Key Takeaways: It doesn't matter how old you are or what industries you've been in, every business is essentially the same - people don't know exactly what they're doing when they start out and they just figure it out as they go along. Be detail oriented in everything you do, but don't get so consumed that you're not taking the next step because of it. When working with children, the goal should be to both give them the technical skills and also the emotional tools. Creating confident kids is the ultimate end goal. It’s all a mental game, whether it’s winning an Olympic medal or creating your own business. That is how Olympic medalist, founder of Beam Queen Boot Camp, and NCAA Champion Samantha Peszek describes not only winning in sport but also in starting her own business. Beam Queen Boot Camp is a two day camp for gymnasts who want to focus on specifically beam work, and you’ll hear Samantha share her entrepreneurial journey and her best strategies for peak performance in all aspects of life and business. (4:32) “I was one of the weirdos that loved the grind. Everyday, I guess, wasn’t sunshine and rainbows but you know when I would lay my pillow down after practice I would be really proud of myself. I was able to get through a really tough practice and I knew that I was improving each day. The light at the end of the tunnel was to go to the Olympics and for me it was the chase. I had to put one foot in front of the other.” (7:54) “Gymnastics is 80% mental and so focusing on how I can get better even though I want to be training and I can’t. So that is visualization, that is the power of mind. I remember I was desperate to get my body healthy - I did everything in my power and I did acupuncture. The power of believing that your body is feeling better and you wake up and you feel a little bit better.” (17:30) “...To really change the foundation on how gymnasts really view beam. It is usually the make it or break it event. A lot of gymnast really hate the event and I had a lot of fear problems and also quit the sport because of beam. Then it became my best event and my favorite event. I feel like I have so much to give back on this event because I hear horror stories of girls saying they are going to quit because they are so afraid. So I created the Beam Queen Boot Camp.” Connect with Samantha: https://www.instagram.com/samanthapeszek/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/thegympire/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/beamqueenbootcamp/?hl=en Connect with Kelly: www.kellyroachcoaching.com www.facebook.com/kellyroachinternational www.twitter.com/kellyroachint **I have open slots for FREE 30 minute strategy sessions on my calendar for business owners who are looking to take their business online and optimize their results. 2008 Olympic Silver Medal Gymnast, Sam Peszek, summed up the simple choice presented to her over and again during the first 15 years of her life: “I can either eat the cookie and not go to the Olympics or leave it be and go to the Olympics.” This week’s guest on the WLC podcast is a little different than most of our recent guests. Samantha Peszek (pronounced Pesh-eck) doesn’t have a book or a website or a pre-made plan for how you can overcome the roadblocks you face. She has something else: the unwavering will to achieve a goal, no matter how bodacious. Samantha began her gymnastics training at age two, and played soccer and studied dance as a child as well. Gymnastics, though, won out, and by age twelve, after ten years of consistent, hard work, she became the youngest member of the US National Gymnastics Team. Although she and her teammates won many gymnastics competitions and championships, it was her 2008 Silver Medal Olympic performance that she is most proud of. 2008 Silver Medal Olympian. NCAA All-Around Champion. Hoosier turned UCLA Bruin. And now...a sports commentator. There isn't much Samantha Peszek can't do. She is a compact ball of energy that has a bright future ahead of her. Samantha grew up in Indianapolis as an elite gymnast. Once she was done competing at the elite level, she packed her bags, headed west to the University of California at Los Angeles where she killed it as a Bruin. The school recently surprised Samantha by retiring her leotard. While her heart and family remain in Indiana, she loves the healthy lifestyle that California provides from both a nutritional and fitness perspective. We sat down at Deveau's Gymnastics, the gym where she grew up, to chat with Samantha before the Olympics. She discussed overcoming mental blocks, some of her predictions for the Olympic games, and what is in store for the future. For those Instagram fans, she and Olympic teammate, Alicia Sacramone, recently launched The Gympire ('thegympire') to inspire people to keep moving. Samantha is well-articulate and smart. It was an exciting interview for Kristi Lee and Tiffany Stoner...two enormous gymnastics fans.

Full Out, the movie is based on the life of b-girl Ariana Berlin. Photo courtesy of UCLA. Ariana Berlin is happy, goofy, surprising, unique, beautiful and partially made of steel. She made her mark on college gymnastics by bringing her professional hip hop dance background onto the competition floor. Her floor routines were something totally new and sometimes controversial but always entertaining. But the road to NCAA finals almost went through the grave. "Ari" went from a being a promising level 10 gymnast, about to test for elite, to a girl in a coma, told when she woke up that she would never do gymnastics again. Though a car accident almost killed her and her mother, losing gymnastics was heartbreaking. She found solace in dance with the world famous hip hop troupe Culture Shock. A dance performance in front of UCLA head coach, Valorie Kondos-Field led her back to gymnastics. After years away from the sport, with a rod holding her femur together, Ari walked onto the UCLA gymnastics team, earned a scholarship and became one of their most consistent gymnasts of all time. While at UCLA she hit 175 of her 182 career routines (96%) without a fall, never missed a competition in 57 consecutive meets. In the final competition of her career, the former walk-on, placed fourth all-around at the 2009 NCAA Championships. We talk about the movie based on her life called, Full Out, staring Flashdance star, Jennifer Beals. We discuss: GymMyth Busters Full Out edition; we separate fact from fiction and talk about the liberties taken with her story in order to deliver a dramatic message of inspiration. Being star struck and all of the cameos: Alicia Sacramone, Jordyn Weiber, Victoria Moors, Samantha Peszek and Elfie Schlegel are all in the movie! Ariana's advice for walk-on (non-scholarship) athletes, how to get onto your dream team and what to do even if finances won't make it easy. How she became so consistent and her mental game. Dealing with the haters who claimed her ground breaking hip-hop floor choreography was cultural appropriation or racially inappropriate. In the news this week, Evan Heiter and Jessica chat about: Simone Biles going pro: Is it too soon or the perfect time to turn pro? If this will affect her preparation for Rio and which brands we want her to endorse! The first ever all adult gymnastics camp took place in July at Atlantic Gymnastics in New Hampshire.
