Junk Food Dinner returns with three very random, very different films to wet your weird cinema whistle!Up first, low-budget Baltimore filmmaker Don Dohler brings us a tale of a reanimated corpse that moves into a suburban neighborhood and starts giving music lessons (and also killing people) in Fiend from 1980. Then, Dean Cameron stars in a classic slobs vs snobs tale set in a ski resort in Ski School from 1991. This R-rated comedy was a staple of late-night cable TV in the 90's but does it hold up? We find out. Finally, we get a rare look into the world of early 90's Japanese dance, fashion and music in the 1993 V-Cinema straight-to-video flick Heartbreaker: With Love from a Bullet. All this plus Final Destination chat, more Sinners chat, Kevin's adventures at the theater, Norm!, Looney Tunes blu-rays and so much more! Ski Patrol the movie celebrates its 35th anniversary in January 12, 2025. If you need a quick reminder about the plot…ski school instructors align with an evil land developer to sabotage the ski patrol and convince the Forest Service to cancel the owner's lease on the ski area. The broader context in ski movie lore, and, as Heather Hansman wrote in Powder Days, “the goofy sex appeal of mainstream ski movies like Ski Patrol, Ski School and Hot Dog, fed into the oversimplified fallacy that ski town lift was all sunny backscratchers, babes in one-pieces, and beating bad guys to the finish line.” A timely chapter to read the other day. The podcast episode starts with the usual plot overview and critical acclaim before a rundown of the characters/actors, followed by 5 rounds of trivia questions! And a surprise [and signature] final Jeff-Pardy question [acknowledging actual Ski Patrol worldwide] awaits at the end. Happy 35th Ski Patrol [the movie]! Segment Times: 3:35 – Lightning Round; Free Skiing! 9:26 – Introduction Ski Patrol the Movie 11:12 – Critical Acclaim: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly 13:16 – Audience Reviews: The Mostly Good, One Bad, No Ugly 16:18 – Characters and Actors Overview 23:50 – Trivia Questions 38:42 – Final 'Jeff-Pardy' Question: A Salute to Actual Ski Patrol

Scott is the technical director at Hafjell Ski School in Norway and is an IASI educator for both Alpine and Telemark. The podcast is currently on a break between Season 3 and Season 4. As promised, during this period I'll be uploading previous episode or two, beginning with this edit of what was the Episode 13 of the podcast, and the first of Season 2 – Shiga Kogen Ski Resort: Japan's Largest Ski Resort. In this episode I spoke with two-time Olympian Robel Zemichael about Shiga Kogen Mountain Resort, which lays claim to being both Japan's largest and highest ski resort. Robel is the manager of Shiga International Ski School and based in Shiga Kogen all year round, so there's no better person to speak with and he advocates for Shiga wonderfully.Important to note that this is an edited version of the longer original episode, in which Robel and I went into more detailed discussion about all aspects of the resort, services provide by Shiga International Ski School, accommodation and more. If you haven't already, make sure to listen to the full episode. This edit provides a taste of the longer conversation I had with my guest Robel, but I think it interesting in its own right while it might also prompt you to go back and listen to the longer, original version. I hope you enjoy!Snow Country Stories Japan is a bi-weekly podcast about life and travel in Japan's legendary 'yukiguni'. Local Artist Anna Moore sits down with Host, Kaylin RIchardson, to chat about her work on the Burns Reimagined art installation at Deer Valley. For this project, upcycled chairs from the recently retired Burns Chairlift, one of the first chairlifts at the resort and a staple for Ski School, served as a blank canvas for each artist to design and capture the essence of Deer Valley. From stunning scenics to portraits of Deer Valley legends like Stein Eriksen, they delivered — and you can now find these chairlifts-turned-masterpieces displayed around Deer Valley. Anna is a Utah-based painter who finds inspiration in the untamed lands of the West. After nine years of living in the Wasatch, she has found her mountain muse for life. As an artist, her deepest joy comes from physically tracing the landscape with her body (skiing, hiking, climbing, biking...) and then immortalizing that experience in paint. For the Burns Reimagined chairlift project, Anna wanted to feature the two types of winter weather we get at Deer Valley: “Bluebird” and “Powder Day." For the “Bluebird” design, she combined her favorite view (Clayton Peak from atop Empire lift) with a native Utah bluebird — the Scrub Jay. The “Powder Day” design uses more muted tones and features fluffy, pillowy pine trees and the first ski tracks after a fresh coat of snow. View more of her work at annaleighmoore.com.

Episode 13 of the podcast – and the first of Season 2 – brings us back to Nagano and Japan's largest ski resort, Shiga Kogen. A host venue in the 1998 Winter Olympic Games, Shiga Kogen Mountain Resort is Japan's largest and highest ski resort and enjoys the longest season of any resort in Nagano or Central Japan. Despite this the resort remains relatively unknown to international visitors…In this episode I speak with Robel Zemichael, manager of Shiga International Ski School. Robel is a two-time Olympian who represented his birth country of Ethiopia at the 2006 Games in Torino and 2010 Games in Vancouver. He is long-term resident of Japan who has called Nagano his home for some time now, and as we wait the beginning of the ski school's ninth season, I was fortunate enough to sit down with Robel for a chat about the ski resort and why he rates it so highly.Make sure to check out the episode page on the Snow Country Stories Japan website for further information, relevant links and a map showing where Shiga Kogen is located. Given the size of Japan's snow country and often unfamiliar place names, understanding where each episode is talking about can be confusing. For that reason, each episode has a page on website including links and maps to help you get your bearings and learn more about the people and places discussed. For more information about the podcast and your host, visit our website: www.snowcountrystories.com. Plus, the two will discuss how the industry has changed over the years, trends in the sport, why we're seeing a surge in ski popularity today, and what the future holds for skiers across the world. Then Kathryn Nathanson, Global Experience Director of Indagare Travel, returns to ask Melissa about her recommendations for family-friendly ski experiences, international destinations, and packing tips for anyone about to hit the slopes. Roden and Thunder decide to make a career change and head to Ski School.
Summer's over and it's time to transition to winter and that means SKI FILMS. Avoiding pap like "Ski School" and "Hot Dog: The Movie" we are instead taking up a listener suggestion to pod about 'Aspen Extreme'...a film I quote comedically (and to generally blank stares) all the time. Turns out this movie's actually really good and a cut way above the usual dumbass soft-core porn ski comedies all too frequently littered across our slopes in the 80's and 90's. Aspen Extreme was written and directed by Patrick Hasburgh, who went on to create TV's 'Hardcastle & McCormick' and '21 Jump Street', and was originally conceived by Hasburgh as a darker and grittier look at ski-town life; the highs and especially the lows: the drugs, the empty pursuit of thrills at the expense of relationships, the death and injuries. But Hollywood Pictures insisted on cuts and on a marketing campaign geared around the phrase "Top Gun on the slopes" which bore little resemblance to the actually well-written character study/fish-out-of-water buddy dramedy he turned out. Over time, 'Aspen Extreme' has settled into a comfortable middle-age. Screenings in Aspen now have the glow of fondly reminisced times past, and the cast seems to have all thrived in the decades since release. So while I intended this episode to be tongue-firmly-in-cheek...I was actually surprised even as a fan of this movie to discover it's a totally competent, even moving film set in and around a ski resort, not just another ski comedy with lowbrow jokes and ethnic stereotypes ('Chinese Downhill'...I'm looking at you, 'Hot Dog')....
What a great time it was to sit down and talk with Patrick Labyorteaux! He was in Little House On The Prairie as Andy Garvey and he was in all 10 seasons of JAG as Lt Bud Roberts Jr. He was in some great comedies in the 80's such as Summer School, Ski School and Heathers and the 3 Ninjas in 1992. He has done voiceover work on the Spiderman cartoon that ran from 1995-1998 and has played bit roles in more tv shows then I can possibly mention here. He is currently working with people helping them on their way to becoming actors/actresses or voice over artists and you can check that out or even register for a class at www.workingactorsschool.com. Personally I'd love to be a voice over artist and who knows, maybe one day I will have some work out there but until then, just enjoy this interview we had and if you do like it then please rate & review us on iTunes or Spotify if you listen there. If you watch us on YouTube then subscribe and leave a comment and by all means, please subscribe and follow the audio podcast as I am really looking to grow it to something big we can all love. The bigger I get the more stars we can get to interview for you! =0) Remember, we are on iTunes, Spotify, Google, Stitcher, IHeartRadio, YouTube and Anchor.fm where we are hosted. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/retrolif4you/support
Did the 90s create ski movies or did ski movies create the 90s? Wild colors. Outrageous competitions. Parties. So. Many. Parties. When an elite team of skiers with not so vaguely authoritarian undertones challenges everyone's favorite wild guys for control of the slopes, all bets are off. Let's take to the mountains in this episode's feature, Ski School. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bmoviebreakdown/support
PUBLIC VERSION. Actor and filmmaker Dean Cameron (“Chainsaw” from SUMMER SCHOOL, BAD DREAMS, ROCKULA, SKI SCHOOL 1 & 2, IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, WE BARE BEARS, SHAMELESS, WILL & GRACE, ALF and so many more) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen in the ArieScope Studio to discuss his career journey. From stealing the show at just 6 years old when he starred in a play alongside his father… to performing in plays as a teenager alongside actors like John Ritter and Eric Stoltz… to moving to Los Angeles right out of High School and working odd jobs for 4 years before beginning to work steadily as an actor… to the crushing disappointment of the first TWO major roles he booked not actually happening… to knowing from the moment he read the script for SUMMER SCHOOL that the role of “Chainsaw” was absolutely going to be his… to the important lesson that director Carl Reiner taught him during his audition… to the late 90's when the exciting roles were no longer coming his way… to finding himself so disenchanted with the industry that he stepped away and found himself once again working odd jobs like a computer programmer, a karaoke band musician, and a Las Vegas magician… to discovering that taking a break from Hollywood was precisely what he needed to fall in love with it all over again… to returning to his true calling by immersing himself in all aspects of storytelling (writing, directing, producing), working with friends and good people that he chooses to work with, and not giving a f*ck what anyone else thinks… Dean's extremely clear, totally sincere, and brutally honest perspective on the entertainment industry is one that every artist (aspiring or veteran) will benefit from hearing. (SUMMER SCHOOL fans are going to have their minds blown by all of the behind the scenes anecdotes that Dean shares in the spectacular second half of this phenomenal episode!) Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a writer who has created an ideal set-up to write in but who is having trouble getting any actual writing accomplished… Dean wins Adam's heart with his true love of metal… and the boys fail miserably at controlling their excitement over meeting one of their cinematic heroes in this heartfelt and fantastically fun conversation that is THE MOVIE CRYPT at its very best!
The next sequel we are reviewing is "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time” and I got to interview Actor Patrick Labyorteaux. Patrick and I connected on Twitter when I was talking about his character from a sequel we covered a few months back in "Ghoulies go to College" and he replied! Patrick was a blast to chat with about his origin story, being a child actor, reinventing himself as a jock, Summer School, voiceover work, and more. Patrick loves acting but also loves Hollywood, which was an absolute blast. This is a video interview you can watch at sequelsonly.com/labyorteaux Links mentioned in this episode: Patrick's IMDb https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0479779/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 Patrick's online acting school https://www.workingactorsschool.com/ Next up is our review "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time", which is free on Amazon Prime. This week we are talking "Escape from LA" which we wanted to love because the cast is top notch; Russell, Keach, Buscemi, and more, but unfortunately we did not. There were a lot of similarities between the 1st one and a lot of oddities that Carpenter believed 2013 would look like, so we had our action sequel expert Andrew Powers help us break it down. We discussed Peter Fonda surfing, basketball to the death, Jose Cuervo Jones, the president's daughter stealing Air Force 3, the odd value of a dollar, and more. I wish we got the Escape from Cleveland they mentioned A TON of times in this film. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/EscapefromLA The next sequel that will be discussed next is "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time" and for it, we chatted with Actor Patrick Labyorteaux. Patrick was in a sequel we covered a few months back, "Ghoulies go to College". Patrick talked about growing up as a child actor being on the hit show Little House on the Prairie, then going on to play the jock in movies like Summer School, Heathers, Ski School, and more. Then he starred on JAG for years. Great chat about his career and his online acting school where he can teach you acting over zoom. Flashback Episode of The Father Time Podcast with Jamie KalerYou definitely know Dean Cameron. He was "Chain Saw" in "Summer School". Yes, that guy. From "Ski School" and "Ski School II, Electric Boogaloo"? Yes, that's him. His credit list is amazing, NCIS, Men at Work, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Straight Outta Compton...but his life is even crazier. From early success with Carl Reiner directing his first film, to doing dinner shows in Vegas as a Wizard, to rising like a phoenix, and now becoming one of Hollywood's go to character actors. "Chain Saw" is now a father. Come along for one of my fave rides as Dean shares stories of shooting a zombie film with a pre-"Friends" Matt LeBlanc, conning an internet con artist from Nigeria out of money (true story), and growing up with 5 different fathers in his life. How is that possible? You'll have to listen. It's insane. You can follow Dean on Instagram at:https://www.instagram.com/thedeancameronYou can catch The Parent's Lounge live every Tuesday night at 10pm EST/7pm PST at:https://www.facebook.com/theparentslounge#theparentslounge #parentingpodcast #deancameron #jamiekaler #chainsaw #Nigerianprince #moneyscam #SkiSchool #NCIS #menatwork #Itsalwayssunny #Straightouttacompton #wizards #funnydads #parentingpodcast #comedy #funny

Join your hosts Jamie G and Magnum Mills as they gush endlessly about "The Gang Hits the Slopes", the third episode of the eleventh season of 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".
