Our guest today is Dr. Dee Stephenson, a luminary in the field of ophthalmology. She has been in private practice since 1989 in Venice, Florida. She specializes in cataract surgery and has been at the forefront of research as the President of the American Board of Eye Surgery and as a past president of ACES (American College of Eye Surgeons). She is a founding member of ASPENS and AECOS. She is a force in the field, advocating for gender equality and serving as a role model for the next generation of ophthalmologists. To begin, Dr. Stephenson shares how she began her career in ophthalmology. During medical school, she assisted the chairman of the ophthalmology department at USF in his research on glaucoma and cataracts. Dr. Stephenson attended medical school at USF and ophthalmology school at USC in Columbia, South Carolina. She shares the valuable lesson her second mentor taught her about being a kind human being and doctor. Now, she has instilled the habit of calling each and every patient the night before and the day of their cataract surgery to soothe their nerves and worries. During the beginning stages of her practice back in Florida, Dr. Stephenson did many penetrative corneal transplants. She shares what outpatient surgery was most commonly like during that time. In 2007, Dr. Stephenson became the first person to purchase ORA commercially. The technology was a total game-changer for her practice because it took a reading of the eye, magnetized the astigmatism, calculated implants, and signaled where incisions needed to be made. This made Dr. Stephenson realize that 80% of her patients have astigmatism. While she has been introduced to other technologies since then, she still uses ORA in her practice today. She believes that the most exciting thing about ophthalmology is that it is an industry that is always changing. Dr. Stephenson shares that she has been a member of ACES since she was just 25 years old. Since its beginning, ACES has been an organization of people who want to think outside the box and prove the importance of innovation to the field. Çünki, bu âyet-i kerîme, harâmlardan afv olunabilecek özrü beyân buyurmakdadır. Fâiz ile ödünç almak için, her ihtiyâc özr olsaydı, fâizin harâm edilmesine sebeb kalmazdı. Çünki, fâiz ödemeği, ancak ihtiyâcı olan kabûl eder. İhtiyâcı olmıyan kimse, açıkdan para vermek istemez. Allahü teâlânın, bu yasak emri, yersiz lüzûmsuz olurdu. Allahü teâlânın kitâbına, böyle iftirâ edilemez. Abes, yersiz, birşey bulunması düşünülemez. Her ihtiyâcı olanın fâiz ile para alması câiz diye, bir ân düşünsek, ihtiyaç da, bir nevi zarûretdir. Zarûretin dereceleri vardır. Ziyâfet vermek için, fâiz ile para almak ihtiyâc değildir. Meyyitin bırakdığı malda meyyitin ihtiyâcı, kefen ve cenâze masrafı olduğu kitâblarda bildiriliyor. Onun rûhu için, ziyâfet vermeğe, ihtiyâc denilmemişdir. Meyyit, sadakanın sevâbına, herkesden çok muhtâc olduğu hâlde, onun rûhu için yemek [helva] dağıtılmasını islâmiyyet emr etmemişdir. Böyle belâya yakalanmış olanlara, emr-i ma'rûf ve nehy-i anil-münker yaparak, doğru yolu göstermek lâzımdır. Bir müslimân, nasıl olur da, böyle harâm işi yapabilir? İhtiyâcları te'mîn edecek yol çokdur. Bu zemânda, şübheli olmıyan kazanc kalmadı diyorsunuz. Evet öyledir. Fekat elden geldiği kadar, şübhelilerden kaçınmak lâzımdır. Tarlayı abdestsiz sürmek, tohumunu abdestsiz ekmek, rızkın bereketini, tayyib olmasını giderir demişlerdir. Hindistânda, böyle çalışan, hemen yok gibidir. Fekat, Allahü teâlâ, kulundan, elinden geldiği kadar yapmasını istemekdedir. Fâiz ile para alıp ziyâfet vermekden sakınmak, herkes için kolaydır. Halâle harâm, harâma halâl diyen kâfir olur. Fekat bu kat'î, meydânda olan helâl ve harâmlar içindir. Zan olunanlar için değildir. Hanefî mezhebinde mubâh olan çok şey vardır ki, şâfi'î mezhebinde mubâh değildir. Bunun aksi de vardır. Muhtâc olduğu şübheli olan birinin, fâizle para alması halâl olur demiyene, açık bildirilen harâma halâl diyemiyene dil uzatılmaz. Sapık, gerici denilmez. Halâl demesi için zorlanamaz. Onun haklı olması dahâ kuvvetlidir. Hattâ, haklı olduğu meydândadır. Ona dil uzatanlar haksızdır ve tehlikededir. Mevlânâ Abdülfettâh, (Fâizsiz borç almak iyidir. Niçin fâiz ile alıyorlar?) demiş. Wenns in einer Beziehung rosig läuft, denkt keiner daran, dass man eines Tages in die Paartherapie sollte. Ich denke, so geht es sehr vielen von uns. Abes was macht man, wenn die Beziehung schwierig wird? Das kann unterschiedlich aussehen, nämlich als ein Dauerkampf, oder ein ausgesprochenes Desinteresse und vollkommene Routine, ein Auseinanderleben etc. Mit Hristina sprachen wir in sehr breiter Fassung über die Paartherapie und somit über ihren Alltag als Paartherapeutin. Sie betonte, dass eine Beziehung natürlicherweise Pflege braucht, damit sie gedeihen könne. Und oft wollen die Partner gar nicht so viel, ihr scheinen die Ansprüche simpel und völlig angemessen. La compréhension que l'on se fait de notre monde dépend de bien des facteurs. Notre éducation, nos enseignements et l'environnement dans lequel on se trouve ne sont là que des infimes composants de qui construit nos croyances d'aujourd'hui. À l'image de ce que Thomas Pesquet nous a appris il y a de ça quelques jours, il est possible de remonter le temps grâce à la technologie et à la contemplation du ciel. Les études récentes nous apprennent d'ailleurs qu'il est possible de comprendre et de tirer des leçons des enseignements des civilisations antérieures aux nôtres. Dans ce nouvel épisode de Once Upon a Life, nous continuons la discussion que nous avons commencé avec Mélissa Abes lors du dernier épisode. Si tu n'as pas encore écouté le dernier épisode, je me dois de te le dire : Mélissa Abes est la fondatrice du premier observatoire itinérant de France à créer une passerelle entre science et sciences humaines et par là à étudier l'astronomie dans sa dimension anthropologique. Son travail est passionnant et elle nous partage aujourd'hui, au travers des études récentes qu'elle a pu mettre en place, ce qui selon elle fait partie de nos croyances et pourrait être déconstruit. Puisque, c'est ça, en définitif, partager un message. C'est partager une vision du monde qui est la nôtre. C'est partager avec les autres notre monde en quelque sorte et faire entrer ses pairs dans ses croyances, dans son monde et sa façon de voir les choses. En quelque sorte, on pourrait dire que nous construisons tous chaque jour notre propre vision du monde. Chacun à notre façon, nous faisons vivre ce qui nous fait vibrer et ce qui nous fait vivre. Pour un jour, le partager, et faire évoluer les consciences. Et, c'est ça, ce que nous faisons dans l'épisode d'aujourd'hui, nous parlons de ce que le ciel peut nous apprendre et de la façon dont les croyances et les représentations peuvent façonner le monde que l'on connait. Déconstruire les croyances universelles, c'est accepter d'ouvrir ses horizons et voir le monde à travers les yeux de quelqu'un d'autre. En somme, c'est grandir et évoluer. Regarder les étoiles, c'est permettre l'émerveillement, cette capacité des enfants qui nous fait déplacer des montages. Technology plays an important role in restaurants, but human connectivity is still an important part of the dining process. Regular and immediate employee recognition is the key to retaining top-performing employees. Recognizing employees with social media posts can be incredibly effective. Coach Masaki Matsumoto was born in Japan, but grew up in Seattle, WA and attended King's High School and played for Jim Shapiro (Episode #007).  After graduating from high school, Coach Matsumoto received a scholarship to play football at Trinity International University in Chicago, IL.  He went onto receive his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education & Health and eventually, received his Master's degree in Special Education.  He started his first teaching job at Bernstein High School in Los Angeles, CA in 2008; where he also became an assistant football coach and the head track coach.  After four seasons, he took over a struggling football program at Bernstein and turned it around.  In his three seasons as the Head Coach at Bernstein, his teams reached the playoffs all three seasons and made it to the semifinals in his last two seasons.  He was awarded the 2013 Central League Coach of the Year, 2013 L.A. Veronique was an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Obstetrics at the New Hampshire-Dartmouth Family Practice Residency program before changing careers to retrain as a Somatic Therapist at Naropa University.
