In this episode, Josh Radnor discusses the messy parts of life and embracing imperfection and growth. Josh Radnor explains how, even outward success, fame, acclaim, creative fulfillment isn’t enough to quiet the deeper battles within. He shares how real freedom comes not from achieving perfection, but from making peace with the messy, unfinished parts of ourselves. From navigating identity and public image to sitting in deep discomfort. Josh offers a powerful reminder that a meaningful life isn’t built on external measures. It’s shaped from the inside out. Key Takeaways: Discussion on the duality of human nature and the internal struggle between positive and negative traits. The significance of thoughts and actions in shaping a meaningful life. The role of time in personal growth and self-perception. The complexities of self-image and public persona. The importance of embracing imperfections and the “messy” aspects of life. Reflection on the wisdom gained from aging and life experiences. The negotiation between acceptance and action in facing life’s challenges. Insights on meditation and the emotional challenges it can provoke. The value of community and shared experiences in personal growth and healing. In this honest and deeply personal conversation, actor, writer, director, songwriter, and musician Josh Radnor opens up about his journey away from pornography and alcohol, and the deeper realizations that led him there. Together, we explore the often-overlooked harms of porn — how it distorts intimacy, disconnects men from their emotional selves, and shapes the way boys grow into men. Josh reflects on the cultural messages that normalize these habits, the pain they often mask, and the liberation he found in stepping away. This episode is a call to curiosity, compassion, and courageous self-inquiry — for anyone questioning what true connection really looks like.Subscribe to Museletters by Josh Radnor- https://joshradnor.substack.com/See Josh Radnor on Tour: https://www.joshradnor.com/tour

Rob Huebel can currently be seen in the comedy feature film All Happy Families (costarring Josh Radnor and Becky Ann Baker) on VOD, but he is never out of sight for long. An improv comedian and actor par excellence who honed his chops at Upright Citizens Brigade, he frequently works with such pals as Rob Riggle, Paul Scheer, and Will Arnett. His movie credits include I Love You, Man, The Descendants and Keanu and his TV resume is packed with shows like Transparent, Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Leonard and Jessie found Rob to be whip-smart, warm and funny…in short, a perfect guest.

Tuxedo-clad, face covered in makeup, hair slicked and parted in the middle, jumping around a creaky stage, teenage Josh Radnor (now an actor, producer and director) makes a life-changing discovery: He can act. And he loves it. But what to do now? At 16 years old, all Josh knows is that his ambition to act is at odds with everything that surrounds him, and with what he thinks his family expects of him. He can't imagine the future he is born to live — that is, until a guidance counselor calls him into her office. With a stern order to never stop acting, Josh is seen for the first time. He must borrow courage from that high school guidance counselor until he finds his own courage onstage. If this episode resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you. "When I write songs, I put on a miner's light and try to make it around the next corner."Josh Radnor found fame playing Ted Mosby on "How I Met Your Mother," but he's also a terrific songwriter (and stage actor) with a new album Eulogy: Volume 1. Radnor stops by the podcast as we take a deep dive into his songwriting process. We talk about how his creative process as an actor intersects with his songwriting process, why he often starts with a lyrical idea and not a melody, and why procrastination can be a very good thing. Oh, and how food poisoning can give rise to a great song.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Josh Radnor over Zoom video!Singer-songwriter, actor, writer and director Josh Radnor has shared his new single “Learning,” a meditative exploration into embracing one's full range of emotions as a testament to true vulnerability. The new single will appear on Eulogy: Volume I, due out November 17 as the first installment in his double-album solo debut Eulogy: Volume I + II. Radnor spoke with People about “Learning” and his upcoming album, which they hailed as “an instructional booklet of sorts put to the sound of beautiful music.” Additionally, today he appeared on LIVE with Kelly and Mark to perform the new single and discuss his music career.“‘Learning' is my favorite song that Kyle Cox and I wrote together,” shares Radnor. “I think a lot of adults, especially men, have to do a kind of remedial class in the emotions they were once taught were weak and inappropriate to feel, namely loneliness, fear, and sadness. This is a song about reclaiming the right to feel the full range of feelings.”“Learning” follows the “devastatingly intimate” (Paste) “NYC” and rebellious lead album single “Red,” which Entertainment Weekly praised, noting, “Josh Radnor has taken his heartache and turned it into a milestone in his music career.” Produced and engineered by Radnor's Nashville friends Jeremiah Dunlap, Cory Quintard, and Kyle Cox, Eulogy: Volume I exudes the unquestionable sturdiness of timeless, storytelling-driven Americana, boasting anthemic melodies laced with electronic elements and idiosyncratic twists. Many of the songs on the album serve as goodbyes of sorts: a letting go of people, places, emotions, and ideas.Throughout Eulogy: Volume I, Radnor's grounded and intimate songwriting style blends the timeless art of existential questioning with relatable, down-to-earth narratives. Backed by sometimes rowdy, sometimes sparse instrumentation, there's an alluring sense of vulnerability woven throughout the album, each track well-attuned to the emotion that sparked its creation.Songwriting is nothing new to Radnor, who began making music in 2013 with friend and celebrated Aussie artist, Ben Lee. The pair released two albums as Radnor & Lee – a self-titled debut in 2017, followed by sophomore album Golden State in 2020. A dozen different songs about death. That's how one arrives at a title like Eulogy Volume 1. But not all deaths are equal. Some are metaphorical, representing a new beginning. Josh Radnor's first solo album finds him operating without the accomplished musical safety net that is longtime collaborator, Ben Lee. The actor/musician joins us to discuss relationships, psychedelics and the wisdom of middle age. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Josh Radnor's career has spanned television (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, HUNTERS), Broadway (DISGRACED, THE BABYLON LINE), film (HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE, LIBERAL ARTS), and music, recording both as a solo arist and part of the duo RADNOR & LEE. On this week's episode of ARTS EDUCATORS SAVE THE WORLD, Josh links all these forms of storytelling back to his graduate education at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and, specifically, to his singing teacher, Deb Lapidus, who inspired him -- and us -- with her wisdom. She tells us "I think that the idea of 'getting it right' is the thing that can really limit people as they are trying to do their work. For me the only way to 'fail' is to not try." Our first topic for 2005 is the classic sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Brad chose this after watching the whole series as it was aired, and then after reliving its brilliance on a second watch a year ago. We break down a couple of the early episodes, including the pilot, but we get into much more. Giff is also a huge fan, and now Pete is on his way as well. In addition to our discussion of the show, we each also share our top 5 sitcoms of all-time. Does HIMYM make the cut? Does your favorite show match up with one of us?
