The party hopes to escape the sound of dragon wings by checking out the cave at Ramblecoats where supposedly Aldond first came across Aurumordic. But inside the cave there is a Shadow Crossing to the Shadowfell. A female voice emanates from the rift and the Raven Queen distracts everyone long enough for Thera to get a seemingly fatal blow on Sonya. When Ciran, in a mad rage, stabs Thera she begins transforming into an Avatar of Bhaal- the Ravager. Jendal pops his potion of Giant Strength and wrestles with the Ravager. Refusing to kill the Ravager, the group escapes to outside of the falls where they run face to face with the Shadow Dragon, Griff. And The Ravager comes up from behind. Thera tells the dragon to unleash its breath weapon, but Adon's new-found friend, Thiasce ("Hash-ca") blocks the blast. And just when everyone thinks they have met their end Ciran finds something on the banks of the River...

Our usual cross-generational grab bag this time includes 2009's Brütal Legend , an action-adventure that's actually an RTS, and no one's favourite Bond game, From Russia With Love , a shooter that's actually a horror game as it turns out! Pavlos shares tales of playing multiplayer games on the Switch with non-gaming-affine friends and recounts the wonders to be gleaned from seeing gaming literacy develop, a process all of us have undergone and that has faded from our memories. And is that the sound of a relatively recent new video game being discussed I hear? Why, yes, as if one game of the week wasn't enough, we collectively and extensively sing the praises of Paradise Killer , a highly original detective game set in a shiny Vaporwave nightmare setting that you should check out, nenorocito! But that does not replace our actual spotlight title for the episode, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light , a game both old and new at the same time. A landmark title for tactical RPGs on the Famicom, the first in Intelligent Systems' now long-running series, the twice-remade debut never saw a Western release until last year. It benefits from various quality-of-life improvements which mostly speed up the the gameplay and provide rollback options – a welcome addition to a sometimes obtuse and often challenging experience –, giving everyone an opportunity to investigate the roots of a beloved Nintendo series. We break down its systems and many innovations therein, but also highlight the equally numerous shortcomings that stick out, particularly with later iterations in mind. Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light harkens back to a simpler time; a period of peace, it takes place in the pre-waifu era just before the evil wizard Anime broke free from his prison and laid waste to the lands, consuming everything in his path. No trace of that here, and that's real justice served. We start this week’s show talking about the Dwarven Castle battle where you fight Golbez and his Shadow Dragon. This is a re-run of an old fight, so it’s not too tough. Shadow Dragon will deal lethal fixed damage to one unit every turn, so keep an eye out for that. The rewards aren’t anything special, but some players might still find Shadow Dragon scale’s +30 MAG to be useful. Moving onto Akstar’s (Tomoe’s really) story event: Out for Vengeance. First, make sure to do the Akstar unit intro quest for the free goodies and to have a look at Akstar’s CG movie, it’s pretty cool! Following a brief discussion about the story and the items you can get from completing it, we discuss the units on the banner: Majora, Gravey, Tomoe, Akstar, and Zeno of the Beta Star. Gravey has an amazing TMR, Akstar comes out unchanged from his JP counterpart, and Zeno, the new global exclusive unit surprises everyone by being a true dial wield monster.
