Better Lait Than Never
Oilers win Game 4 but lose Zach Hyman for the rest of the season

Better Lait Than Never

It's the Wednesday after the boys took care of the Dallas Stars in Game 4, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers win while also looking at what it means to lose Zach Hyman. On today's podcast, I looked at the Western Conference Final, discussed how the Oilers' depth will need to step up, Mattias Ekholm's potential return, and more.Vibes are high in Edmonton after a big win over the Stars in Game 4 to take a stranglehold on the Western Conference Final, but the victory was not without its costs. Zach Hyman was forced to leave the game early in the first period after Mason Marchment caught him with a hit he wasn't expecting, and the result is that ZMH will miss the remainder of the season and require surgery. Needless to say, this is bad news. On the flip side, if we're going to stay positive, the Oilers are incredibly deep and will need some of those guys to step up and make some magic happen in his absence. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about standing at hockey games before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was fantastic this week, and the messages were all over the map. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to most. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

It's the Wednesday after the boys dusted off the Vegas Golden Knights, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers series win while also looking back at the week that was. On today's podcast, I looked ahead to the Western Conference Final, examined how the Oilers' depth outplayed the Golden Knights, discussed Mattias Ekholm's potential return, and more. The Oilers are kicking off their third trip to the Western Conference Final in the last four seasons, and that has the city buzzing about whether our boys can get through to the big dance for a second straight season. Standing in their way is a Dallas Stars team that has rolled through the first two rounds, and it will be a significant challenge for our boys to keep their offence at bay. While many of us are understandably focused on Mikko Rantanen's playoff success, a number of Dallas' depth players have been held in check through their first eight wins, and Edmonton will need to keep those players quiet if they want to get through this series. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the podcast with a massive round of voicemails. The voicemail was very busy this week, and the messages were all over the map. Tuesday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been recorded and edited and is set to massage your ear feelings. On the Tuesday edition of the podcast, the guys previewed the Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars rematch, Mattias Ekholm's nearing a return, Kris Knoblauch's line combination changes, and more. The guys kicked off the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about how the Oilers matchup against the Dallas Stars. While many fans were nervous about the L.A. Kings and Vegas Golden Knights, a significant portion of the fan base is feeling very bullish about Round 3. Even though the Stars are a very strong hockey club, are Oilers fans feeling too confident about getting through to the Stanley Cup Final before a single game has even been played?Sticking with the Western Conference Final preview, we looked ahead at what's to come in this year's rematch against the Dallas Stars. Starting with Mattias Ekholm returning to practice with the main group, and whether that move signals his return to the lineup. Given that he hasn't played in nearly two months, does it make sense to rush him back a little bit despite the rest of the club playing as well as they are? Finally, the fellas wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a run of betting talk for our friends at bet365, keys to victory vs. the Stars, and offered a few reasons why everyone should believe the Oilers can get the job done for a second straight year in the WCF. As you'll hear, the boys feel bullish about the Oilers' chances of getting the job done, but that'll only happen if they can bring the same effort that saw them close out their first two rounds against L.A. and Vegas. Nothing is better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to recap the weekend and start your week. On the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys discussed the Masters final day, the Oilers' playoff run, and much more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with an array of random topics, including everyone's anticipation of the Oilers' playoff run and Rory McIlroy's Masters win from Sunday. Starting with the golf, the guys spoke about how awesome it was to see Rory get the grand slam after over a decade of trying to win that fourth major. Seeing as there was plenty of history about blown opportunities for Rory, watching him overcome that adversity was fantastic in every possible way. This past weekend was an incredible sports weekend, and it was a lot of fun to watch the Oilers handle their business despite being shorthanded only moments after one of the most exciting Masters finishes ever. To assess the Oilers' situation, the guys started by discussing Mattias Ekholm's season-ending injury and how that is a massive blow to Edmonton's playoff aspirations. No matter how you slice it, that is an enormous loss for an Edmonton team that has been questionable defensively all season. Sticking with the NHL, the guys discussed some of the playoff races that are still happening, with only a few games left in the schedule, including Calgary's path to the playoffs if they keep winning. As you'll hear, there are plenty of storylines to follow during this last week of the regular season, and it will be fascinating to see how everything shakes out. The only problem with the conversation is that there was a lot of math involved, so you'll want to sharpen your pencil and bring your calculators.

The Oilers suffered a tough loss last night in Pittsburgh, which meant there was plenty to discuss on the Friday episode of ONR. On today's podcast, the boys covered Evander Kane's surgery news, trade deadline rumours, Thursday's loss to the Penguins, and much more. We started the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Evander Kane undergoing another knee surgery. This will delay his rehab from former injuries and the timeline for his return to the lineup. While discussing the Kane situation, the boys became incredibly confused about the cap implications as none of them had a real idea of how this works. So, the question became whether the Oilers played this situation right or not. Did they screw up the whole situation?Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the boys covered a range of topics that have popped up over the last week. From trade rumours starting to pop up to wondering who Stan Bowman may chase at the deadline to reliving the Mattias Ekholm trade, the second segment of the Friday podcast was all over the map. Did the fellas solve anything? Not really. Did they argue about meaningless topics and moments? Absolutely yet. Finally, the boys wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot that featured some Oilers questions about topics you never expected to hear. Needless to say, the boys were all over the map. As always, the fellas gave their best advice whether they were qualified or not. Last but not least, everyone gave their best and worst moments from the last week in another round of Hot and Cold Performers.
