As Pope Francis is laid to rest in a simple wooden casket — a modest affair, in keeping with a humility that defined his papacy — we ask: what legacy does he leave behind? Over 12 years, Francis challenged tradition, spoke out for the poor, and confronted global issues from climate change to migration. But will the next Pope continue his reformist path, or mark a return to traditional values?Joining us for this in-depth debate are Jesuit theologian Gerry O'Hanlon, theologian and lecturer Gina Menzies, commentator with Gript Media Laura Perrins, and Alison O'Connor, columnist with the Sunday Times.Plus: as teachers struggle to afford life in the capital, we examine growing calls for a #DublinAllowance — should educators be paid more to work in the city?#TheTonightShow Hosted on Acast. By the year 2040, churches will no longer have Sunday morning sermons… Joel Murphy said so.Just kidding, just kidding… I said so, and then said that Joel said so. But Joel does.In his role at Futuring Hub, Joel is part of a team that exist to “consider tomorrow in order to anticipate and shape today's church.” In this conversation, we get a crash course on futuring, consider some of its pros & cons, and then begin to feel out how its outputs are already being applied into our contexts. Brad Brisco and I have a fascinating conversation about the future of church planting in North America. Brad shares his personal journey from the restaurant business to seminary and church planting, and how that led him to rethink the entire approach to planting new churches. He argues that we need to shift our mindset - from seeing the church as a vendor of religious goods and services, to understanding the church as a sent missionary people. This is a crucial distinction, because it changes everything about how we approach church planting. Brad unpacks the benefits of co-vocational ministry, the importance of building diverse teams, and the need to start with missionary behaviors and activities rather than just launching a Sunday morning service. If you're someone involved in church planting, or if you're simply curious about the future of the church in our rapidly changing culture, you're going to want to lean in and listen closely to this conversation. Brad offers a compelling new vision that just might reshape the way we think about fulfilling the Great Commission in our communities. Brad Brisco is currently the Director of Multiplication Strategies for the Send Network. He holds a doctorate in the area of missional ecclesiology, his doctoral thesis was on assisting existing congregations in transitioning in a missional direction. He is the co-author of Missional Essentials, a twelve-week small group study guide, The Missional Quest: Becoming a Church of the Long Run, Next Door As It Is In Heaven, and author of ReThink and Covocational Church Planting. In this episode we discuss how the Lord is doing great things through the church.
Have you been wondering that amidst all the upheaval, denominational splits, and church failures -- where the heck do we go next? And how do we do better?Same. That's why I was so glad that Eugene Kim joined me for a conversation about just that, and we discuss ...the cycles in church history (and where we are right now)how young people are approaching spirituality differently than ever beforewhat we can learn from the failures of the attractional model of churchwhere change really comes from (and the big question to ask when you wanna make a move)Eugene Kim is an ordained minister with over 25 years of experience in local church ministry. After serving his last church for 17 years, he discerned the need to step outside the familiar in order to reimagine how we do “church” from the ground up. So in 2020, he left his pastoral role and founded New Wine Collective — a church innovation think-tank and R&D lab.Since then, Eugene has been learning, ideating, and convening conversations about the changing spiritual landscape and future of the Church. He speaks, writes, and consults but is still a pastor at heart who loves walking alongside people in their journeys. He is passionate about systemic change and designing new ways of being the Church that can give everyone a place to belong and help heal the world.Eugene grew up in Queens, NY and Seoul, Korea, and now lives in the Boston area. He enjoys hanging out with his three kids, eating, cooking, and watching Korean dramas with his wife.Website and Social Media Linkshttps://newwinecollective.org/https://twitter.com/eugenepkim2https://www.instagram.com/eugenepkim/https://www.threads.net/@eugenepkimhttps://www.facebook.com/newwinecollectiveKate Boyd - Book | Newsletter | Instagram | Twitter

Artificial Intelligence has developed at accelerated levels over the past few years. Since the introduction of Chat GBT, it has now become an everyday tool for all of us. We are either excited about the possibilities or frightened of them (or somewhere in between). Our guest on this episode is a best-selling author who has written about AI in his novels. Through his extensive research (and his military background) he has so much to share about our curious question. Guest Info International bestselling author Jeffrey Wilson has at one time worked as an actor, a firefighter, a paramedic, a jet pilot, a diving instructor, a Naval Officer, and a Vascular and Trauma Surgeon. He is a U.S. Navy veteran who served more than fourteen years, with multiple deployments as a combat surgeon with Naval Special Warfare (SEALs) and a Joint Special Operations Task Force. He has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other places. With fellow veteran Brian Andrews, they write, as Andrews and Wilson, multiple #1 bestselling thriller series including the TIER ONE series, the SONS OF VALOR series, the faith-based thriller series THE SHEPHERDS which has been optioned by Sony Affirm for Television, WEB Griffin's Presidential Agent Series, and now Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Sr. Series for Penguin beginning with ACT OF DEFIANCE coming May 2024 on the 40th anniversary of THE HUNT FOR THE RED OCTOBER. Other works include the speculative thrillers THE SANDBOX and the upcoming FOUR MINUTES. Andrews and Wilson have now taken their storytelling to Hollywood, with more than a dozen of their stories optioned and in development for both television and Feature Film with major studios including Sony, MakeReady/Endeavor, Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment, Skydance, PictureStart, Walden, and the Cross Brothers who are adapting their wildly popular TIER ONE Series of books as a streaming television series. All of their media projects have Andrews and Wilson attached as producers and they are screenwriters for several as well. Jeff and his wife, Wendy are Virginia natives who, with their four children Ashley, Emma, Jack, and Connor, now call Tampa, Florida home.
