Today, as young age creationists work to promote their views, many Christians think we're nothing but an embarrassment to the cause of Christ and a stumbling block to the gospel. Old Earth Creationists (OEC) argue that the Bible does not commit us to a 24hr day view of creation days, but that the earth and universe is, as mainstream science predicts, billions of years old. Stephen Lloyd is a famed TV writer having written (and produced) for hit shows like How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family. His credits go far beyond that, and now he's trying his hand at something different. Stephen has just published his first novel, 'Friend of the Devil.' I really enjoyed this book. Specifically Stephen's writing style. There's no waiting around for things to get going. The action picks right up on the first page. Stephen has a great knack for giving you the backstory while the main story is going on. I say to him in this conversation that it's kind of like a mystery within a mystery. While I'm trying to figure out what's going on with the main story, I'm also trying to dissect the characters and learn more from them. 'Friend of the Devil' is available now and it's a perfect summer read. I don't think it's classified as a YA but I'd think it's also fairly accessible for teens as well as adults.

In 2016 at our Root Hill Youth Camp we had a number of evening speakers.   Stephen Lloyd, pastor of Hope Church Gravesend, spoke on the topic of Creation & Evolution.

Dr. Lloyd-Moffet and I chatted about humanity’s search for meaning, the sometimes madness of the mystics, and how, at the end of every wine lover’s rainbow, is a bottle of German riesling (though Stephen’s might still be Burgundy).

James and Nick are joined by Stephen Lloyd, chairman of the Young Republicans of Oregon and until last week chairman of the Multnomah County Republican Party. Unfortunately Stephen was recalled a week before recording for promoting diversity and inclusion on behalf of the GOP.

In 2017 The United States Department of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency concerning the epidemic of opioid addiction. That epidemic has greatly increased and, consequently, made terribly worse because of the Covid-19 Coronavirus disease pandemic. However, attention to the opioid epidemic was diverted due to the Covid-19 crisis. It is vital that we as the general public have a deeper and more expansive awareness of this disease so that we have the information and can seek the training that will help fight this epidemic. There are few people better to help us understand this disease and crisis than Wayne Smith, founder and director of Samaritan Ministry in Knoxville, TN. I interviewed Wayne about the HIV and Hepatitis C crises in episode 16 of this podcast. I encourage you to listen to that episode also, because, as you will learn in the interview, these crises are interlinked and can compound each other. The opioid addiction crisis has its roots the interplay of people seeking to control their pain, especially after medical procedures, of pharmaceutical companies's assurances that opioids were not addictive, of the medical community over prescribing the medication, and of pharmacies accepting prescriptions on too broad a basis. Sadly, there is also are unhelpful political disputes over treatment issues that hinder progress. Opioid addiction is not a moral failure but a disease that is treatable!
