The story intensifies as Paul's destiny as a prophesied leader entwines more deeply with the ecological and political upheaval on Arrakis. The struggle for control of the planet and its invaluable resource, spice, come to a head, involving various factions like the Harkonnens, the Emperor, and other major houses of the Landsraad.Join us and hear Pete and Sidey bemoan to the very underwhelming performance of a Bad Dads favourite, Mr Christopher Walken. There is actually lots to like here. The themes of Dune: Part Two continue to explore ecological stewardship, the messianic complex, and the interplay between power, religion, and destiny. The political intrigue that mirrors many real-world issues, resonating with audiences through its portrayal of resource-driven conflicts and colonial dynamics. But that Christopher Walken performance, what a let down!We love to hear from our listeners! The Dune books by Frank Herbert are widely said to be impossible to make into movies or shows. However, a few have tried and the latest is director Denis Villeneuve with, first, his Dune Part One film in 2021 and now Dune Part Two. Overwhelmingly, the consensus is that Villeneuve succeeded beautifully with his first Dune film in introducing movie audiences to the world of Dune. Now we get his Part Two which continues the story of Paul Atreides, who is royalty, but also could be the most powerful being in the entire universe someday. What will he do with this power? Will he engage in good to help out the people of the universe or will his power end up killing billions of people? Dune is also about Paul's alliance with the people of the planet Arrakis, known as the Fremen. We also see his battle against his enemies, the Harkonnens and the Emperor. Is Dune Part Two entertaining as it tells this complex, twisted tale? Check out this show to find out. Dune Part Two stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Lea Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgard and Charlotte Rampling.  Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

Join the crew as we tackle the incredibly epic sci-fi sequel, Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two! Did this movie meet our expectations, and was it better than Part One? We discuss all of our initial thoughts and theater experiences before diving into the movie. We get into all the amazingly detailed world of the Fremen, discuss Paul's relationship with Chani and his "hero" journey as he rises to become the Lisan al-Gaib, and ponder whether we should be rooting for Paul or not right now.  Outside of The Fremen, we get into new aspects of the story such as The Emperor, and our visit to the Harkonnen homeworld, Giedi Prime. We discuss the creative decisions made for this planet, as well as the thrilling performance of Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. Casting Choices: Some viewers find certain actors, particularly the young leads, to be well-cast and embody the characters’ personalities effectively. Negatives: Pacing and Storytelling Choices: Some critics found the pacing of the first season to be slow and felt the show condensed plot points from the original series, potentially hindering character development and impacting the overall story flow. Deviation from the Source Material: While some viewers appreciate the show’s attempt to adapt the story for a live-action format, others felt certain changes to the narrative or character arcs were unnecessary and took away from the essence of the original. Budget The budget for the live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” on Netflix is reported to be $15 million per episode. This means the entire first season, consisting of eight episodes, reportedly cost $120 million to produce. Dune: Part 2 (2024) Out of 10 Why Did Lady Jessica Go Full Super-Villains Darryl: 6.25/10 Brian: 4/10 Summary Picking up after the events of the first film, Paul Atreides seeks refuge with the Fremen, the indigenous people of the harsh desert planet Arrakis. He continues to develop his prophetic visions and abilities, while also forming a bond with Chani, a young Fremen warrior. Meanwhile, the Harkonnens, House Atreides’s bitter rivals, remain in control of Arrakis and continue to exploit its valuable resource, spice. Paul grapples with the weight of his destiny and the potential for a violent future. He must navigate complex alliances and face difficult choices as he ponders the potential consequences of his actions. The film explores themes of revenge, destiny, and the struggle for power. It delves deeper into the intricate world-building of Frank Herbert’s original novel, introducing new characters and factions. Cast and Crew Director: Denis Villeneuve, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts based on Frank Herbert’s novel. Main Cast: – Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, the young heir who embraces his destiny among the Fremen. – Zendaya reprises her role as Chani, the Fremen warrior who becomes Paul’s love interest. – Rebecca Ferguson is back as Lady Jessica, Paul’s Bene Gesserit mother. – Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, the leader of the Sietch Tabr Fremen tribe. – Josh Brolin portrays Gurney Halleck, Paul’s loyal warrior mentor. New additions to the cast include: – Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the cunning nephew of Baron Harkonnen. – Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the Emperor’s daughter with a complex role to play. – Christopher Walken joins the cast in an undisclosed role. – Léa Seydoux as Lady Fenring. Other notable crew members: – Hans Zimmer returns to compose the score, building upon the unique soundscape established in the first film. – Greig Fraser serves as the cinematographer, capturing the vast landscapes and intricate details of Arrakis. Dune: Part Two – Production and Budget Production: – Development for Dune: Part Two began after Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights for Dune in 2016. – Director Denis Villeneuve signed on in 2017 with the intention of making a two-part adaptation due to the novel’s complexity. – Originally, production contracts were only secured for the first film. The green light for the sequel depended on the first film’s success. – Despite Villeneuve’s concerns about the sequel’s green light due to the first film’s hybrid release (theatrical and HBO Max), it received the go-ahead, allowing them to move forward. – Filming for Dune: Part Two took place primarily in Jordan, Italy, and Hungary, with additional locations utilized as needed. Budget: – The estimated budget for Dune: Part Two is $190 million, which is significantly higher than the first film’s $165 million budget. – This increased cost can be attributed to several factors, including: – Expanding the scope of the story and world-building compared to the first film. – Bringing in new and established actors with higher salaries. – Creating complex visual effects and sets to bring the fictional universe to life. Since we are apparently still several years away from the next Star Wars or Star Trek movie on the big screen, director Denis Villeneuve has given us the next best thing....or maybe something even better? :) This long-awaited sequel to the Oscar nominated sci-fi blockbuster Part 1 picks up EXACTLY where the previous film left off.....Paul (Timothee Chalomet) and Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) now venturing on the desert planet of Arrakis (otherwise known as Dune) with the Fremen tribe lead by Javier Bardem's Stilgar while also becoming getting more acquainted with Chani played by Zendaya.  And of course a burgeoning war begins to escalate with the Harkonnens who have violently taken over the desert planet lead by the Baron played by Stellan Skarsgard.  Also including in this stacked cast are Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, Dave Baustista, and Austin Butler.  LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

This week on the Everything Actioncast, the Spice must flow as Zach and Chris talk about David Lynch's Dune as we prepare ourselves for Dune: Part Two in theaters. Starring Kyle Maclachlan, in his film debut, as Paul Atreides, the movie attempts to condense Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic into just slightly over two hours instead of the luxury of two, almost three hour movies like Denis Villeneuve has had.The guys talk about how memorable Sting is despite not really doing anything, the disgusting, bumbling Harkonnens, giant space slugs, the super condensed final act, the constant whispering voiceover, battle pugs, and more. You can watch David Lynch's Dune on Max (which is also where you can see Dune: Part One if you need a refresher before Part Two).Next week the guys are talking about the Stephen King adaptation Children of the Corn as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. We want to hear your comments and feedback. Send them all to contact@everythingaction.com.

With our updated goal of: “spend the right amount of time on each chapter”, we cover chapters 2 and 3. In chapter 2 we move to Geidi Prime, the home planet of the Baron Harkonnen; nemesis of the Atreides. We learn that the Harkonnen plot to take out the Atreides and resume control of the spice trade on Arrakis features turning the Atreides family doctor against them through treachery. However, there is also a secret twist- the Emperor is in on the plot and will be sending his specialized super troops, the Sardaukar, in Harkonnen uniforms to ensure success. Surprisingly the feud between the Harkonnens and Atreides is legally sanctioned with rules and forms of the Emperium- this is called “kanly”, a word rooted in the sort of blood feuds common amongst the tribes of Earth’s Caucasus Mountains, circa the 19th century. Jeff fills us in on how Herbert was heavily influenced by a book called Sabres of Paradise, whose topic is the Caucasian war of Independence between Caucus mountain tribes and Russia.   In Chapter 3 we’re back on Caladan where Reverend Mother Helen Mohiam and Jessica discuss her forbidden son, Paul, in more detail, as well as the Bene Gesserit’s ultimate agenda. We get a glimpse of Paul’s special abilities- can he predict the future? Do his dreams have meaning?   Delving further into the Bene Gesserit, we discuss “the voice” and the pop science behind it.  We’re not an anti-Star Wars podcast, but the “Jedi mind trick” that is the equivalent of the voice is pretty lame. Also, Gandalf uses “the voice” effectively in LOTR several times.   Speaking of Star Wars, we hear a very interesting story of how Jeff saw Star Wars in theatres for the first time in 1977. Mike foreshadows Paul’s father Duke Leto’s fate by calling him Ned Stark and that he sucks playing the game of thrones/kanly.  The hosts ramble about their Jiu jitsu styles and we realize it’s time to end.     Kanly: https://dune.fandom.com/wiki/Kanly#:~:text=Kanly%20was%20the%20enactment%20of,days%20of%20the%20Old%20Imperium.    Sabres of Paradise: https://www.amazon.com/Sabres-Paradise-Conquest-Vengeance-Caucasus/dp/0993092721    Phoenix Jones mutual combat: https://www.youtube.com/user/ThePhoenixJones/videos  Rumi poem: https://allpoetry.com/Who-makes-these-changes-

Dune (1992) 1992's Dune from Cryo Interactive/Virgin Interactive blends adventure with strategy. Loosely following the story of the 1965 novel Dune and using many visual elements from the 1984 film of the same name by David Lynch, the game casts the player as Paul Atreides, with the ultimate goal of driving the Harkonnens from the planet Dune and taking control of its valuable export, the spice. Key to success is the management of spice mining, military forces, and ecology as the player amasses allies and skills. Book Club Episode 19: Dune Part 19  Aaron and David discuss the next two chapters of Dune. But first we discuss the sad news that the latest Dune film adaptation has been pushed back until October of 2021. This week the Fremem held a funeral service for Jamis. While Paul says his words for Jamis he weeps and this helps win the Fremem over to him as Paul unwittingly is working his way to the prophesied one. At the end of the first chapter Paul beliefs his mother to be an enemy. This fuels some good conversation. The next chapter takes us away from Arrakis and to Giedi Prime the homeworld of the Harkonnens. It’s Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen's birthday and he gets to kill an Atreides slave in the arena. What an odd birthday party. Pour yourself a cold beverage and listen to more Dune, enjoy together responsibly! TUDW EP 26 – Dune (1984) On this episode, I'm joined by Mr Leighton Winstone (@leightwinst) and we are talking David Lynch's Dune from 1984. In the year 10191, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies, the Harkonnens. However, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), Leto's son, to lead the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert's epic novel. Initial release: 14 December 1984 (USA) Director: David Lynch Budget: 45 million USD Box office: 30.9 million USD (North America) Screenplay: David Lynch On What The Wookie Watched I review The Babysitter (2017), Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 (1987) and last but not least The Dead Zone (1983) Don't forgot to subscribe to the channel or leave a comment. It was a Five parter with one Mini-sode in the middle. As I said, some chapters are going to take longer than others. One thing I’m planning to do sometime this week is synopsize the the meta points we went over and post them in a list for the chapter for easy reference. I know in the mini-episode I talked about other plans and those are still in the works, I beg your patience on those. It should be obvious by now I don’t do frivolous and simple, and things will come as I feel they’re ready. I think it’ll be worth it. Today, in this installment, we’re going to concentrate primarily on the Baron Harkonnen and his immediate associates, but that will be through a lens on the nature of evil, and a specific breed of evil. I’m breaking this chapter into only two installments. One on the character of the personalities in it, and another about the allegories present in some of the comments. This chapter does not entail one of those long analysis that requires many installments – and that surprised me just as much as I'm sure that it surprises you. What topic could be more complex than evil and the main villain of the first book? Shouldn't that deserve multiple installments? The answer to both those questions is yes. Unfortunately, because we are going chapter by chapter this particular piece happens to be about the Harkonnens and I hate to break it to anyone who is a "fan" of the baron's villainous status but, Baron Harkonnen is boring. Baron Harkonnen is simply just obvious as a villain. Like black hat levels of bad guy. No pun intended, he's the type of villain you can see coming from a mile away. Dune isn't exactly about the obvious enemy. We're definitely going to talk about him, but there is no warning needed for someone like the Baron. Regarding this chapter, what the Harkonnens are is an opposite of the Atreides. The Weaknesses of the Harkonnens are the Strengths in the Atreides, and vice versa. The Harkonnens are repulsive and scary, but they are not as dangerous as one would think. Not quite. They are close, but they are too petty and emotional to be a primary evil. If, in this episode, it seems like I'm getting irritable, it is because I seem to have reached a point where power plays and politics have become repellent to me. Perhaps it's the current political landscape, and by current I mean the past decade or two. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but there is a part of me that has reached an almost unbearable level of, how should I put this, impatience with people from all different groups and in all levels of power who would gladly watch the world burn for a tiny morsel of personal advancement. What I am going to do with this chapter is take this opportunity to discuss certain personality types which are relevant here. These tend to fall under the psychological diagnosis of antisocial personality disorders. Bear in mind that I am not a mental health professional, so my descriptions will not necessarily be entirely kosher. What I'm trying to do is define terminology at this point. In layman's terms we are more familiar with sociopath, psychopath, and narcissist. Depending on who you ask, narcissism and socio-pathology are interchangeable; I want to keep them separate for my own perceptions of subtle differences. With some variations on behavior, as well as differences in causes, these three conditions all tend to display some similar signs. All will have abnormally low levels of apparent empathy. All of them are manipulative and self-centered. For all intents and purposes,

Things are starting to get spicy in Dune, in more ways than one. In this week’s reading we get a glimpse into the lives of the evil Harkonnens and their evil ways. We are reminded that they are evil. Count Fenring tells a killer joke neither of our hosts “get.” Next is the ceremony for the Reverend Mother which, if Kris and Alia are not mistaken, ends in an all out orgy. Seriously?
