This week on the podcast, we're diving into the world of blood sugar regulation with Holistic Nutritionist Kim Desmarais. She has a passion for teaching women simple (and delicious!) ways to nourish their body so they can regain their energy and thrive. After overcoming her own health crisis, Kim truly believes that food is medicine. Through diet and lifestyle, she has brought her own body back to health, and loves teaching women how to do the same. You can expect to hear about:- Introduction to Blood Sugar: Understanding the basics of blood sugar and its impact on our energy levels and overall health.- Nutritional Strategies: How to regulate blood sugar through diet, focusing on the importance of avoiding refined sugars and grains, and incorporating balanced meals.- Lifestyle Adjustments: The role of movement, sleep, and stress management in maintaining stable blood sugar levels.- Personal Empowerment: Emphasizing the power of personal choice and lifestyle changes in preventing and managing diabetes and other blood sugar-related issues.Join us in this informative episode as we explore how to master your blood sugar and lead a healthier, more energetic life. You'll learn practical tips on nutrition, movement, and stress management, and how these elements interconnect to help you maintain optimal health. Let's dive in, shall we?Episode Highlight:"There's nothing worse than stress for your blood sugar. It's like you're stressed about stress. Like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm feeling like this is hurting my health.' What I like to tell people is you cannot change the stress in your life but what we can do is support our resiliency to those stresses. And so, when we don't do these things to support our resiliency, our window of tolerance is really small. So everything can put us on this roller coaster. Whereas if we support that window of tolerance and our resiliency, our body is able to handle and support us through these real stresses that we really cannot change."- Kim Desmarais Resources: Find Kim Desmarais on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kimdesmarais.nutrition/ Discover The Energy Upgrade: https://www.vanessagrutman.com/energy-upgrade-new-generation Book a Guidance Call to explore your coaching options: Calendly.com/vipconcierge-vanessagrutman/15min Sign-up to my next event THE MASK: https://vanessagrutman.coach/the-mask Learn more about my coaching programs:- Energy Upgrade New Generation : https://www.vanessagrutman.com/energy-upgrade-new-generation- Femme Biohacker : https://www.vanessagrutman.com/femme-biohacker- Allure : https://www.vanessagrutman.com/allure- Book a connect call : https://calendly.com/vanessagrutman/connect Other helpful resources here for you:- 7-day liver detox: https://vanessagrutman.myshopify.com/products/functional-medicine-detox-7-day-protocol - Book your FREE Connect Call with me: https://calendly.com/vanessagrutman/connect - Download my FREE EBOOK highlighting the 5 nutritional supplements everyone should take and why here: https://www.vanessagrutman.com/opt-in-916fa0bf-a807-4f95-b8ee-440af66d41c5 - My website: https://www.vanessagrutman.com/ - Find me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vgrutman/ - Find my professional page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/VanessaGrutmanIHP - Join me on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@vanessagrutman Disclaimer: Vanessa Grutman, IHP does not treat, cure or diagnose disease.
With the use of passwords, we're hoping to ensure privacy and security, but sometimes it is at the expense of convenience. As technology changes and biometric databases become more utilized, we need to remember that they may also be hacked. Today's guests are Philippe Desmarais and Thierry Gagnon. Philippe is a tech entrepreneur who co-founded Kelvin Zero and currently serves as its CEO, overseeing the company's strategic direction. He is also a member of the Next Generation Advisory Council at Rockefeller Capital Management. Before creating Kelvin Zero, Philippe played a significant role in various start-ups, focusing on data analytics for political campaigns, remote hardware device management, and cybersecurity. Thierry Gagnon is co-founder and Chief Technology at Kelvin Zero. He is an expert in software development, malware analysis, cryptography, and reverse engineering. He has been actively involved in the cybersecurity community, participating in renowned competitions and projects such as Malware Information Sharing Platform. Show Notes: [1:18] - Philippe and Thierry share their backgrounds and their roles in the company they co-founded together, Kelvin Zero. [2:34] - Thierry's expertise is in cybersecurity but Philippe's interest was more in crime. They combined their strengths and passions to create Kelvin Zero. [6:18] - Passwords have been around for millennia. [7:24] - We often confuse being smarter with being faster. [9:45] - Passwords are not often attached to an individual. We have so many passwords and can't actually know them all. [11:53] - We can compromise passwords at scale. [13:20] - The attackers only need to be right once. The defenders need to be right 100% of the time. How can we flip this? [15:47] - The average person is tasked with trying to keep up with cybersecurity and, in most cases, they are not qualified to do this. [17:11] - What does it look like to take a password-less approach? [19:20] - If cybersecurity is done successfully, the opportunities are massive. But regulation holds us back. [21:51] - Once a tech company can serve protection, then companies can focus on their services and products. [24:46] - There are differences between the physical world and the logical world. [28:41] - How do you convince people to share medical data for research when there are constant breaches? [31:33] - Is privacy the same as anonymity? [33:52] - Technology should be able to do what we want it to do, but that's not the case. [36:36] - In a password-less environment, how can we validate a user? [39:40] - Thierry believes we should get away from the server authenticating because then it is the responsibility of the organization. [43:18] - Sci-fi movies sound far-fetched, but a lot of them predict technology. [46:35] - Thierry and Philippe share their thoughts on what we should be putting our focus on now. Out to Washington this week for an update on the 2023 Hop Crop and to hear how the timing of the harvest impacts flavor and aroma. Eric Desmarais and Alexandra Nowell of CLS Farm in Yakima is here to share their insight. Mid-September means the hop harvest is in full swing in the Pacific Northewest, and to get insight on what is happening with the harvest I'm so pleased to be joined by Eric Desmarais, the 4th generation owner of CLS Farms in Yakima and Alexandra Nowell the technical brewing advisor to the farm. They've been busy taking stock of all that's happening amid the acres and running sensory and talking with brewers. They've also been looking at the calendar and taking stock on the aromas and flavors that the hops present when they are picked. It's something that gets a good amount of attention these days. Earlier this year they hosted a seminar titled "Finding the Edges: The Intersection of Art and Science Hop Picking Windows," and were joined by Tom Nielsen of Sierra Nevada, and Stephanie Conn of VGF Farms. The seminar explored the diversity of hop aromas that can develop based on when a variety is harvested and in this conversation they will share details on that and what they have additionally learned this season. How does harvest time impact the flavor of the hops? One example that CLS found that harvesting El Dorado towards the end of September brings out its tropical and candy aromas whereas early harvested El Dorado has more citrus and melon character. It's a fascinating subject and science.

Sebastien Desmarais: Hollywood Woodwork “We're an architectural woodwork company, founded in 1968 by my grandfather at the time we were a small two-person shop and we started doing different things, and we grew up and eventually we focused on commercial architectural woodworking, and by 1999 we've grown to maybe a 20-million a year company. And we started heading down a path of employee ownership. So, we're an ESOP, we're partially employee-owned, and since then, just been growing the business and now we're diversified a little bit. We do woodworking, we do metalwork, and we're also into residential as well.” - Sebastien Desmarais Welcome to a brand-new episode of the Woodpreneur Podcast. Today, your host Steve Larosiliere is joined by Sebastien Desmarais from Hollywood Woodwork. Sebastien's grandfather established Hollywood Woodwork in 1968, specializing in architectural woodwork. At the time, they had a small, two-person staff. By 1999, they had developed into a 20 million-dollar firm as a result of their focus on commercial architectural woodworking. The business then began to move in the direction of employee ownership. They are an ESOP member, which means they are partially employee-owned. Sebastien has been expanding the company and recently began to diversify. They work with metal, wood, and even residential clients. In this episode, Sebastien shares where most of their assignments come from, who their biggest client is, and how he keeps in touch and maintains a good relationship with them long after the project has concluded. Keeping up excellent client relations after the project is finished can be difficult. Nonetheless, Sebastien said it's as easy as picking up the phone when people call, completing the task, and handling the issues. "The individual who dives deeply into problems and seeks out solutions." That, in his opinion, is what keeps their customers coming back. Listen now and get the whole story! Read More!

Marijuana. Mary Jane. Weed. Pot. Cannabis comes in many different names and many different forms. Today, it has become more and more popular. States are legalizing it for medical and recreational use, and it may be federally decriminalized soon. Growers, dispensaries, certain health care professionals, and your run of the mill pot-head claim that it can solve and fix many medical issues…. But does it? Our host, Noah Zimmerman, has been a daily user for the past 5 years, and reviews studies and anecdotal evidence to figure out if cannabis really is the “magical medicine” some claim it to be. And listen to find out why he has decided to stop being a daily user! Works cited: Desmarais, A., Smiddy, S., Reddy, S., El-Dallal, M., Erlich, J., & Feuerstein, J. D. (2020).
