He might feel the rumble of nearly 200 motorcycles ride by his house Saturday, as Big Bikes for Little Tikes celebrates 30 years with 9-year-old Tucker Lovelace. The ride through the Coulee Region helps raise money for the Viroqua kid who has medical needs nobody—especially a 9-year-old—should ever have to endure. The ride should be buzzing by his house as they take off from Great River Harley in Onalaska, go through Viroqua, and end up at Features in Holmen to help make Tucker and his family's wish come true—helping get him the $15,000 medical bed he needs to sleep safely. With 30 years of Big Bikes, there are surely stories to tell and riders who have been to more than a few of these events to help kids with medical needs. She wants people to see the beautiful quiltwork on display in the Grand's current exhibition, “Picking Up the Piecework: A Legacy of Creativity Through the Lens of Mary Hartten.” After Hartten, an avid quilter, died, her family gave her fabric and unfinished piecework to be sold to benefit The Grand. This exhibit features quilts that have been made — in a variety of styles — using those pieces, thus continuing Hartten's legacy. The exhibit runs through April 24.On Sat. April 10 at 5 p.m., Mary's son Randy Hartten will give a presentation about “An Unfinished Project,” a printed book of 54 of Mary's quilt squares. Brie describes that project.Brie says: What's really neat is you can actually see the “finished side” on one and flip the book over and see exactly how precise she was and how complicated the stitching was on the other side. And so you get a true behind-the-scenes look at how much math and geometry and and precision that was needed to do this well. The Trump administration has caused issues of significant food waste due to a range of its policies, including immigration raids, tariffs, cuts to food assistance programmes, and the destruction of food for programmes like USAID.  This has had huge consequences, including environmental impacts, as well as impacts on the estimated more than 47 million people in the US who don't have enough food to eat, and those who have relied on US foreign aid that has been cut.
