To lead meaningful and effective lives, we need to make sense of truths that appear to contradict each other, and that's what this 6-part series of podcasts is all about. Each episode in the series seeks to improve our relationship and life skills by helping us find “the middle way,” or the balance between two truths that appear contradictory but actually aren't.   So, in this episode, Roy discusses MASCULINE and FEMININE. These energies (they aren't genders) hold the key to attraction, chemistry, and a great sex life!   But balance is not the goal as it has been in the other episodes in this series. Rather, the goal here is how to magnify your lead energy and diminish the other. It's a fascinating topic and one you don't want to miss.   You will learn… …what masculine and feminine mean in a relationship context; …what the toxic masculine and toxic feminine are and how to tell them apart; …how and why we can end up in “the friend zone”; …how to make sense of the trans/gender controversy; …how to display your masculine or feminine in an irresistible way; …and much, much more!   Additional Resources Roy may have mentioned on the show:   Roy's Website: https://coachingwithroy.com   Roy's Relationship Fitness Self-Assessment Test: https://coachingwithroy.com/the-relationship-fitness-self-test/   Roy's 3 Books: ·      Relationship Bootcamp: https://amzn.to/360UsMR ·      Attracting Lasting Love: http://amzn.to/1UnYeYh ·      A Drink with Legs: https://amzn.to/31UBl3K     Roy's Group Coaching Program: https://coachingwithroy.com/group-coaching/   Roy's Complimentary 45-min. In this episode, we're joined by Kate Bowler, PhD. as we continue our chapter-by-chapter exploration of Falling Upward with Chapter 4: "The Tragic Sense of Life." Kate, along with Richard and CAC staff delve into the flaws of the prosperity gospel as well as the importance of finding meaning in suffering. We explore the ways in which love and suffering intertwine, urging honesty during life's hardships, and celebrate the power of community, especially its irreplaceable gift of "unchosen" love. Before we dive in to the interview, staff from the CAC catch up with Richard at his hermitage to hear his reflections on the third chapter a decade after he originally wrote it. Kate Bowler, PhD is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, award-winning podcast host, and an Associate Professor of American Religious History at Duke University. She studies the cultural stories we tell ourselves about success, suffering, and whether (or not) we're capable of change. She is the author of Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel and The Preacher's Wife: The Precarious Power of Evangelical Women Celebrities. After being unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage IV cancer at age 35, she penned the New York Times bestselling memoir, Everything Happens for a Reason (and Other Lies I've Loved) and No Cure For Being Human (and Other Truths I Need to Hear). She lives in Durham, North Carolina with her family and continues to teach do-gooders at Duke Divinity School. Resources: A PDF of the transcript for this episode is available here. I had the delight of welcoming the brilliant Joy Clarkson, an American author, podcaster, and editor based in the UK. In a world dominated by technological metaphors and a rapid pace of life, she shares wonderful insights, reflections, and inspiration from her latest book "You Are A Tree." Joy joined me on the Gospel Spice podcast for a thought-provoking conversation about the power of metaphors in capturing the intangible aspects of life, finding resilience in times of upheaval, and embracing the poetry of everyday experiences. Joy Clarkson beautifully expounds on the significance of metaphors in illuminating the intangible aspects of life. She draws a compelling comparison to light as a metaphor for wisdom and guidance in her book. She reveals her desire to bring flavor and richness to people's lives, much like salt brings out existing flavors in food. Joy's aspiration for her book is to intensify and flavor life, leaving people in awe of the poetry of life and the deep meaning woven into everyday experiences. Through her work, she encourages readers to slow down, pay attention, and savor the richness of life around them. In our discussion, Joy challenges the paradigm of equating human beings to machines, emphasizing the resilience and complexity of humans. She contrasts the organic nature of humans with the mechanical consistency of machines. Joy artfully weaves these insights into the metaphor of human beings as more akin to organic organisms, specifically comparing them to the resilience and growth of trees. This fresh perspective stands in stark contrast to a culture dominated by machine and computer metaphors, encouraging readers to appreciate their own resilience and organic nature. I must take a moment to praise the beautiful writing of Joy Clarkson and the book's ability to prompt readers to desire and experience the world around them. Drawing on this metaphorical culinary journey, Joy illuminates the significance of the book's title. She reveals her belief that her book has the potential to draw out the existing richness and flavors of life, leaving people with a more profound appreciation for the everyday experiences that God has intricately woven with meaning. In this context, the metaphor of the tree signifies resilience and the potential for growth, guiding readers to embrace their own capacity for resilience, growth, and rootedness. The conversation expands as we explore how Joy managed to write her book during a time of personal upheaval. She vulnerably shares how she embraced resilience and found inspiration during a challenging season of life, highlighting her ability to slow down and pay attention to the richness and meaning in everyday experiences. Choosing to draw strength from her surroundings, she surrendered to the process and found resilience in the form of a metaphorical journey, paralleling the growth and rootedness of a tree. This recounting adds depth to the metaphorical exploration within her book. Joy Clarkson's enlivening conversation on the Gospel Spice podcast beautifully illustrates the power of metaphors in conveying the richness of life and finding resilience in times of upheaval. Through the lens of the metaphorical and organic, readers are invited to slow down, savor life, and appreciate their own resilience. Embracing Joy's poignant insights, we are challenged to see the poetry in our everyday experiences and to draw inspiration from the resilience and growth of the trees that surround us, witnessing the beauty of our own metaphorical journey. Here are some key takeaways from our conversation:

The pandemic made all her problems worse: she was isolated and depressed. Stuck scrolling the internet for horrible news, both global and personal. People were either terrified or bored, or a heady mixture of both. It was a weird time. Alcohol turned from a way of making everything a party into making everything bearable. A worrying turning point.  She got better through therapy, and journaling through comics. Comics are how she make sense of the world. Making comics about her life helps her work out how she is feeling about things, and she realised she was feeling pretty awful about her relationship with alcohol. She's feeling a lot happier now.! The world is full of injustice and non of us like it. After defining justice as it means to God, and giving examples of what justice is not, Pastor Sue explores the story of the woman caught in adultery found in John 8. From international relations to our interpersonal relationships Sue applies biblical principles to Gods call on Christians to bring light into the world in the form of spiritual warfare - salvation and a repentant life of humble reliance on God. She concludes that we need to trust in the saving grace of Jesus - no pretence, just accepting Jesus our advocate and rejecting the kingdom of darkness.
