After two years away, the bitches are BACK, Jill and Nik are now recording at Nashville's Pearl Diver, armed with Fernet, champagne, and plenty of stories to share. Life has changed dramatically since you dummies last heard from your favorite raunchy industry veterans – Jill welcomed her son Wolfie into the world (yes, she literally worked a jewelry pop-up while in labor before heading to the hospital) while Nik claimed the title of "DAQ Queen of East Nashville" in a speed bartending competition that scored her both a giant novelty check and a new job.Between sips of Champagne and shots from skull-shaped glasses, the pair catch us up on career shifts, memorable travels, and the unexpected ways their paths have converged despite life's curveballs. Their chemistry remains undeniable as they seamlessly bounce between heartfelt confessions about parenthood challenges and hilarious tales from behind the bar. This revamped season brings exciting new features – not only can you now watch episodes with full video, but listeners can call or text the podcast hotline (347-WASTEDD) to share their own stories and potentially have them featured on future episodes. New segments like "Take a Shot or Take a Seat" test bartender resilience in nightmare scenarios, while a lightning round reveals their biggest goals for this season – including taking the show on the road to capture Nashville's ever-expanding bar scene.Ready to reconnect with your favorite feral bartenders? Give us a call at 347-927-8333, follow our new TikTok, and strap in for another round of unfiltered industry talk that reminds us why we missed these voices so much. Few tiki and tropical drinks are as light, herbal, and dangerously sessionable as the Missionary's Downfall. Created by Don the Beachcomber in the 1930s, it's one of the genre's earlier recipes and one of the first cocktails to embrace the power of the blender. And it is the blender itself — and proper blending technique — that will primarily be in our crosshairs on today's episode. Here to lead us on that exploration is returning guest, VinePair Next Wave Awards Bartender of the Year (2024), and Chief Cocktail Officer at Brooklyn's Sunken Harbor Club, Garret Richard. Listen on (or read below) to discover Garret's Missionary's Downfall recipe — and don't forget to like, review, and subscribe! Garret Richard's Missionary's Downfall Recipe Ingredients - ½ ounce acid-adjusted pineapple juice* or lime juice - ½ ounce rich honey syrup (about 3:1 by weight, Florida Orange Blossom or Acacia) - ½ ounce peach liqueur, such as Giffard Crème de Pêche de Vigne (from freezer) - ½ ounce RinQuinQuin Peach Aperitif (from freezer) - 1 ounce white rum, such as Probitas or Havana 3-Year (from freezer) - 60 grams chopped pineapple chunks (frozen for a day, then taken out of freezer to defrost, and strained) - 12-13 fresh mint leaves - 1 ½ cups (170 grams) crushed ice - ¼ teaspoon Xantham gum - Garnish: pineapple wedge and mint sprigs Directions 1. Add all ingredients sans ice to a blender and flash blend until fully incorporated (blend for as short a time as possible to achieve this). 2. Add ice and blend until chilled and fully incorporated (again, the shorter the better here). 3. Serve in a chilled Pearl Diver (or 10 ounce) glass and garnish with mint and pineapple wedge. *Acid Adjusted Pineapple Juice Recipe Ingredients - 3.2 grams citric acid- 2.0 grams malic acid- 100 milliliters fresh pineapple juice (strained)

In Part 2 of our interview, Marc Vincenz—author of over 40 books of poetry—talks about his book of poetry, The Pearl Diver of Irunmani (White Pine Press, 2023). We dive into the deep waters of a consciousness preparing for death. During a health crisis, Vincenz came into a new language informed by this encounter, finding footing in "the heart of a word" and his own fearless observations. "See the island in your mind/or you will always be lost." From within a language he invents as if to breathe in this unfamiliar element, Vincenz takes us through then beyond "the theater of fear"..."when the audience leaves and you're left only with yourself." The poet and the reader emerge changed. Like a cyborg prophet, Marc now writes from the seam between worlds—life and death, nature and "the machinery of the world" (Borges)—mitigating oppositions with deep music. "The traffic doesn't slow/the bling navigates/like porpoises' eyes/ in the windows,/those deep dangling metaphors/in a city tangled up in its own industrial age." You can hear Pt. 1 of our interview which aired 10/6/24 on KSQD. We discuss Marc's book, The King of Prussia is Drunk on Stars (Lavender Ink, 2024) here: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/the-hive8/episodes/S6E31-Marc-Vincenz-talks-with-Roxi-Power-e2pcb8o Marc Vincenz is a poet, fiction writer, translator, editor, publisher, musician and artist. His latest poetry collections are A Splash of Cave Paint, and The King of Prussia is Drunk on Stars. His latest translation is An Audible Blue: Selected Poems (1963 - 2016) by celebrated Swiss poet and novelist, Klaus Merz, which won the 2023 Massachusetts Book Award for Translated Literature. His forthcoming poetry collections are Spells for the Wicked (Unlikely Books 2025) and No More Animal Poems with White Pine Press in 2026. Marc's work has been translated into German, Russian, Romanian, French, Icelandic, and Chinese. Marc is the publisher for MadHat Press and New American Writing. In this episode of The Last Tranche, Matt Layton, partner and head of Europe at Pearl Diver Capital, discusses strategies for investing in CLO debt and equity amid the recent rally in liabilities.Layton says that analysing a manager's past behaviour is a better predictor of CLO equity returns than how a manager is tiered by the debt markets. He adds that some of the tier one managers have shown that they can be prone to sell loans too quickly during recent periods of volatility, which has caused those firms to lose their arbitrage faster than other managers.Layton goes on to draw parallels between today's CLO market and the vintage of deals priced in 2006 to 2007, where equity cashflows were paused during the financial crisis. When spread widening occurred on the asset side (due to amend and extend activity pushing back 2010 maturity dates) equity returns were outsized once the CLOs came back into compliance with their tests. Layton forecasts a similar market technical to play out in the next several years.Layton also discusses the investment opportunity in the US versus Europe, and how he expects the deterioration in credit quality, owing to higher interest rates, playing out amid forecasts that the US is no longer headed into a recession.

I have a “plan" to defeat the pornographers and the fentanyl dealers, to empty out the family law courts and the prisons, to fill up the churches and the seminaries.(I'm serious.)It all starts with the way Jesus describes himself to John before the vision of the Revelation begins. This aspect of Jesus's identity is fundamental to our faith and at the same time often forgotten about (or at least overlooked) in the modern church. To the early church, on the contrary, it was central. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis:We need to remember Jesus as the Pearl Diver.

Jamie and Ben joined the show and on the intro I asked them about their titles.. Oh, you guys own the joint?? Cool... One of the benefits of a good PR company is getting them on the show.. (Thanks Roar!!) I love a good show where I am literally meeting people for the first time on air. I could not be more excited to share this conversation with my two new friends, who are just incredible! We talk about their travels, their restaurant, their philosophy on operations, and their future, which is pretty bright! Stay tuned as you may get to hear more from these two gentlemen in the near future! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brandon-styll/message

On this episode of THE COCKTAIL GURU PODCAST, Jeff "Beachbum" Berry, bar owner and restaurateur, acclaimed drinks historian and author, and a globally recognized authority on Tiki culture, tells hosts Jonathan & Jeffrey Pogash the technicolor tale of how the Los Angeles native went from writing for the screen in Hollywood to becoming the North Star of the tropical cocktail galaxy and slinging drinks in New Orleans. Brought to you by Plantation Rum, Denizen Rum, and J.P. Wiser's Canadian Whisky. THE COCKTAIL GURU PODCAST is produced by 1st Reel Entertainment and distributed by EatsDrinksTV, a service of the Center for Culinary Culture—Home of The Cocktail Collection, and is available wherever fine podcasts can be heard. The Center for Culinary Culture—Telling the Story of Food & Drink…One Taste at a Time. GUEST BIO One of Imbibe's “25 Most Influential Cocktail Personalities of the Past Century,” Jeff “Beachbum” Berry is the author of seven books on vintage tropical drinks, which published for the first time anywhere the lost recipes of Tiki's golden age—from the original Zombie, Jet Pilot, and Pearl Diver to the Navy Grog, Saturn, Three Dots & A Dash, and many others. Esquire calls Jeff “one of the instigators of the cocktail revolution” and Food & Wine “one of the world's leading rum experts,” while The New York Times cites him as “the Indiana Jones of Tiki drinks” and The Los Angeles Times as “A hybrid of street-smart gumshoe, anthropologist, and mixologist.” Jeff's been featured on the Travel Channel's “Food Paradise” TV series, The Discovery Channel, PBS Television, and National Public Radio; he's also been profiled in The Washington Post, USA Today, The New York Times, and Wine Enthusiast. Jeff's original cocktail recipes have been printed in publications around the world, from Bon Appétit and The Huffington Post to over 20 international recipe books, including the venerable Mr. Boston Official Bartender's Guide. And now Jeff's drinks are being served at his restaurant in New Orleans, Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29, which has won critical acclaim in Esquire, Playboy, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Houston Chronicle, GQ, Travel + Leisure, Town & Country, Southern Living, New Orleans, and the Food Network. With Martin Doudoroff, Jeff co-created Total Tiki for iPad and iPhone, a drink recipe app which Macworld calls “beautifully rendered and, thanks to Berry's tireless reporting, impeccably sourced.” Jeff's also co-created a line of Tiki barware with Cocktail Kingdom, which Imbibehails as “especially notable because it revives old styles of essential glassware that were previously almost impossible to find.” While this is all way too much work for a bum, Jeff also contributed 29 entries to The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails and lectures about tropical drinks across the US, Europe, and Latin America. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thecocktailgurupodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thecocktailgurupodcast/support

“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.” – Colossians 1:13-14 (NLT) In his classic book, Miracles, author C.S. Lewis gives us a wonderful illustration of Christ representing a pearl diver in search of hidden treasure. It's a beautiful passage that your own eyes should read, “One may think of a diver, first reducing himself to nakedness, then glancing in mid-air, then gone with a splash, vanishing rushing down through green and warm water into black and cold water, down through increasing pressure into the deathlike region of ooze and slime and old decay; then up again, back to colour and light, his lungs almost bursting, till suddenly he breaks the surface again, holding in his hand the dripping, precious thing he went down to recover. He and it are both coloured now that they have come up into the light: down below, where it lay colorless in the dark, he lost his color too.” (Miracles, chap. 14). Can you believe that you and I are that ‘dripping, precious thing' Jesus went down to recover? If you're like me, it's a thought that seems beyond what my little finite mind can comprehend. We've become quite comfortable here in our ‘region of ooze and slime and old decay.' So comfortable that we forget that we were created for much more. The Son of God volunteered to descend into the depths of darkness in order to bring us into His glorious light. Not only is this pearl diver the One who retrieves us, but his very life becomes the currency used in order to purchase us for display in the Father's kingdom collection. I can imagine the great Pearl Diver regaling the angels in heaven with stories from some of his deep dives… “I found this one in the depths of despair and depression.” “This beauty was pulled from the sea of drug & alcohol addiction.” “A shark tried to snatch this one away from me but I eventually got her to safety. Got a few scars to prove it but you should see the shark…at least what's left of him.” Perhaps even now the angels are on the edge of their seats hearing Him tell your story. Reflection: How does it feel to know how valuable you are to the Pearl Diver and his Father? As a Kingdom Writer, can you find creative ways to weave in your story of going from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of light with your readers?

Hi Guys, So this is not our usual format of a show but a cool look at the year and somethings that didn't make the show. We thought we would travel back throughout the year at some key times while recording that was not in the original shows. It's hard at times to edit the show and wonder what to keep and what you can't use. There are some of the cuts are due to time restraints of the show (so it won't be too long as we like to keep it under an hour). There was others that on their own are great but just didn't combine well with that show's content. So enjoy and here are some hints of topics you will hear: 1) DUI driving and old man in a Volvo 2) Crushed ice story 3) Mark and Flea markets 4) Good food at a tiki bar? 5) Does Paola read the scripts? 6) Pass the Drink on the left hand side.... 7) Mark made the intro (and Norma made the graphic)! 8) Different bartenders made the drinks their own way 9) Paola will take the kid cup version of that tiki drink please! 10) Sex in the City fact that is little more than the script 11) What did Craig do at the beginning of COVID with his time? 12) Talk Like a Pirate Rob gets the whip!! 13) Is there a difference in alcohol percentage (CDN vs USA)? 14) Paola emits fear into the crew 15) KD (Canadian dish of choice) 16) Paola may or may not be a B****? 17) Brazilian sex in the bar 18) Mark and cemeteries 19) B-day FB notifications Well that is the show and don't forget to subscribe to our show or newsletter at: https://tikicentralcanada.ca/subscribe/ OR follow us on FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, iTunes, GooglePlay, Spotify, Podomatic, and YouTube!!! Stay tuned to the next show, we will talk about Pearl Diver (tiki classic of Don the Beachcombers).
