The Flatwoods Monster, also known as the Braxton County Monster, is a cryptid linked to an alleged alien encounter in Flatwoods, West Virginia, on September 12, 1952. Witnesses, including a group of local boys and a mother, reported seeing a towering, humanoid figure with glowing eyes, claw-like hands, and a metallic, skirt-like lower half. The creature was described as emitting a noxious mist that made some witnesses ill. The sighting occurred after a bright object was seen streaking across the sky, leading some to speculate it was an extraterrestrial being. While skeptics suggest the creature was a misidentified barn owl, the Flatwoods Monster remains a staple of American UFO folklore.-----------------Head to the Strange Places home website, asylum817.com to keep up with all things Strange Places, as well as the host. The Light Gate welcomes guest: researcher and author, Frank C. Feschino Jr. Date: December 16, 2024 Episode: 086 Discussion: The Braxton County Monster (aka: The Flatwoods Virginia Monster incident) and The Flying Saucer Air Wars of 1952 (as chronicled in his book, Shoot Them Down!) Frank C. Feschino, Jr. is a graduate of the Paier College of Art in Hamden, Connecticut, where he studied illustration, commercial art, and photography. He was trained by several world-famous artists including Kenneth Davies, Rudolph Zallinger and John Massimino and earned his four-year Fine Arts diploma in 1981. Feschino later moved to Florida where he studied film and video production at Phillips Jr. College in Daytona Beach and was trained by Hollywood camera operator Rich Davis. In 1994, Frank graduated with an Associates Degree in Film and Video Production and a minor in Business. While visiting family in Braxton County in the early 1990s, Feschino became aware of the "Flatwoods Monster" UFO crash incident in Braxton County that occurred on September 12, 1952 and began to investigate it. This case reportedly involved a UFO and its alien occupant, a 12-foot-tall armor-clad being that crash-landed on a farm in Flatwoods and encountered a curious group of local townspeople shortly after. Subsequently, he began an in-depth investigation into this case, which lasted decades and reveals a massive UFO cover-up implemented by the United States government. After decades of research and investigating the case, Feschino wrote a groundbreaking book that chronicles his investigation into the famous "Flatwoods Monster" incident. It is titled, "The Braxton County Monster - The Cover-up of the Flatwoods Monster Revealed," which was later released into an "Updated and Revised" edition as his investigation continued and additional information obtained. Frank has guest appeared on many West Virginia television talk shows, TV news broadcasts and radio programs and was also featured in the first-ever "Flatwoods Monster" cover story and feature article of UFO Magazine. The author/illustrator and UFO investigator also appeared in an episode of "Monster Quest" on the HISTORY CHANNEL that featured the "Flatwoods Monster" and "Frametown Monster" incidents of 1952. Additionally, Feschino produced a documentary that he wrote, shot and narrated, which focuses on his investigation into the "Flatwoods Monster" case and appears on you tube. After spending decades in search of the truth, Frank C. Feschino, Jr. has become the genuine authority on the "Flatwoods Monster" incident and UFO events of September 12, 1952. Frank is also the author of the highly acclaimed book, “Shoot Them Down! The Flying Saucer Air Wars of 1952. Today, Frank Feschino, Jr. continues to be involved in UFO his research and currently resides in central Florida. Send us a Text Message.Welcome to another cryptid-tastic episode! This time we'll take you back to 1952 when two brothers and a friend near the small town of Flatwoods, West Virginia were surprised by a bright light that landed near a local farm. Accompanied by a local National Guardsman, the group came face to face with something straight out of a sci-fi movie: the Flatwoods Monster. Twenty years later in the rural southeastern Illinois town of Enfield, Henry McDaniel and his children were terrorized by a three-legged creature with large pink eyes as big as flashlights that tried to gain access to their home. The Enfield Horror, as it would come to be known, left its mark on a town such that to this day, some refuse to talk about it.Flatwoods Monster on WikipediaBraxton, VW - Flatwoods pageFlatwoods Monster Museum MerchBuy Troy Taylor book: Monsters of Illinois“The Full Story of the Monster at Enfield” by Bob GymlanInternational Cryptid MuseumIf you have an experience, story, or anything else you'd like to share with us, you can email us at Opeaghost@gmail.com You can also follow us on Instagram, Join our Facebook group : Ope, A Ghost, or Follow us on YoutubeToodles!

Dusty Holley is a man with many talents and a diverse knowledge base that allows him to be equally at home in a board room or sitting on a board in a set of cow pens. Aside from being the Director of Field Services for the Florida Cattlemen's Association, he's a great storyteller with extensive family roots in our state's cow culture. Dusty set aside some time from his busy schedule to share that family history, part of which relates directly to the infamous Barber-Mizell Feud, and a good deal of general Florida history gleaned through various family accounts. Trust me when I say you don't want to miss the historical accounts captured in this conversation.

In the fall of 1952 the town of Flatwoods, West Virginia, was terrorized by a creature part cryptid and part otherworldly monster. This was over ten years before the infamous Mothman sighting in Point Pleasant. In fact, the state of country roads is more like the state of cryptid-roads, being home to some of the most incredible reports of strange creatures. When factoring in official explanations and the outright denials about these stories, objectively there must be something behind the phenomenon, as with UFOs, but that doesn't mean they are what anyone claims as subjective fact. In the 50's you couldn't turn over a rock without finding some sort of space alien, and Flatwoods, West Virginia was no exception. They had a big old alien over there! Like ten feet tall! It definitely wasn't just an owl! Don't get spooked!
Goood Saturday morning! Here's what James Clary covers this morning: Today we're talking humanoid creatures! James covers the Fresno nightcrawler. The nightcrawler has been spotted in Fresno, California and also in Yosemite National Park. The nightcrawler appears to be a short creature with long legs. Next, James talks about the Kelly Hopkinsville encounter. Sarah and James talk about Moth Man. Sarah visited Point Pleasant, WV, where Moth Man is most famous. The Flatwoods monster. Lizard Man and Wolf Man sightings.

Fellow West Virginian Jason Ruehl joins Barbara to talk about the weirdness of their mutual home state, and how kids who grow up hanging out in the woods learn the most interesting things. Bigfoot, ghostlights, and the Flatwoods monster all show up in the stories.
On this bonus episode, the Beaveman of The Slaptail Squad (not unlike Batman) and JD of The Monsters Lair (not unlike the Wolfman) team up for a fun talk about the monsters of West Virginia with a heavy focus on the beautiful town of Point Pleasant and Flatwoods. Its a fun talk about West Virginia, its' cryptids, high strangeness, and good people. If you ever get a chance to go, do it. Point Pleasant embraces the Mothman from their museum, culture, and arguably the coolest statue on the planet. If you get a chance to visit Flatwoods, they also have some very cool features like their Flatwoods Monster Museum with a large Flatwoods monster, and several chairs throughout the area. We hope you enjoy this team up episode. We hope to do many more in the future. Please see the show links for information about Point Pleasant, Flatwoods, and the very spooky Historic Lowe Hotel. Hopefully JD will dive deep into the history of that hotel in the future. Thank you to all of the friendly people of West Virginia that were just amazing and thank you to the comic book lady for being super cool. Can't wait to go back. Hopefully Mothman Festival 2024. Video footage and witnesses back in april-may document the apparent crash of an unidentified object in Nevada. A 911 call reveals that residents saw large, 10-foot tall, beings in their backyard with shining eyes and larger mouths. Police body cam confirms the colorful object falling from the sky and a Ring door cam confirms the sound of it possibly crashing. The timing of this report, weeks later, is suspicious as it coincides with a supposed military whistleblower, who was trained in information warfare, claiming the government has crashed UFO material and bodies, though he does not call them alien. After being recorded on body cam at 11:50pm, April 30, 2023, it took about an hour for residents to report the object had crashed and that they saw beings described as "not human." So we have a crashed UFO, bodies, and a description of “like aliens” and “not human,” all reminiscent of what the whistleblower claimed days before this case was made fully public. But perhaps the witnesses had simply heard a police scanner report of the 11:50 sighting and quickly concocted a hoax, or saw the streak of light and decided the same thing. However, the Ring cam sounds like a plane crashing. These space rocks are made out of iron and nickel, after all, that burn green/blue. The encounter with these strange beings standing there sounds like a Slenderman encounter too. Considering how close Area 51 is to the incident in Nevada, one may wonder if the falling colorful object from space was not actually from a nearby military base, even though people in many states witnessed the light falling. However, the object was seen over multiple states. The whole thing is just odd, but the isolated interaction with beings is similar to a number of small towns and families that have dealt with the same, from Flatwoods (1952) and Point Pleasant (1966-67), in West Virginia, to Hopkinsville (1955) and Bloomfield (1978) Kentucky. These isolated areas and people are perfect testing ground for we can only guess. In altered states of consciousness, however, we know that people see goblins, elves, dogmen, aliens, and flying saucers. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5328407/advertisement
The 1976 story from Gray Barker about a 1968 encounter with a Vegetable Monster in Marion County, West Virginia, is certainly a hoax. But long before West Virginia became a state its general land-area was plagued with a spooky reputation for being home to monsters and strange creatures, possibly even portals or gateways to other worlds. Besides bigfoot and giant prehistoric birds, Mothman is probably the most famous and unique of all cryptic-creatures, manifesting multiple times between 1966 and 1977 in West Virginia. Two years before the Point Pleasant sightings a monster called Grafton was also witnessed in Grafton, West Virginia, depicted like Mothman but without wings or red eyes. Going East of Point Pleasant takes you to Braxton County where over a decade before the two previous cases the Flatwoods Monster was witnessed in 1952. One day after the initial sightings of a tall, fiery, floating monster, a young couple and child encountered the same creature, near Frametown, West Virginia. They described it as having a reptile-like head and terrible smell. It examined their car and disappeared into the woods, and then presumably, based on the witnesses, off planet in a ball of light. This latter case has all the hallmarks of classic UFO/abduction encounters, from strange smells and driving on a lone road at night, to electrical interference, years before such cases were made public. Electric interference was part of the Mothman saga too. The September 1952 encounters were within months of releases of ‘The Thing from Another World' and ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still', but before federal authorities decided to officially use Hollywood to disinform the public on the subject. Admittedly, the Flatwoods encounters share some relationship to the humanoid robot Gort. The US Air Force even investigated this case, which means it likely was not an incident of their own making like the 1965 Kecksburg UFO crash. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5328407/advertisement
