With Arizona leading the country again in the number of migrant encounters at the Mexican Border, we discussed it with Brandon Judd. 

The US-Mexico border is the most dangerous land frontier in the world, according to the United Nations, but it's also the one with the most crossings. Since January 2023, 2.3 million migrants have been apprehended by border police after entering the United States illegally, an all-time high that does not include migrants who got through without being arrested or taken charge of, or those who died trying to cross. The situation has become unmanageable for Texas border towns like Eagle Pass, which has become the epicentre of these illegal arrivals. Our correspondent Fanny Allard reports.

In this episode I caught up with Jack Keogh, an Australian Film Maker who has a strong  passion for the outdoors and bikepacking. Recently he combined the two when he filmed his experience of racing in the 2023 Tour Divide Race. The Tour Divide is an annual bikepacking race which follows the 2,745-mile (4,418 km) Great Divide Mountain Bike Route from Canada to the Mexican Border.  Jack's story is particularly unique in that he turned up to the event with the view of filming his experience along the way.  The output of that was an amazing documentary  - The Hardest Race on Earth: A Tour Divide Film released on YouTube. His film beautifully captures the highs and lows of ultra cycling events. From the excitement of being in jaw dropping landscapes, to the grim reality of sheltering from huge thunderstorms and having to trudge through kilometres of peanut butter mud.  I really got the feel for his passion for both documenting his experience as a filmmaker, but also just how energised he gets from being in the outdoors.Jack's first foray into the sport of BikePacking was an event called the Hunt 1000 and I couldn't help but thinking as we spoke, how cycling through that terrain in the Australian High Country was great preparation for the Tour Divide itself. Joe Sparacino is a general dentist who joins me for what may be one of the most interesting conversations I've had yet on the podcast. Dr. Joe started a large practice out of dental school down at the southern Texas border providing care to underserved kids with Medicaid. He built two large practices before selling and putting his practice proceeds into bitcoin back in 2019. He since has bought and sold four other practices and has walked away from clinical dentistry (at least for now). He has spent early retirement pursuing a passion for music, along with casually starting the company Membersy. Membersy is a dental membership technology service that has rapidly grown and is now used by many of the large DSOs. Dr. Joe is a risk-taker, a free-thinker, and very obviously driven to create and grow his ideas into something special. He currently lives in Colorado and is working on his next idea, the Happy Patient Company. This would be a service to streamline resources and remove barriers to grow practices for dentist who are looking to achieve their goals.
