After a couple weeks off due to illnesses running through our houses, we're back and better than ever. Youth sports, politics, and home maintenance are on the agenda this week. We also discuss our new nemesis, Shakira. Murder Party: Some loser knob shows up at a "Murder Party" that he knows nothing about with people he's never met, but the guy is a lonely sad-sack who just wants a friend. Turns out, the party is put on by a bunch of artist douchebags who are actually looking to murder someone in an "artistic" manner. Who dies? Unfortunately not the entire cast, only most of them. CarousHell final grade: Steve This one is on the bottom end of meh. I could watch it again. I won't, but I could. There is humor there, if you're paying attention. Costume effects were good. A very average movie, exceeding the below average budget. 2.17/5.0 Brandon To quote the movie, "Banal. Jejune. The artistic representation of a dial tone." Not enough humor or action in the first 85% of the movie to make it worth working through to get to the end bit. Steve says there is some humor there, but I don't want to pay close enough attention to get it. 1.47/5.0 1.5/5.0 Cocktail of the Week: Skeleton Key 1 1/4 oz Bourbon 3/4 oz Elderflower Liqueur 1/2 oz Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice 1 TBSP Angostura Bitters Ginger Beer Angostura Bitters Comebine all non-ginger beer ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake to chill and combine. Serve over rocks in a Collins glass. Drizzle bitters over the top to create dripping blood effect. Cocktail Grade: Not a bad cocktail, but nothing to write home about. Adding a little more lemon juice to subsequent rounds and stirring the bitters in before drinking made it more palatable. First, catch up on some CSU Women's Hockey and try to answer the age-old question, "Why do douchebags love crotch rockets?" CarousHell: In what must be an allegory for parenthood, a sentient carousel horse...I mean unicorn...Duke gets fed up with kids riding his back and treating him poorly, so he decides to escape the bonds of the amusement park carousel and exact his revenge by killing everyone. Nothing can quench his thirst for blood, but can Cowboy Cool stop his reign of terror? CarousHell final grade: Steve Top-tier regardless of the scoring scale. 70-minute runtime was perfect. Laughs by the truckload, possibly due to the effects of the Cocktail of the Week. 5.0/5.0 Brandon Sometimes taking a shot on something that looks stupid and terrible pays off. It did in a big way here. Duke isn't the hero we wanted, but he's the hero we deserve. 5.0/5.0 Cocktail of the Week: Vieux Carré 3/4 oz Rye Whiskey 3/4 oz Cognac 3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth 1/2 oz Benedictine Angostura Bitters Peychaud's Bitters Comebine all ingredients in a cocktail mixing glass over ice. Stir to chill and combine. Serve over rocks in a rocks glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon and a Luxardo cherry. Cocktail Grade: One of the most famous cocktails to come out of Louisiana, and for good reason. They catch up to you quickly, given they have no non-alcoholic ingredients to dilute the booze. CarousHELL is one of those movies you're either going to love or hate. We weren't fans the first time we watched it but when we watched it again for the podcast we may just have changed our minds with possibly our highest scoring movie yet. Sure there are a bunch of annoying characters but they do meet grizzly Unicorn based ends in more and more inventive ways. A small correction for the episode, we keep referring to one character as Diana, the character name is actually Sarah and the lapse in professionalism will never happen again... honest. You may also hear a special guest that may or may not be Alanis Morisette (For legal reasons it definitely isn't.) This week, Brian, John, and Laine are taking a local stroll down to the newest entry into the comedic horror slasher genre with friend of the show, Steve Rudzinski's newest film, CarousHELL.  A movie that asks the question, what if inanimate objects are tired of our shit?  This is the story of Duke, a homicidal carousel unicorn that has had enough and is out for blood; sweet, sweet blood.  We examine throwback to 80's slasher films and ask some of the real hard hitting questions.  Like what is the allure of my little uni (unicorn/pony) and the rise of "bronies".  Also, will Pizza Boy Joe in the film ever get his $42.39?  These questions and more as we take a trip to CarousHELL.

This week Brian sits down for a featured interview with one of the best genre bending indie filmmakers out there; Writer, Director, and Spider-Man (seriously):  Steve Rudzinski of Silver Spotlight Films.  Steve talks about his filmmaking journey and his successes with such films as Everyone Must Die, Captain Z and the Terror of Leviathan, Super Task Force One, and his newest film currently in post production, CarousHELL.   Movie News! No movie news this week. Steve Rudzinski Interview Find your style During his filmmaking career, Steve Rudzinski found his "style" of combining comedy with horror. Steve has also managed to keep the public guessing by changing up the genres with each film.  Jumping from a slasher film, to a tokusatsu film, to a pirate adventure film, and so on. The mechanics of combining comedy and horror Steve's approach is to have fun with horror.  He isn't trying to make a brooding thriller.  His strength is creating likable insane characters that you care about and root for. Mapping out the character's relationships is ultimately how you develop complex three dimensional characters that the audience can relate to. Let your actors do what they need to to bring the characters to life. Film is a business as well as art Film is still a product and you as the filmmaker need to understand the big picture instead of getting caught up on every little detail that may set you behind Finding financing is tough.  Sometimes, as in the case of CarousHELL, you get lucky at Christmas Parties and find investors who believe in you and your project. Film festivals are not always the be all end all way of getting your movie out.  Soft release your film with dvds at a premiere, do conventions, and generate buzz through reviews and interviews that you then can share when approaching a distributor. Steve is also Spider-Man Steve's day job is working as a official Marvel super hero actor who has played Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc.  So he quite literally is Spider-Man.
