This week, we are joined by "Cannibal" Cam Schwarz of Rabid Dog Films and we're taking a look at the cult classic, "Zombi Holocaust" AKA "Doctor Butcher MD (Medical Deviant). Released in 1980, this low-budget Italian film follows a group of scientists and medical professionals as they investigate a series of mysterious disappearances on a remote island in the Pacific. But as they soon discover, the island is overrun with zombies created by a mad scientist experimenting with voodoo and cannibalism. While the acting and special effects may not be top-notch, "Zombi Holocaust" embraces its B-movie status and delivers a deliciously campy and entertaining experience. The film's pacing may be slow at times, but the cheesy charm more than makes up for it. Fans of bad movies, this is one you don't want to miss. This week, John and Brian travel to Transylvania to visit the crypt of Count Dracula….well not quite, we actually visit 1995 and Dracula's crypt is full of Leslie Nielsen Naked Gun Jokes, Peter McNichol eating flies, and of course…an enema. We are talking about the horror parody from comedic master Mel Brooks, “Dracula Dead and Loving It.” A movie that feels like a weird sibling to 1974's Young Frankenstein; a parody of both the early 90's classic horror monster revival ushered in by 1992's Bram Stoker's Dracula and a comedic homage to Hammer Films. But unlike Young Frankenstein, this movie was panned by critics and marked the end of Mel Brooks line of parody films dating all the way back to the 70's. But is this movie really that awful? It feels like forever since we released an episode PsychosNation! It's not everyday that we get an indie film to review. And this one comes straight from Germany! Filmmaker Zetkin Yikilmis unleashes her newest film, "PINK RABBIT". The film details the bizarre journey, concocted by an equally bizarre man dressed like a Pink Rabbit, that a young mother named Martha has to endure on the way home to her young son and husband. The movie pays homage to a number of bizarre and surreal tropes from other genre films while at the same time forcing us to ask the question of whether all the horrors that the Pink Rabbit puts Martha through are real or all in her head. Being an indie film, we definitely saw moments of greatness coupled with areas that we felt could be improved. But don't take our word for it. This week, John and Brian sit in some group therapy as we examine the loss of their childhood with the newest dinosaur-sized turd in the form of Jurassic World: Dominion. This movie has it all: a ridiculous plot, phoned in "member berries in the form of vintage Jurassic Park characters showing up, and all the dinosaur action that a bloated hollywood cash grab can muster. Despite all that, the real question we all have is how can a movie franchise fall so low? How can you start off with a movie that captured the imaginations of billions with cutting edge CGI that changed the way movies were made; and end up with what literally is a bloated sausage filled with the entrails of greatness. Happy New Year Psychos Nation! It's been a hell of a 2021 and we are hopeful that 2022 just sucks a little bit less than last year. So to kick off 2022, we are celebrating by reviewing probably one of the only slasher films that tackle New Years Eve; 1980's New Years Evil. A movie that manages to neither scare or entertain any audience, New Years Evil is the story of Punk Rock/New Wave Elvira Wannabe "Blaze" who on her call in music show is terrorized by a caller by the name of "Evil" who threatens to murder women at the stroke of midnight in everytime zone leading up to the westcoast and ulimately her. The movie features a bizarre mish-mash of "punk rock" that honestly would offend any serious punk rock fan along with a killer whose motivations are rooted in crazy levels of mysogyny. This week, Brian and John are explorers in the further reaches of experience as we take a trip back to the year 1987 and review a film that serves as a perfect fit between this gap of time between Halloween and Thanksgiving; Clive Barker's Hellraiser. A movie that is equal parts family drama (just like thanksgiving) and sadomascistic demons from beyond the grave.....see I told you it works for both holidays. Hellraiser was a film that stuck out from the masked killers and dream demons from the 80's. It presented something new, an intelligent monster that ultimately was not the real monster of the film. With it being next up on the remake chopping block with count'em 2 projects coming to HULU and HBO Max, we figured it would be a good time to review this twisted film that holds a special place in Brian's heart. This week, we are rolling out the perfect trick (or treat depending on how much you like this movie) with a trip back in time to the 80's.....we're not sure the year because the little gem of a movie we are reviewing may have been shot in 1984, 1985, and then released in 1986, 1987, and 1988. This week's episode is 220 episodes in the making. This week, we are closing out our long running review of the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Original Batman Series with 1997's Batman and Robin. What is truly amazing about this cluster of neon, terrible acting, terrible story, puns, and camp galore is that this movie was the fear that fan boys had back in 1988 when Michael Keaton, at the time knkown for comedic roles, was cast. A fear that Batman would return to the ridiculous and over the top parody as seen in the 1960's Adam West series. This film is notable for being the death kneel in the Batman franchise that ultimately would help spawn a super hero revival rooted in darker and more mature superhero stories. It begs the question, if Batman and Robin didn't exist as the proverbial "rock bottom" would we have movies like Blade, Xmen, Spiderman, and the films of the MCU? This week, Brian and John tackle Marvel Studios' first foreay into the quagmire that is the post-pandemic movie landscape with Black Widow. A movie that was late due to a pandemic but also about 5 years too late due to the bone-headed belief that female-led superhero films would not sell in a sea of space gods, hulks, iron men, and super soldiers. The result is a movie that tries to make up for lost time that originally saw a character reduced to the quintessential "sexy lamp" in Iron Man 2 and only over the course of 8 years finally get some character developement in Avengers Endgame only to die at the very end. This week, Brian and John celebrate Father's Day in the only way possible; by reviewing a movie about a homicidal maniac who preys on single parent families in his search for the perfect family. We are of course talking about 1987's The Stepfather. An odd ball and much under appreciated slasher film that feels more like a slasher from the early 80's rather than the late 80's when stripped-sweatered dream killers and sadomascistic demons from a puzzle box were all the rage. Yet this film rises above all that and provides us with a smart and multi-layered horror film that touches on everything from Reagan Conservatism, the American dream, and the mixed emotions that come when new people enter a family due to either divorce or when a parent dies.
