steve's ministry with NNYM at http://nnym.org/stevecullum  Sign up to get Steve's newsletter at https://bit.ly/cullumnewsletter  Support the ministry by giving online at https://bit.ly/cullumsupport  Contact Steve about partnerships, speaking, coaching, or consulting at https://bit.ly/cullumcontact  Read Steve's blog at https://stevecullum.com  Follow Steve on Twitter: https://twitter.com/stevecullum  Follow Student Ministry Connection on Instagram: https://instagram.com/studentministryconnection  Be sure to join us in prayer for revival every Wednesday at 11am PT, 12pm MT, 1pm CT, 2pm ET.  Sponsor for this episode of podcast: G Shades - https://gshades.org (Use code CONNECTION to save $20 off your next order).  Purchase a copy of Life Through the Lens of the Gospel by Mike Haynes - https://amzn.to/432h2B5  Get a copy of the Cards Christians Like card game and/or their brand new game, Holy Guacamole, by using the link https://bit.ly/cardschristianslike and also support Student Ministry Connection.  Note: Some of the links above are affiliate links. Maybe you are like today's guest and like me. I have mistreated my body over the years. I've deprived it of sleep and calories and nourishing foods. I've emotionally eaten my way through hard times, like – just one example here, there are many – when the girls were little and Ryan was out of town for w-e-e-k-s. I have over-exercised by doing too much when my body was sick and too sore in an attempt to reach an arbitrary fitness goal. And I know I'm not alone.  In this episode, we are talking about how God redeems us and our broken stories after we've mistreated our bodies. While this episode addresses disordered eating, it's really about the lies we tell ourselves about our bodies and the truth God whispers back to us. It's about being weak and fragile and wounded, and a God who holds us in His almighty hands, telling us that His victory and strength are ours. This is an episode about the redemption of every part of our story, including our body stories. Do you feel disqualified because of your past? My guest Toni Collier has learned from personal experience that when you allow God to redeem your brokenness and surrender your life and story to Him, hope truly is possible. Toni and I discuss how shame from past mistakes and/or abuse can be crippling, (and she has incredible stories of both)—but when God comes in, you're given an assignment to boldly and bravely point to His strength, no longer left feeling discounted because of your weakness. I know you'll laugh, nod along and be inspired to be bold about your brokenness and move toward holy healing after hearing this episode!
