On this week's episode of FOX Rehabilitation's Live Better Longer podcast we are joined by FOX's Jonathan Keller, PT, who takes us through his multi-year struggle with costochondritis. After playing tennis, Jonathan felt constant pain in his rib cage and major discomfort while breathing. After attempting to treat himself—after all he is a physical therapist—he exhausted a litany of options to ease his pain: X-ray, CT scans, speaking to past professors, medications, salves, and getting an ultrasound. Finally, Johnathan discovered The Backpod, an invention by Steve August, which he claims has been the only treatment that worked for him in his three years with costochondritis. With this experience, Jonthan then explains how he is now better equipped to help a patient who has a similar diagnosis, and to always dig deeper until an answer is found.

Today, I am joined by Las Vegas Juggler and Magician turned Christian Vegan Activist - Steven Lee August.  Steve's bio - in his words:  "Hi, I am Steve August. If this was a bio on my 50-year career as an entertainer, I'd have lots to tell you. I've juggled chainsaws in Rome and bowling balls in Japan. I've balanced burning barbecue grills on my face in Switzerland and on the David Letterman Show. Heck, I also cut a girl in half on Jerry Springer. Although I probably don't want to admit to that one. But that's not what I'm about today. Somehow, every crazy thing I do is getting ignored. My ethical life has become my new identity. By ethical, I mean, I'm a bible-thumping, vegan, animal activist. Yep...it could happen. It seems I am at a new “stage” in life that puts me on a new stage I never expected. Not as a variety entertainer, but as an activist speaker who fights animal abuse in the most unexpected of places, the Christian church! Why church? Having been a Christian for over 55 years, in 2008 I unexpectedly became a vegan based on what I see taught in the Bible. Being vegan in a church atmosphere stirs up a lot of aggression (but then, being vegan anyplace does that). So, I wrote a book called “Vegans Vs The Verses”. A handbook for vegan activists on how to deal with Christian hostility toward veganism, verse by verse. Now let's look at my credits because, what's a bio without credits, right? So, as a religious speaker or author, I have no accredited university training or seminary degree. I got Zilch to offer. Why should activists listen to anything I have to say? Because I am you. I am a vegan activist doing weekly outreach and I know these ideas work. Why should meat-eating Christians care? Because if I'm right, Christians are unwittingly supporting beastiality, gluttony, and horrific violence toward God's creation. Lastly, because I find compassion in the same scriptures, Christians find approval for animal abuse." iHunch is Very Common! Do Your Have It? An Interview With Steve August Bob interviews Steve August Physiotherapist from New Zealand about iHunch. Steve is the creator of the Backpod. The Backpod is a practical New Zealand innovation developed to address a problem which was either ignored or misunderstood for far too long. It has been developed by New Zealander Steve August, a physiotherapist for over 30 years', with extensive experience in treating back and neck pain issues. The tool has had an extremely positive reception in the professional community and from customers who have genuinely found a solution to a painful and debilitating physical issue. It is especially effective for the very common hunched back and/or tightened upper back that drives most neck pain and headache. Statistically, most people will experience this problem at some point; one in six people will be in acute pain right now; and everyone knows someone who is stooped and sore - usually hunching over a laptop, tablet or smartphone has an element of cause. A very unedited podcast this week. Weird things happen, but it is what it is! Hope everyone is staying healthy and happy :) I know I was being pretty nonchalant and laughing during this podcast (I swear I only know how to ignore my problems and make them seem less severe than they are), but costochondritis is very serious and scary and many people deal with pain for years. It doesn't show up on any scans, and many doctors will tell you it goes away with rest/painkillers and it's nothing to worry about, even when people my age, younger, and older end up in the ER because of it. It interferes with every aspect of daily life and can cause severe anxiety even when it comes to completing basic tasks. Flare-ups can be random and triggered by something as simple as bending down, picking up a backpack, or a car turning too sharply. If you also have this condition I am very sorry, and I know how difficult it is to fully understand why or how this happened and to deal with it every day (especially if you also have fibromyalgia or other pain conditions) I'm only just beginning to process how I'm going to work, exercise, and live with Costo while it's healing and the gravity of the situation. But I'm learning every day, and I've found some really helpful resources online that I've linked below, along with the backpod I'm using to stretch and recover. If anyone has any questions, information, or an experience that they want to share, please DM me or comment on the YT video linked below. If you’re a Founder or CEO of a company that is looking to scale their business, this episode provides some great insight and advice.  Steve August joins Sima on today’s show, which serves as a great refresher course on things that we might already know. Listen in for timely reminders on how to really consider the next steps for your business! Steve is the Founder and CEO of Steve August Coaching. Scaling Businesses in the Market Research Space For more than 15 years, Steve has been in the market research space and takes what he’s learned to help business founders and owners scale beyond what they’re able to imagine. Steve’s method is to examine, break down, and understand what’s going on in the business and the metaphysical life of the owner, then help the owner decide what changes need to be made, and the steps needed to implement them. Although Steve’s career paths previously focused on the creative application of technology, he entered the market research space quite by accident by way of his wife, as he explains. First Time Founder Journey Steve discusses the family business in which he started out as the marketing and tech guy. As blogs started making their way onto the web, he and his wife stumbled upon a shift that changed the whole dynamic of their business. Up until this time, online qualitative research was basically replicating focus groups in online space. Steve and his wife wanted something more: to take advantage of that opportunity to access those peoples’ experiences so that they had a very ethnographic view of it.  Once they started using this and speaking about it, it drew attention and others wanted to try it. This led to the development of the first product version in 2007.  Lessons in Selling Building a great business was not the same as building a great product, as Steve soon found out. He would soon discover what his strengths and challenges were as a leader.  In 2014, the product was acquired by FocusVision. FocusVision would later package it up with other products and resell it. Steve got to experience two exits due to his options: the first exit was as the Founder, and the second exit was as part of the Management Team. The lessons that came out of these negotiations, as well as his being part of a team negotiating the acquisition of other companies, is how he got into coaching. After he left FocusVision in 2017, people started asking him for his perspective on business matters, and he realized he had valuable information to offer.  Core Stories Your core story is what drives the proverbial bus. These are the ideas in our heads that say we’re not worthy, or we’re imposters or any other negative mental chatter that might have served to protect us in past scenarios, but now prevent us from moving forward. When you’re leading the company, you have to change your core story in order to change the trajectory of your company. You can’t have a path, the fundamentals, the vision, the right team, the right processes, and a plan of execution until you have clarity of yourself. Steve and Sima discuss scenarios where core stories can make us stumble, and ways to recover. Steve's Thoughts on Exits 1. Either be for sale or don’t be for sale. 2. You’re worth pretty much what the market says you’re worth, and the leverage you have. The Importance of Taking Time Everything is reactionary, putting out a fire. You have to get to a point where you can get perspective of your own situation, and that means getting a bit outside of your own situation. Going off-line for a time, taking time to meditate, or getting away, such as to Steve’s Digital Detox Retreat, gets you away from day-to-day thinking and helps you change the way you think and be more receptive to potential solutions. Sima loves to hear from her listeners with input, questions, suggestions and just to connect! You can find her at the links below!

I had quite a few interesting conversations highlighting specific companies that exhibited this year as well as a couple of speakers, Wells Fargo, IBM, etc. I hope you have a really good rest of your day and enjoy these short episodes. [00:42] Orlando. [00:43] My guest today is Colson Steber; Communications for Research is the name of the company. Colson, thanks for being on the show. [00:51] Thanks. [00:52] You got to tell me something. This is the morning of Day Two. Did you go to any content yesterday? [01:00] I went to Steve August coaching. [01:02] Tell me what you thought. [01:04] I loved the tools he introduced to us in the session but did not engage a lot with the conversation during the session. Struck up a conversation with him afterwards and ended up taking up the entire afternoon getting free coaching for about two and a half hours. [01:20] I hope you bought him a drink or something. [01:21] Unfortunately, not. We got interrupted a lot since we sat in the lobby and lots of people walk past us that were arriving for the conference. [01:27] Does the ROI for him, does that pay off down the road, you think? Like good feelings? [01:33] For him? [01:35] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean he's now in a coaching business. So potentially, right. I mean, I now know his story. He knows my story and by… [01:44] There could be work down the line. What was one of your big takeaways from the conversation? Because the ROI might be somebody listens to this show and then reaches out to Steve August for coaching. [01:56] We talked a lot about how to go deeper in my niche of agriculture sector research without abandoning everything else we can do and can service. [02:14] It's the classic mile wide, inch deep versus go really deep in a single thing. And you've got to do both in a lot of cases. [02:23] So, as I was mentioning to you directly before this, I'm rethinking my marketing strategy for 2020 significantly and working to move entirely away from this list of services-based website to what outcome do we create for our customers? [02:44] Dude, I mean that's a really… Okay, so, let's back up. Give our audience a little context of Communications for Research. What is it you guys do? [02:53] We add value by helping to plan research, communicate that plan in terms of the sampling plan and field work and how it's going to get executed and then providing services to do so. And I call that research logistics. The best example being working with researchers themselves, typically as third-party contractors to understand how they're going to access the audience, help them with the screening criteria and what we'll do,

In the latest episode, QRCA Views Podcast Editor Mike interviews Steve August, Chief Marketing Officer of FocusVision, about the history and future of qualitative research. A true visionary, Steve is a digital and mobile qualitative research pioneer. He created Revelation in 2007, the trailblazing online platform for mobile diaries, insight communities and bulletin boards. Revelation was acquired by FocusVision in 2014. With all that success, you might think that Steve's career started in research, but you would be wrong. Before Revelation, Steve was a singer/songwriter with a pretty eclectic background. He was a dude in the truest sense of the word who suffered from, as he calls it, career attention deficit disorder. He was into clay animation, video documentary, and webmastering in the very early days of the Internet as a commercial medium.  Prior to helping his wife Kimberly, in the market research business, he was in museum exhibit development. But I think it is people with those types of backgrounds who have the ability to see the world just a bit differently than the rest of us, who can spot problems that the rest of us can’t see and have the ability to put thought into action in order to pursue solutions. As part of our Halloween episodes, Haunting History Podcast is starting a series we will come back to occasionally based on Hauntings in  California. This week is The Ghosts of San Juan Capistrano. San Juan Capistrano, better known for its Mission and swallows that leave and return every year, is a town full of ghosts, legends and lore. The locals and residents not only speak freely of their neighbors beyond the veil, they cherish them. Join us as we travel back in time to when the legends began. Drawing of their lady in white, that started my search for and about Modesta Avila, some people say the picture above doesn't resemble the drawing, I disagree, the Modesta in the booking photo has to be terrified and looks like she had been crying. What do you think? I got this photo from San Quentin, their files say she was discharged 3/3/1892. I still want to know what really happened to her, I refuse to believe she died in prison. When I say I do research, I wasn't kidding, you can't even see all the paperwork, most of it regarding Modesta, maybe I should write a book on her!       Letter where her attorney says Modesta was pregnant Prison Census Record Asking for her releaseNewspaper Articles Special thank you to the Marin County Libraries and San Quentin State Prison   None of the photos on this page belong to Haunting History Podcast. I’ll admit it, I love a good story where the good guys win and Steve August is a good guy. I know this interview may be a bit “Inside Research” for you, but if you are looking to be inspired by the story of a guy who identified a need, built a technology to meet that need, and then sold his company to someone who saw the value in it then listen up! Steve is the founder of Revelation, a research technology company he sold to FocusVision – but he wasn’t always in the research business. In fact, before founding Revelation, he was never in the research business at all. He was a singer/songwriter making a living in clay animation, video documentaries, and even web mastering in the early days of the Internet as a commercial medium. Hell, before Revelation, Steve was in museum exhibit development and if that sounds interesting to you, wait to you hear it in Steve’s words! This episode of Uncorking a Story is brought to you by my book Uncorking a Murder. A detective short on time seeks to right a wrong in this "Serial meets Gone Girl" thriller. Buy it at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, or wherever you buy books online. Available in both print and e-reader editions. Enjoy the interview.
