A promessa? In this enlightening episode of the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning podcast, we delve into groundbreaking territory with Dr. Fred Jordan, CEO and co-founder of Alt Vision and FinalSpark, as he joins us from Switzerland. Dr. Jordan introduces us to a revolutionary emerging technology where living neurons—nature's own processors—are set to transform the landscape of technology and artificial intelligence. Explore how bioprocessors, derived from human stem cells using advanced lab techniques, could potentially outperform traditional semiconductor devices by significantly reducing power consumption, particularly in AI computations. Understand the implications of such innovations and the ethical considerations they entail, as we navigate a future where biocomputers might fundamentally alter our technological capabilities. Join us in opening our minds to the possibilities of neuroscience-driven tech advancements, as we discuss the practical applications and visionary future that Dr. Jordan and his team are shaping, inviting curiosity and critical thinking into our evolving technological world. Watch our Interview on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D3eKkd3L4w For today's episode #363, we meet with Dr Fred Jordan, where we looked at: ✔ What is the biocomputer? ✔ What does this NEW innovative technology, make obsolete, from our past? ✔ What are the benefits of a biocomputer, and how exactly does it work? ✔ What is the vision of FinalSpark, and how can this change the future of AI? Welcome back to SEASON 13 of The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we connect the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning and emotional intelligence training for improved well-being, achievement, productivity and results—using what I saw as the missing link (since we weren't taught this when we were growing up in school), the application of practical neuroscience. I'm Andrea Samadi, an author, and an educator with a passion for learning and launched this podcast 7 years ago now, with the goal of bringing ALL the leading experts together (in one place) to help us to APPLY this research in our daily lives. For today's episode #363, we meet with the CEO and Co-Founder of AlpVision and FinalSpark, Dr. Fred Jordan who will be joining us all the way from Switzerland. I met Dr. Jordan through LinkedIn, where he introduced his work to me, and my attention was caught. When I asked him what he does in his lab at FinalSpark, he wrote back to me that his lab has developed an emerging technology that would redefine the status quo in technology and in the ways that people work. Of course I asked him if he could explain this to me, and he wrote back that “we use living neurons, the building blocks in the brain, for processing information” and sent me the link to his website[i] where there is a live camera view of living neurons placed on electrodes, and you can see the signal from them. He went on to explain that neurons in the brain communicate using electrical and chemical stimulations and that his lab was focused on building a new generation of bioprocessors. At this point, I am sure he would know that I'm interested to learn more, mostly to understand what exactly does this mean? I wonder: Does Dr. Jordan mean that his lab is building a computer processor out of living neurons (cells from our brain)? How do they do this? What are the advantages of a bioprocessor vs using transistors (that are semiconductor devices used to amplify or switch electrical signals and power)? How does this connect to AI? What does his lab envision for the future? I have a lot of questions for Dr. Jordan, and I am coming from the point of view that I really want to learn and understand what his lab has created. I want to be able to explain his idea to our audience in a way that we can all come away with some new knowledge and understanding about the future, and how keeping an open mind while learning can set us apart from others, and even give us a razor's edge advantage in whatever work we are doing in the world. Let's meet Dr. Fred Jordan, and together, learn about the work they are doing at FinalSpark in Switzerland, and see if it can expand of thinking, and take us to new heights with the new awareness we will gain today. INTRO Q: Welcome Dr. Fred Jordan. Thank you for reaching out to me, and opening up my mind to something that while writing these questions, I still didn't completely understand. Can you explain what exactly is a biocomputer and why would anyone want to have a computer that uses living neurons instead of transistors to process information? Q1: As someone who loves entrepreneurship, or those people in the world who create new ideas that change the world, can you tell me how where this idea began? Q2: I did listen to one of your podcast episodes[ii] about “The Future of AI: How Biocomputers Will Change Everything” so I could wrap my head around what you do at FinalSpark, and it brought me to something I heard longevity researcher Dr. David Sinclair say that I will never forget. He said “we can make a mouse in a lab out of stem cells.” Can you explain where these neurons come that you are using come from and also help me to understand what Dr. Sinclair meant when he said they can make a mouse out of stem cells? Q3: For someone who doesn't have a formal background in science, but I want to learn difficult concepts, and be able to explain them to others, can you explain how these living neurons work? Q4: What is the advantage of using a biocomputer and what problems does this solve? They consume 1 million X less than digital computers, quantum computers still in R&D stage Q5: What industries will be changed with the biocomputer? (semi-conductor industry) or what other applications can you think of that this type of computer can have (maybe medical applications)? Q6: What types of feedback are you hearing about the biocomputer? Do people think it's acceptable to use living neurons for computation? Q7: Who are the leaders in this type of research? What other countries do you know of, where labs are working on this type of computer? Q8: What Universities have approached you to learn more about this neuro-platform? Q9: What is your vision for FinalSpark, and how do you think this will change the future workforce? Q10: This topic made me think and I found it difficult to grasp, but am very interested in learning more about how this concept could change everything that we know about the way we work and use computers. What would you say to me to show me that having an open mind will set me apart from others, or give me an advantage maybe in the future? Q11: Is there anything I have missed, or anything important that our listeners should know about?  Dr. Jordan, I want to thank you for taking the time to speak with me about what you have created at FinalSpark. I'm very interested in NEW ideas, especially those that will change the way we operate and live our lives, exponentially. I remember hearing a quote from Gordon Moore, Intel's co-founder and the author of Moore's law many years ago in reference to the fact that “the number of transistors in an integrated circuit doubles roughly every 2 years” and this trend has driven the exponential growth of computing power and efficiency , leading to faster processors and smaller devices. He said “frankly, I didn't expect to be so precise” with his prediction. What do you think when you have the power of the biocomputer, and George Moore's quote, of the potential of what you have created at FinalSpark? For people to connect with you and learn more, what is the best way? A Note from James: I've done about a dozen podcasts in the past few years about anti-aging and longevity—how to live to be 10,000 years old or whatever. Some great episodes with Brian Johnson (who spends $2 million a year trying to reverse his aging), David Sinclair (author of Lifespan and one of the top scientists researching aging), and even Tony Robbins and Peter Diamandis, who co-wrote Life Force. But Peter just did something incredible. He wrote The Longevity Guidebook, which is basically the ultimate summary of everything we know about anti-aging. If he hadn't done it, I was tempted to, but he knows everything there is to know on the subject. He's even sponsoring a $101 million XPRIZE for reversing aging, with 600 teams competing, so he has direct insight into the best, cutting-edge research. In this episode, we break down longevity strategies into three categories: common sense (stuff you already know), unconventional methods (less obvious but promising), and the future (what's coming next). And honestly, some of it is wild—like whether we can reach "escape velocity," where science extends life faster than we age. Peter's book lays out exactly what's possible, what we can do today, and what's coming. So let's get into it. Episode Description: Peter Diamandis joins James to talk about the future of human longevity. With advancements in AI, biotech, and medicine, Peter believes we're on the verge of a health revolution that could drastically extend our lifespans. He shares insights from his latest book, The Longevity Guidebook, and discusses why mindset plays a critical role in aging well. We brought some joyful and fluid-tastic vibes to this great episode! The main topic involved us picking our jaws off the floor as records were absolutely annihilated at the JFK 50 Mile, America's oldest ultramarathon. We have some inside info on how David Sinclair set the record, which we think could be Ultra Performance of the Year. Plus we worship the queen, Rachel Drake. Why are we seeing record after record get smashed at every major race? The answer likely lies at the intersection of training, shoes, and most of all--fueling. We also talked about a breakthrough new study from the Boston Marathon. Researchers found that the prevalence of low energy availability indicators was associated with worse performance and health outcomes. Find your strong, and you will find your fast! And this one was full of fun topics! With special guest: David Sinclair PhD AO… in conversation with Bill Kable Lifespan: Why We Age – and Why We Don’t Have To is a visionary book in a fast moving field. In fact when we talk to Dr David Sinclair for today’s program we discover that there have been some amazing developments in the scientific research of aging even since the book was written. The immediate response of some people to aging research is that death at a certain age is the natural order of things. Perhaps you might hear that someone has had a look at old age and now does not want to lengthen this time in that person’s life. But would we want to go back to the time not so long ago when life expectancy was more like 40 than the current 80? What if by controlling aging we could reduce rather than extend time spent in total dependency in a nursing home? Podcast (mp3)

Today, I'm going to tell you about some important foods and nutrients that should be part of a healthy diet for people over 50. Dr. David Sinclair, an expert on longevity, has researched longevity genes called sirtuins. NAD can increase sirtuins! NAD is derived from niacin. It works inside your mitochondria, converting food to energy. As we age, our NAD decreases. Many people take supplements and get injections to boost NAD. Dr. Abram Hoffer wrote a book about the diseases caused by too little niacin and how many diseases can be cured with mega doses. He's one of the doctors who started the Orthomolecular Medicine Group, which used high doses of nutrients to create therapeutic dosages. The following foods can increase NAD and should be part of a healthy diet for people over 50: 1. Beef liver 2. Grass-fed red meat 3. Probiotic-rich foods—raw sauerkraut, yogurt 4. Parsley (celery or chamomile tea can also work) 5. Curcumin—turmeric 6. Quercetin—onions 7. Omega-3 fatty acids—wild-caught fatty fish, cod liver Sulforaphane, found in cruciferous vegetables, is also beneficial for healthy aging. Broccoli sprouts and radish sprouts are great to add to salads! Anthocyanins, found in blue and purple foods like blueberries, blackberries, and purple cabbage, are also good for anti-aging. Dr. Sinclair shares his groundbreaking research on the role of epigenetic changes in aging and the potential to reverse this process. He explains how lifestyle factors, such as diet and exercise, can greatly impact our longevity, and highlights the importance of regularly monitoring health markers like blood glucose and cholesterol. Dr. Sinclair emphasizes the power of technology, including blood tests and personalized health tracking, to help individuals live healthier, longer lives. The conversation also dives into cutting-edge research on longevity drugs and therapies, including gene therapy and reprogramming cells to a younger state. This concept, known as epigenetic aging, involves cells losing their ability to read the right genes at the right time. As cells age, they lose their identity, leading to aging and age-related diseases. The exciting part of this discovery is that these changes may be reversible. Dr. Sinclair's research focuses on reprogramming cells to restore their youthful function, potentially turning back the biological clock and extending healthspan and lifespan.Lifestyle Choices Are Key to LongevityDavid Sinclair emphasizes that simple lifestyle choices—like diet, exercise, and regular health monitoring—can have a profound impact on both healthspan and lifespan. He stresses the importance of moving regularly, avoiding processed foods, and maintaining a healthy weight. These actions, along with monitoring key biomarkers such as glucose and cholesterol, are crucial in delaying the onset of age-related diseases. Sinclair's father, who at 85 is in excellent health, serves as a prime example of how these practices can help people live healthier, longer lives.Reversing Aging with Genetic ReprogrammingOne of the most exciting advances in aging research is the potential to reverse aging at the cellular level through genetic reprogramming. Dr. Sinclair discusses his work using a combination of three genes—known as OSK—that can restore cells to a more youthful state. This breakthrough technology has already shown success in animals and is now being tested in humans. The hope is that genetic reprogramming could be used to treat age-related diseases, such as blindness, by resetting the clock on damaged cells, potentially revolutionizing the way we treat aging and extending human healthspan.  We Appreciate You!As a token of our gratitude, we're excited to offer you 15% off your next purchase. The Harvard geneticist sold a fake miracle pill to GlaxoSmithKline for $720,000,000, and now wants the world to believe that he has discovered a new immortality molecule. Everyone wants to live a long and healthy life. No one wants to die. The oldest scam in history is the longevity lie. The first writing recorded on Sumerian clay tablets recounts the story of Gilgamesh's failed quest to bring his friend back from the dead. The immutable fact of mortality has dogged human kind since its very beginning. And yet every age has brought with it its own crop of magicians, alchemists and scientists promising eternal life. Their pitch is always the same: everyone who came before them was a charlatan, but they have the secret sauce. The most famous longevity grifter of our age is no different. If you've ever heard a news story that a glass of red wine might make you live longer, it was because of his groundbreaking research. Harvard geneticist David Sinclair is one of the most decorated scientists on the planet. He's listed as an author on more than 500 papers, his work has been cited more than 96,000 times and he holds 50 patents. He was the editor of the journal Aging. Resume aside, David Sinclair is no different than any other health grifter throughout the ages, and great fortunes have been squandered in pursuit of his “science.” In this week's video I dive into his 25 year history of scientific mistakes, lies and fraud. I show how he used disproven research on the chemical “resveratrol” to sell a best selling book and, ultimately, a company to the pharmaceutical drug maker GlaxoSmithKlein for $720,000,000. Two years after the sale, the research was proven to not work, and Sinclair became one of the richest scientists in America. Now, ten years after that work fell apart, Sinclair is at it again selling the idea of a new immortality molecule called NMN. This video took me three weeks to put together, but it was worth the wait.

A Note from James:I particularly want to reverse my aging. I'm not concerned about being able to run a mile or anything like that; I just want to reverse the aging of my brain. I feel there's a definite difference between my brain now and when I was younger. By the way, culturally, we acknowledge that the brain ages. Not only medically, but culturally, you have to adapt to being the wise older person rather than the sharp young person. We had a great conversation with Arthur Brooks about this. He wrote an excellent book, which I can't recommend enough, called "From Strength to Strength." That podcast with Arthur Brooks changed my life in how I view my brain aging. Additionally, several podcasts with David Sinclair about the aging process have also been life-changing.I have used the supplements he recommended and made the lifestyle changes he suggested back in 2019.
