This episode opens "Someday I'll Love" poems through the vivid imagery of a young poet's connection with their grandmother, remembering in love as memory begins to slip. Emerald ᏃᏈᏏ GoingSnake is an Indigenous poet from the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in Oklahoma. Winner of the 2024 Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award for poetry and the recipient of the 2023 Indigenous Nations Poets fellowship, they live in St. Louis. Portrait by Erin Lewis Photography The poem was featured on Poem-a-Day and can be found at the Academy of American Poets. See here for the poem online. (https://poets.org/poem/someday-ill-love) Someday I'll Love— Emerald ᏃᏈᏏ GoingSnake —after Frank O'Hara like I dreamt of the lamb—slaughtered, forgotten, lying on porcelain tile, on crimson-filled grout— and woke up thinking of my grandmother, of her Betty Boop hands that held marbled stone, held dough-balled flour, held the first strands of my hair floating atop the river— like winter apples, the ones that hang outside my living room window and survive first snowfall to feed the neighborhood crows, how they fall beneath my boots, staining my rubber soles with epigraphs of rot, epigraphs of fors, of dears, of holding on till frost's end. Someday I will see long-forgotten fingerprints on the inside of my eyelids as I go to sleep, as I close my eyes for silence on a Wednesday, mourning—seeking—creases and smile lines, porch lights and swing sets, summer nights of lightning bugs and Johnny Cash. I think it will be a Tuesday, or maybe someday is yesterday, is two months from now, is going to be a day when I forget what I'm supposed to be remembering. For now, I will paint my nails cradle, adorn my skin in cloth that doesn't choke, tell my bones that they are each a lamb remembered. Copyright © 2024 by Emerald ᏃᏈᏏ GoingSnake. Greg Walker, son of famous cartoonist Mort Walker drops by to chat about the new book out called 75 Years Of Smiles commemorating Mort Walker's long and dedicated commitment to cartooning!Greg Walker studied at Syracuse University and has worked in film, commercial photography, newspapers and graphic arts. He started his cartooning career writing and drawing comic books, including such well-know titles as Rocky and Bullwinkle, Barney and Betty Rubble, Underdog, Sarge Snorkel and Beetle Bailey. He began providing gags to his father's strips in the early 1970's and, in addition to writing, currently does the inking and lettering on Beetle Bailey. In the 1980's, Greg also collaborated with Guy and Brad Gilchrist on the Rock Channel comic strip and with brothers Brian, Neal and Morgan on Betty Boop and Felix!About the book Beetle Bailey: 75 Years Of SmilesOld cartoonists never die. They just erase away...' This was one of Mort Walker's favorite sayings, and until his final days, he lived by his motto, engaging millions of readers through his beloved comics. Walker had the longest tenure of any cartoonist on his original creation in the history of comics. He produced Beetle Bailey for 67 years, 3 months and 12 days - that's 24,576 strips. He penciled his last week of daily strips on December 16, 2017. Beetle Bailey: 75 Years Of Smiles is a coffee table retrospective commemorating Mort Walker's long and dedicated commitment to cartooning, spotlighting the anniversary of his most popular and beloved creation. In addition to the 75 Sunday pages reproduced from color syndicate proofs, 135 daily and Sunday strips scanned from original artwork, and close to 200 additional images, this beautifully designed volume, impeccably researched and written by his son Brian, also includes rare photographs, historic debut character appearances, syndicate promotional materials, posters, merchandise, personal drawings and memorabilia from the family archives, as well as biographical sketches and anecdotes. Dubbed 'The Dean of American Cartooning,' Walker was one of the most prolific cartoonists in the comics business, with the creation of nine different syndicated strips during his lifetime, including Beetle Bailey, one of the most widely syndicated strips in the world. Beetle Bailey remains a popular feature in newspapers today and is currently produced by his sons Greg, Brian and Neal.

On today's episode I speak about a recent doctor/dentist appointments and how they were not fun, and being at the mercy of someone with a deadly hook instrument like he's the killer from that movie from last summer. While out in the real world i noticed this new transaction happening, people are putting their food on lay away or the new version of it. Which is crazy because this means we're really in a recession out here. Then i bring you back into my recession dating pool and this one as quite interesting since i met someone that was on a whole different spectrum. Literally a different one, but it was fun for I. Hopefully they enjoyed themselves as well. IMAGINARY PLAYMATES - RENE & ANGELA IMAGINARY PLAYERS - JAY Z(00:00 - 23:35)On the movie review section we talk about film movies and other things and give the worse takes. This week i speak about “ STEP IT UP 2 DA STREETS” and this movie was a fun watch… when i was in my early 20's, now as a whole adult this movie wasn't as lit as i thought it was. Good movie but it had major plot issues, like not being able to compete with an invitation. I like all of the step it up movies and this was one of my favorites you guys can definitely give it a watch and try to get your groove on as well. (23:36 - 34:22)I then jump into The Cool Report where we discuss radioactive shrimps in the stores, oh now it's a problem but when they were playing radioactive in the supermarkets it was cool. But yes yes, stay away from the shrimp leave them all for me. On the flip side of the animal kingdom a furry tried to join a real life wolf pack and it didn't go so well for them. I kind of wish i saw it ,it must have been one hell of a sight. Speaking of sight, the border site is getting a makeover. They will now make it black making it at least 5 percent cooler and casting a real dark shadow in that area. (34:23 - 46:41)We then step into a segment where the listeners ask me 3 questions about myself or just randomness. Like why have we never seen a Betty Boop shirt sold in stores, but we always see the same people wearing them around. Where are they finding these apparels because i want in lol. A YN brings up the Mandela effect, but they think it happened in 2012 but this has been going before that year if you ask me. Another character wants to know if i know that all men are secretly Bi and they feel i can answer the question because of the jokes i make. (46:42 - 59:18)Then we have 2 fans ask us a questions for PTL where we get asked the tough questions where we place ourselves in their shoes. A lover wants to know if their boyfriend is too close to there room mate, to me that's as close as one can get but that's just me. But in all fairness the actions of this scenario does cause for alarm that must be addressed right away because wow. Another Lover wants us to know that she's his first baddie and she doesn't think he knows how to handle it. I think she is wrong because most don't know that have a baddie until it ends and he's playing defense. Which to me states he had one before. (59:19 - 01:09:24)THE FINSOOOOOO i decided to add pieces of clips that didn't make it because i was half asleep while recording which made it belligerent. I also give thank to everyone that shows us love and wish y'all the best on the journey called life.(01:09:25 - 01:12:51)please continue to like, share, comment and subscribe.PEACE OUT!!!! She earned her MFHom from the Integrative School of Medicine in Bristol in 2018, later qualified through the Irish School of Homeopathy to treat animal guardians, and is currently pursuing postgraduate studies at The Dynamis School for homeopaths. Outside of her veterinary work, Emily loves music festivals, hiking, sea swimming, and traveling in her campervan with her dog. She is the proud mother of three adult children and shares her home with her dog and a “cosmic” cat named Betty Boop. Her mission is to inspire and educate more veterinarians about the power of homeopathy and to unite the profession internationally, supporting the healing of both animals and their guardians. Achoo! We're falling in love with the one and only Faith Prince. You Might Know Her From Modern Family, Emily in Paris, Melissa & Joey, Spin City, My Father the Hero, The Last Dragon, and Broadway productions of Guys & Dolls, A Catered Affair, Bells Are Ringing, and BOOP! Faith talked to us about grounding her character, Valentina, in the cartoonish plot of BOOP!, coping with fame during her star-making turn in Guys & Dolls, and leaning on her co-star Gerard Depardieu in one of her first leading roles on camera in My Father the Hero. Faith also shared stories from working as a Broadway replacement in the cumbersome costume of Ursula in The Little Mermaid and the notoriously “realistic” production of Anne as Miss Hannigan. All that, plus working with theatre legends like Jerome Robbins, Abe Burrows, Betty Comden & Adolph Green, doing dialect work at Joey Lawrence and Lily Collins, doing her best Cyndi Lauper in cult fave The Last Dragon (and making pals with Berry Gordy, and working with Jean Smart and Mary McDonnell in the short-lived High Society. Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are speaking with Josh Langsam, grandson of the great Cab Calloway. Our conversation with Josh was full of amazing family connections as well as a terrific lists of firsts from Cab Calloway that was fascinating to learn about. From fashion to language to composing and performing, Cab Calloway was both an entertainer as well as a cultural icon. While many of us knew him first from his appearance as Curtis in The Blues Brothers film, as the basis for both Jake and Elwood. While that film helped bring Cab back into popular culture, Cab's influence on popular culture in the first half of the 20th century. A song writer and performer whose song “Minnie The Moocher” sold one million copies – the first black entertainer to do so. He was also the first black entertainer to have a radio show and even was made into a cartoon in a Betty Boop short. And if that's not enough, none other than George Gershwin based the character Sportin' Life in the smash hit Porgy and Bess on Cab as well. We spoke to Josh about his grandfather's legacy and how he is working to enhance his legacy in 2025 and beyond. We spoke about Josh's plans for the estate and frankly, the what's and how's of running such an estate. We learned a lot from Josh on this episode as there was a lot to learn. So sit back and take a listen to the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.
