Jesus is the centre of our faith. The Bible is a primary witness to Jesus, which means that the Scriptures are extremely important for shaping our beliefs as a community and forming our hearts and minds. But how do we read it? It`s a big library of books with several different genres, historical contexts, etc. Our conviction is that somehow the whole library of Scripture is designed to point to Jesus, so having tools to help us make meaning g from its pages matters greatly. To that end, we will spend a few weeks in a series called: How to Read the Bible. We`ll explore both “academic” and “formational” ways of reading the Scriptures to discover how the Spirit might use our holy Text to transform us in fresh ways.
As we journey through the book of Ruth, we're reminded of God's unwavering presence in our lives, even amidst overwhelming loss and insurmountable odds. Ruth and Naomi's story teaches us that our response to life's challenges can become a powerful testimony of faith. When faced with grief and an uncertain future, Ruth chose to cling to God, declaring 'Your God will be my God.' This profound decision reminds us that our faith in the one true living God can sustain us through any circumstance. Just as God used unlikely heroes throughout Scripture - David against Goliath, Moses with his speech impediment, and fishermen as disciples - He can use us in our perceived inadequacy. When we commit to God's plan regardless of our circumstances, we open ourselves to His transformative power and allow His glory to shine through our lives.
David continues our series on 'Shaped By Scripture' with 'The Whole Story'.

In this sermon, Pastor Chris takes a look at one of the most famous passages from Scripture: David and Goliath. This story is often viewed through an underdog lens, encouraging us that we can defeat the giants in our lives. Chris offers a unique perspective that considers David's role as a shepherd, the victory we find in the Lord, and the allusion we see of Christ in this story. Jesus' death fulfilled scripture
Excerpt: We have to find a way to find our encouragement in God each and every day before we go about our day, or we will never have what we need to give out to others. One of the best ways to do that is to spend time with God before you get your day going. Scripture: David was greatly distressed; but [he] encouraged himself in the Lord his God. -1 Samuel 30:6

In this episode, David Lambert, Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, discusses his new research on the idea of Scripture, especially in the context of ancient Judaism. Professor Lambert suggests that the concept of "assemblages" is a productive way to understanding the development of, and interactions with, religious texts in antiquity. He also discusses the relevance of these ideas for contemporary interactions with the Bible, both religious and non-religious.
Brian Credille • 1 Samuel 16 • We begin a series of messages that focus on the life of one of the most important people in all of Scripture - David. From the life of David - the highs and lows, we learn so much about God, and about ourselves. In the calling and anointing of David to be King of Israel, we find that God saw in him what others did not see.
