**NOTE: We advise watching the video for this episode* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJdzDKfUTQ0 With the releasing of the "Party in a Box" for Smoke Inn's 2021 The Great Smoke (TGS), many media people have been doing unboxing videos. Sorry to disappoint you, but we won't be using a knife to show you opening up the mailing carton. Instead, we will be focusing on the 40 cigars included in the TGS Party in the Box. Yes - all 40 of them. The goal is to tell people more about what cigars are included. We'll give the background and the stories behind each of them. Producer's Note: The E.P. Carrillo cigar is the New Wave Connecticut, not the New World Reserva. We apologize for that error.

This week, #ELOsoFumarTakes welcomes Abe Dababneh to sit down for #112thTake. These are trying times for the industry. And, a Pandemic is going on. It's no laughing matter, small business owners make up a large part of our treasured industry and as communities are coming together in big ways, the cigar business is still suffering. Dababneh sits atop a retail operation whose many locations are nestled and woven parts of their communities. KMA Talk Radio's voice and reach capture the pulse of the cigar industry in a very real way. We sit down with Abe to talk serious business with a serious businessman. Don't worry, there will be some levity as well. Enjoy! I buy very few boxes and this was one of the few in 2011. "The Oasis"> E.P. Carillo 2011 Limitada - "Dark Rituals" - My favorite EPC release to date. Great balance, complexity, and quality. "Box Worthy" Paul Garmirian Symphony 20 (2011) Short Robusto - A great stick that just pours smoke and flavor. I prefer the Short Robusto to the larger sizes. I found the Salomone to have a little too much strength and a little less flavor. "Box Worthy" Tatuaje M80 - Wow! wish I had grabbed a box of these. Great flavor, strength, and construction. "Box Worthy" Tatuaje La Verite 2009 Robusto - Nice mix of wood, spice, and cream. Again I preferred the Robusto to the Churchill. "Box Worthy" Liga Privada Unico Serie L40 - I love everything Liga Privada! Nuff Said! "Box Worthy" J. Grotto Serie Reserve Gran Corona - Wood, Spice, and cream. Love this stick. "Box Worthy" Tatuaje TAA - I wish I had grabbed more of these while they were still available. Nice unique flavor profile. "The Fiver" Tatuaje Black Petit Lancero - My favorite vitola in the black series. I cannot wait until Pete does some other vitola's. "The Fiver" Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial (2011) - I love the new size this year. it is working for me. "The Fiver" Other Stuff We've Been Smoking Paul's List: Arturo Fuente Short Story Maduro - I think this may have the best flavors of all the maduro hemming way sticks, smooth, TONS of flavor, great burn. A winner! Supposed Vintage Pre-Embargo Cuban - So, I was expecting some cuban flavors of some kind, but just didn't get that. It was a well-aged stick with nice flavors, but I don't think it was Cuban. Illusione Mk Ultra - Strength, but lacking on flavors. A Real Cuban (vintage) San Cristobol De La Habana - Torpedo - Soooooo, good. Best stick I've smoked in some time. Tim's List La Riqueza No. 1 by Tatuaje - Wow! Wow! Wow! Check out the review. Nuff said. Paul Garmirian Reserva Exclusiva Corona Extra - Another incredible smoke I recently reviewed. Fantastic medium bodied smoke with a Cuban like flavor profile. In the end, my first "The Oasis" rating given on the site. Unbanded - LFD Chisel Double Ligero (2003) - A gift given to me my stogie santa during the last recording. This stick still has some power after all this time. Unbanded - Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Toro (2nd) from 2009 - Something was so wrong with this stick. I have had RP Vintage 1990 before and never have experienced such bitter or sourness. I had to give the "Lawn Mulch".
Dale is on vacation so executive producer Liz joined Bob for this week's show. Liz and Bob discuss her journey to becoming a cigar smoker and lessons learned along the way. The featured 'Cigar of the Week' is the 22o N / 83o W by Jesus Fuego. Roger from Texas calls in on the herf line to ask a humidor question. Since Liz knows all of the cigars scheduled for the 'What's My Band?' blind smoke test, it was not included in this week's show. 'What's My Band?' will be back next week when Dale returns. Check out the live show! Go to http://www.cigarmedia.tv/live/ where the show is broadcast live most Friday evenings at 9 PM EST. Cigar of the Week - Oliva Connecticut Reserve What else have you been smokin' Liz? Jesus Fuego’s 22o N / 83o W – The pre-smoke aroma was a light cedar and the first draw tasted like seasoned wood. Then I got a great cocoa flavor. This cigar is just right for my palate and has been added to my favorites list. EP Carrillo New Wave Connecticut – I find that I enjoy Connecticut wrappers and this one fits the bill. A mild cigar with cedar flavor. San Lotano Maduro – The first draw gave me slight sweetness which I love in a cigar. This is a smooth cigar with great cocoa flavor that is not spicy or harsh to my palate. Xikar HC – This great cigar is another one that is blended by Jesus Fuego. It contains all of my favorites: woodsy, coffee and later on, cocoa. Elogio – One of my absolute favorites. I taste sweetness with the first puff, then a deep cocoa. It has a little spice and the smoke feels slightly creamy on the inside of my mouth. After all of my feedback on the cigars that I smoked this week, can you tell what my flavor profile is? What else have you been smokin' Bob? Anarchy - one of the MicroBlend Series from Smoke Inn by Pete Johnson In the Spring of 2009 Smoke Inn owner, Abe Dababneh, approached Pete Johnson with the Tatuaje Anarchy project idea. The hope was to create something special in a limited run. The size is something never seen before and symbolic of the movement. The cigar is made with a very limited leaf of Ecuadorian Habano Wrapper that Pete and the Garcia Family hand selected. Dark, rich and oily, this cigar exudes character and dissonance. The flavors are smooth although bold and exciting. Is it Anarchy in a cigar, yes because of its origins and no because of its flavors which are spot on terrific. Padron 1926 Maduro No 1, 54x6 3/4 - Every time I smoke one of these I kick myself for not having bought three or four of the samplers being offered at the Nicaraguan airport that day. You see, buying the samplers you get these cigars at an incredible discount to their shelf price in the US, making them slide from luxury to “you deserve this” status. One of the great smokes of our times and one of the best ever from Padron. This cigar delivers bold flavors in a smooth smoke that comes from a cigar that is beautiful - not like a model, but rather in a craftsman sort of way - with each cigar showing some little sign of being handcrafted. The tobacco shows that it has earned its status and not inherited it. Released in 2002 to commemorate the 75th birthday of Jose Orlando Padron, family patriarch and guiding light of Padron Cigars. Originally offered in 4 sizes it has since been extended to six sizes. Elogio LSV Corona Extra - For my sake I am glad the rest of you have not discovered the Elogio cigars because when you do they will get scarce. I got a fresh box from Winston's Humidor this week and have I been missing these cigars. Unique spicy flavors on a bed of wood and roasted hops, the slight bitterness really drives the other dominant flavors. Full flavored and medium-to-full bodied this cigar delivers nothing but flavor from its well aged, Nicaraguan tobaccos. Masterfully blended and carefully constructed - these are masterpieces. What's My Band? - will return next week. Palio Cutter Contest: Steve Morgan from Alabama won the July contest and received a classic black Palio cutter. Enter the August contest now to win a silver cutter. Remember, you must re-enter each month to be eligible to win the featured Palio cutter. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv. This week Bob and Dale are joined by cigar connoisseur Craig Schneider. Cigar ER Doc calls in and shares his review of the Lou Rodriguez Bom Bom. Listener Brian Parent asks about recommendations for his flavor profile. As a follow up to the July 2nd DWCR episode, George Edmonson sends in an email clarifying HR 1639's (Traditional Cigar Manufacturing and Small Business Jobs Preservation Act of 2011) definition of traditional premium cigars. The Cigar of the Week is the Monte Pascoal Minuto. The cigar featured on the "What's My Band?" blind smoke test is the Vegas de Santiago Toro Maduro in the Puro series. A special thanks to listener Magnus Stensson in Australia for sending in the cigar samples used in this week's unbanded segment. Check out the live show! Go to http://www.cigarmedia.tv/live/ where the show is broadcast live most Friday evenings at 9 PM EST. Cigar of the Week - Monte Pascoal Minuto (4 ⅜ x 42) Wrapper: Brazil Mata Fina Binder: Brazil Mata Fina Filler: Brazil Mata Fina and Mata Norte Box of 25 What else have you been smokin' Dale? Camacho Liberty 2005 - This year’s Independence Day celebratory cigar! With 6 years of age, I was expecting great things, and I was not disappointed. Opening the red, white & blue flag theme individual coffin, I see an 11/18 size cigar wrapped in tissue paper. Upon removing the tissue, I was greeted with a plume covered stick, still glistening from the oily dark wrapper. Flavors were typically Camacho, with a very smooth earthy character. Cane sugar sweetness underscored the peaty, smokey core. Deep leather, toasted almond and malted barley flavors danced around each puff. Very full bodied and bold, but age has tempered the Camacho strength. Truly a magnificent cigar befitting the occasion! Gurkha Beauty - I received another of these in a sampler pack. My opinion remains the same, a really good medium bodied cigar but the large ring size is not comfortable for me. Calle Ocho Churchill 7” x 50 - Also arriving in a sampler pack, this cigar left me wanting more. The light wrapper and mild-med blend wasn’t unpleasant, but just lacked in balanced flavor and excitement. Good construction, great burn and a nice herbal room aroma were the only highlights..... and the price is low - can be found for around $40 per bundle of 20. Made in Nicaragua with Nicaraguan fillers & binder and wrapped with a Ecuadorian grown Sumatra leaf. Padilla Series ‘68 Golden Bear 6” x 60 - Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper over a Nicaraguan filler blend of Jalapa and Condega grown tobaccos. This line has been consistently outstanding, and although I don’t prefer the 60 ring gauge, the cigar was excellent! The wrapper is a dark reddish color and provides a molasses sweetness to the smoke. Coffee, cedar, lemon and light spice notes accentuated the core of toasted, well aged tobacco flavors. A creamy, thick full bodied smoke with great complexity. What else have you been smokin' Bob? El Hijo - A Smoke Inn exclusive. The complete run was only 650 boxes, packed 15 cigars to a box. The stick will retail $9.75 ea / $146 a box. This is an amazing smoke and offered in such limited quantities. My Father cigars has continued to grow and sophisticate over the years. There is nothing lost from the orginal Cuban classics but much gained in the added smoothness, fine tobacco, excellent construction and a burn that goes for days. Great smoke. Thank you Abe Dababneh, proprietor of Smoke Inn, for sending these outstanding smokes for Bob to experience! What else have you been smokin' Craig? Quesada Espana Robusto - If I was writing a top 10 list for 2011, this would be included on it. The ‘young ones’ have proven their maturity with this outstanding new blend that is making an impression throughout the industry. Expect that at the upcoming IPCPR convention, Quesada’s booth will be all a flutter with people interviewing & trying to get the new scoop on this hot new product from the Dominican Republic. Ashton La Aroma de Cuba - Mi Amor Robusto - What a little rocket! I love this blend and think of it as perhaps my favorite blend out of the My Father factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. A must try that will always have a place in my humidor. J. Fuego - 777 Maduro - Yumm!!! What's My Band? - this week's Unbanded Cigar is the Vegas de Santiago Toro Maduro which was provided by listener Magnus Stensson. Thanks Magnus! Bob: Very nice cigar with a touch of spice on a solid leather foundation. It was a little tough getting smoke out of this at times but over alll I really enjoyed it. This week's show features an interview with Sam Leccia of the recently launched Sam Leccia Cigar Company. On What's hot? What's not? What's next? Liz interviews Abe Dababneh, proprietor of South Florida's six (soon to be seven) Smoke Inn locations. The Cigar of the Week is the Partegas Cifuentes. The cigar featured on the "What's My Band?" blind smoke test is the Siglo Limited Reserve VII. Check out the live show! Go to http://www.cigarmedia.tv/live/ where the show is broadcast live most Friday evenings at 9 PM EST. Cigar of the Week - Partegas Cifuentes from General Cigar. The Partagas Cifuentes Blend is a limited-availability extension to the Partagas portfolio of cigars. It builds upon the legacy of Ramon Cifuentes by introducing a cigar specially blended for the Fall season by Ramon’s protégés, Daniel Nunez and Benji Menendez. Cifuentes Seasonal Blend cigars are medium-to-full bodied, rich in flavor, and use a special Honduran Medio-Tiempo wrapper, as well as Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos. What else have you been smokin' Dale? Arganese ML3 Torpedo - 6 ⅞” x 52, Corojo binder & filler in a Brazilian maduro wrapper. Cocoa, espresso and creamy. Not quite as preferred by Dale as the CL3, but a good cigar that never really got any traction. Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic 1979 Robusto - 5” x 50, All Nica tobacco using a Corojo wrapper. Earthy, with cedar, black pepper and a molasses sweetness on the finish. J. Fuego 777 Maduro Robusto (White Label) - 5” x 50, Nica puro with Corojo blend and a Criollo maduro wrapper. Full bodied & full flavored with spice and maduro richness. I hope Jesus never stops producing these! What else have you been smokin' Bob? Esencia Lancero - One of the rarest of Esencia cigars, this delightful lancero brings back the soft glow of gas lights, the hum of a 57 Chevy and the sound of Cuban music wafting through the streets of Havana. It does not taste just like a Cuban but it does take my imagination and my soul back to a simpler time. The flavors are all fresh, complex and yet it's so easy to smoke. Perhaps the most poignant of the series. East Ender - A thoughtful gift from a listener that turned out to be a worthwhile smoke. Although a little rough around the edges it hit the mark for age, leather and a bit woodsy. Monte Pascoal Figurado - Tapering to a fat 60+ ring guage in the middle, this smoke continued to deliver clean bright flavors all the way through. Typical Monte Pascoal flavors of straw and age that are highlighted by mellow leather and oak What's My Band? - this week's Unbanded Cigar is the Siglo Limited Reserve VII.
