Send us a textEver created something valuable completely by accident? That's exactly what happened when I stumbled upon the "binge bank strategy" without even knowing it existed. Through consistently publishing short, digestible 5-15 minute podcast episodes about SEO topics, I unexpectedly built a library of content that new listeners could easily binge through once they discovered my show. The analytics don't lie – when someone finds an episode they connect with, they often download multiple back-catalog episodes in quick succession. The beauty lies in the format: just as 20-minute TV episodes are easier to binge than hour-long dramas, these brief SEO lessons create a low commitment barrier that makes saying "just one more" almost irresistible. What makes this approach powerful is that it removes the pressure of creating viral hits. Instead, you focus on consistent value, knowing that when your ideal audience eventually discovers you, they'll have a wealth of content waiting for them. This accidental strategy transformed my podcast from a personal speaking exercise into a genuine resource that's helped countless SEO practitioners. The connections formed with listeners who've binged through episodes have provided invaluable feedback and relationships I never anticipated.Whether you're creating podcasts, videos, blog posts, or any other content format, consider building your own binge bank. The cumulative value grows over time, and as I've discovered, sometimes the best content strategies aren't meticulously planned – they emerge naturally from consistent delivery of value. Is the Online Safety Act protecting children – or threatening free speech? Michael Simmons hosts John Power, who writes the Spectator's cover piece this week on how the Act has inadvertently created online censorship. Implemented and defended by the current Labour government, it is actually the result of legislation passed by the Conservatives in 2023 – which Labour did not support at the time, arguing it didn't go far enough. Michael and John joined by former Conservative MP Miriam Cates who defends the core aims and principles at the heart of the Act. Jimmy Barrett takes you through the stories that matter the most on the morning of 08/01/25.
First: the new era of censorshipA year ago, John Power notes, the UK was consumed by race riots precipitated by online rumours about the perpetrator of the Southport atrocity. This summer, there have been protests, but ‘something is different'. With the introduction of the Online Safety Act, ‘the government is exerting far greater control over what can and can't be viewed online'. While the act ‘promises to protect minors from harmful material', he argues that it is ‘the most sweeping attempt by any liberal democracy to bring the online world under the control of the state'.Implemented and defended by the current Labour government, it is actually the result of legislation passed by the Conservatives in 2023 – which Labour did not support at the time, arguing it didn't go far enough. So how much of a danger is the Act to free speech in Britain?John joined the podcast to discuss further alongside former Conservative minister Steve Baker, MP from 2010-24, and who was one of the biggest critics of the bill within the Conservative Party at the time.Next: should we be worried about protests against migrants? This week, outside a hotel in Epping, groups amassed to protest against the migrants housed there, with counter-protestors appearing in turn. Tommy Robinson might not have appeared in the end, but the Spectator's Max Jeffrey did, concluding that the protests were ultimately ‘anticlimactic'.Nevertheless, the protests have sparked debate about the motivations of those speaking out against the migrants – are there legitimate concerns voiced by locals, or are the protests being manipulated by figures on the political fringes? And what do the protests tell us about community tensions in the UK? Max joined the podcast to discuss alongside the editor of Spiked Tom Slater. And finally: why are ‘romantasy' novels so popular?Lara Brown writes in the magazine this week about the phenomenon of the genre ‘romantasy', which mixes romance with fantasy. While ‘chick-lit' is nothing new, Lara argues that this is ‘literature taken to its lowest form', emblematic of the terminally online young people who consume it. Nevertheless, it is incredibly popular and is credited by publishers as boosting the British fiction industry to over £1 billion. To unpack the genre's popularity, Lara joined the podcast, alongside Sarah Maxwell, the founder of London's first romance-only bookshop Saucy Books, based in Notting Hill.Hosted by William Moore and Lara Prendergast.Produced by Patrick Gibbons and Megan McElroy.

In this episode of the Quality Hub podcast, Xavier Francis hosts a discussion with Scott Dawson, and Drew Markley from Core Business Solutions and Stephanie Alexander CEO of BOOST, on the turbulent landscape of government contracting in 2025. Key issues include stalled contract awards, reduced government staffing, and heightened competition, leading many small businesses to freeze operations out of uncertainty. Stephanie urges businesses to take action, streamline operations, reassess budgets, and invest in critical certifications like CMMC. Subcontracting and strategic partnerships are emphasized over priming, with networking and careful partner selection being crucial. With limited cash flow, many are turning to fractional support for compliance needs. The overarching message: don't wait—act decisively to adapt and thrive. Seems to me that Turso is to SQLite what MotherDuck is to DuckDB. Mike Fiedler Continue to use the SQLite you love and care about (even the one inside Python runtime) and launch a daemon that watches the db for changes and replicates changes to an S3-type object store. Deeper dive: Litestream: Revamped Brian #2: PEP 792 – Project status markers in the simple index Currently 3 status markers for packages Trove Classifier status Indices can be yanked PyPI projects - admins can quarantine a project, owners can archive a project Proposal is to have something that can have only one state active archived quarantined deprecated This has been Approved, but not Implemented yet. In this episode, I'm diving into one of the biggest game changers for my health—consuming less content on social media. I didn't realize how much mindless scrolling was affecting my mental and physical well-being until I intentionally started cutting back. My mind felt clearer, my creativity sparked again, and I became more present in my daily life. One of the most powerful swaps I made? Replacing endless scrolling with reading. Instead of absorbing fragmented, often overwhelming content, I now immerse myself in a good book, that doesn't have to be educational, just something I truly enjoy. This simple shift has helped me feel more grounded and intentional with my time.In this episode, I'll share practical tips for mindful social media use, how I balance being online while running a business, and why protecting your energy is just as important as protecting your body. Social media should be a tool—not a trap. Let's talk about how to make it work for you, instead of against you.Connect with me on instagram @drhalieschoff and @alphahealthwellness
