‘Tall girls just aren't that pretty.'That's how we're made to feel or even what we're told growing up by our crush, our peers, even family and friends, and strangers. And it's not a one-and-done thing. In fact, it's recurring. We hear and feel this often enough for us to wonder: Does everyone have the same viewpoint of tall women? That we're these ‘big', awkward skyscrapers? Why? Why is this the case? I got 3 words for ya: Societal beauty standards. This is explained in a piece written in the Minnesota Daily by Sidney Clarke, who says, “height has been inextricably associated with a lack of conventional beauty.” Why is this the case? And how can we overcome this?Well, that's what today's episode is all about! Truthfully, being tall can be an isolating experience. I mean, it's very rare to have a moment where you can just feel like everyone else. Whenever you walk into a room, you're immediately noticed and get stares. People feel the need to make comments about your height. You see that cute fit your friends are wearing? Yeah, you can't wear that because it's not long enough. Experiences like these add up over time, causing us to feel like the odd one out constantly. Like the world treats you differently because of something you can't control. After a while, you start to wonder if there's a place for you or just anyone who can understand or relate or literally treat you like a normal human being. Today, I will be breaking down why many of us tall women feel this silent loneliness and why we shouldn't downplay this or pretend it doesn't affect us. Ok, was this a bit dramatic?? Maybe. But also not really. Because high school me/middle school me felt this way. Felt really isolated, felt like the odd one out. And I wanna say super early on that this episode is to not complain about being tall or hating on it. Because I know people will say “oh you're so lucky to be tall” and bla bla bla like I get it. For real. Being tall is a blessing but it also has its trying moments. People will call you the weirdest names. And say the most heinous things about your body and height. Strangers will stare and point at you in public. Even your friends will say/do some shady things. All of this is on top of the fact that you're hyper-aware of your height in public and are constantly comparing your height to your shorter peers. When living in a world where many people are shorter than you, it can be hard. Truthfully. If you can relate, I highly recommend checking this episode out! Check out this playlist of tall brands: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0fCZgSUAcqOJo3PFAz4zQhiNfJGZF5kw By the time this episode is up, my birthday will have already passed! Ya girl is 23 years old PERIODDDDDDD XDDDDDD. I had a whole thing over the weekend to celebrate my birthday since my birthday was indeed on a Tuesday EWUH lol so we had to work but if you wanna see what happened and some flicks and such, make sure you check out my socials. And don't forget to wish me a happy birthday! Alrighty, today we are talking about how some tall clothing is in fact not tall clothing. Over the course of the past few months, I've stumbled across a few videos of some tall girls complaining about how pants that were labeled as “tall” or “long” aren't actually “tall” or “long”. Like the jeans were not hitting their ankles. Not even close LOL. And I find this interesting because when we talk about tall girl problems in regards to clothing, we typically talk about how clothing brands don't cater to us at all. Like there's no tall clothing available at that particular store. BUT we don't talk about when tall brands do have tall clothing lines, but the items STILL AREN'T LONG ENOUGH. Now that's a whole different level lol because it's like why are you gonna label something as tall but it's not long enough?? Where did you get your market research from? Did you even do any market research?? Anyways, I will go deeper into why these brands have tall clothing lines that aren't actually “tall” and where we should be getting our clothes from instead. Okay, I have to ask – am I the only one? Am I the only tall girly who has considered height reduction surgery? Okay I was like 10 when I was actively considering it lol so there was no way that was ever really gonna happen but still. I hated my height so much that I genuinely wanted it. But thank goodness I didn't get it because NOW I really do love my height. So, what is height reduction surgery? Height reduction surgery is a procedure that aims to reduce overall height by removing a portion of a bone or intentionally damaging growth plates to stop further growth. And yes okay this is a real thing; go and look it up…or just listen to this episode. I honestly think there are several medical reasons why someone would get this surgery, such as to even out limbs that are at different lengths, but this procedure remains rare. Why?? Who knows. Maybe because of the various risks associated with it. However, the tall girlies are not looking to get this procedure for medical reasons. So why would they actively consider it? Tune in to the full episode to find out! And a big thanks to Sumissura for sponsoring today's episode! Finding clothes that actually fit our length and proportions is one of the biggest struggles tall women face. Because, let's be real, most big brands just don't get it. Today's episode is actually inspired by a couple of TikTok videos I've seen recently. It started off with a tall girl video-ing herself what text on the screen saying “me at work” or something of that sort. Then it cuts to screenshots of people (stock images of course) with things that these people in the workplace have said to her because she's tall. So things like “Oh I wish I had your height” or “Why don't you play basketball?” and so forth lol I thought it was funny; I thought it was a joke so I kept scrolling. Then I came across ANOTHER video of a tall girl talking about how she was in a meeting for work and that the person said “Oh, you're taller than I expected”. And then I was like oh…so stuff like this happens for real lol?? Do people actually make comments about our height in professional settings? Now, the thing is I'm mainly remote. I'm a freelance marketer and I go into some type of office, professional setting like one day a week. And that's only been happening for a few weeks. So I can't really speak on the experiences of being a tall woman in the workplace. So I did what anyone else would do and took my inquiries to the Internet - aka Reddit and you guys lol. So I asked y'all on Instagram what your experiences have been like in the workplace as tall women. Because let's face it, people say that tall people tend to be more successful in their careers, get paid more, etc. And by tall people, they mean tall men. Let's find out if tall women's experiences are the same or different. Tune into the full episode! One of the biggest struggles tall girls will ever face is fashion/clothing problems. Like we allllll know the struggle. It's pretty normal for us to walk into a store and see a petite clothing section, a regular size clothing section, even a plus size section, but we're like, where's the tall section?? So that leads us to take our search online. Half the time major brands lie about selling tall clothing. They literally just slap an extra inch of fabric and call it tall without considering our proportions. Or if you're anything like me, sometimes you find true tall clothing to be a little too tall :/// Lol it's like we can't win. Or can we?? Today, I'm partnering with Sumissura to see if it's the solution to our tall girl problems. Sumissura is a custom clothing brand that uses a made-to-measure system to create garments that are unique to your body. They use several years of algorithm training to calculate measurements based on your height, weight, age, and body type.I went through the whole entire process from designing my garments down to the smallest details like the buttons to getting the clothes delivered to me and trying them on. Today, we are joined by a special guest – a fellow tall girl named Heidi! We are talking about all things tall from fashion to media representation and even societal norms. Let's face it: as tall women, it can feel like the world is against us sometimes. Clothing brands rarely cater to us (although I will say that it's gotten better in recent years!). We're often depicted as villainous or masculine in the media. And people tend to make unwarranted comments and ask STOOPID questions regarding our height. And with most of the people around us being shorter than us, it's easy to feel alone. But the tall girl community remains strong as always! Plenty of us have experienced the same thing, and today, Heidi and I are ready to share our stories and provide advice on overcoming these challenges. Tune in to the full episode for more! It plays a part in your health, the type of clothing you wear, the opportunities you receive, and even people's first impressions of you. Yup, I said it, it even affects people's first impressions of you. People will literally treat you a certain way because of your height and many tall women feel as though they're treated unfairly or even discriminated against because of their height, which leads us to the topic of discussion: is height discrimination even real? And how does it affect tall women?Fun fact, I was actually stuck on what to talk about this week, so I ran a poll over on Instagram. Some of the topics I was looking to discuss included social media being bad for tall girls, what it's like being a tall woman in the workplace, height discrimination, and the tall family who lied about their height. And the topic of height discrimination BARELY won, indicating that I got some good topics here :) Anyways, HEIGHT DISCRIMINATION. Height discrimination, or heightism, is essentially people being treated unfairly or unequally because of their height. This can look like bullying or microaggressions, rejection in dating solely on the basis of height, and even people's perceptions of you being affected in the workplace because of your height. It can even affect whether or not you get a job or promotion! So is height discrimination a real thing? Does it affect tall women? Tune in to the full episode for more! As tall girls, we all know the struggle when it comes to fashion, right?
Today's episode is sponsored by Sumissura! Let's be real—as a tall woman, when was the last time you walked into a store and actually found clothes that fit properly? That's why so many tall fashionistas are turning to custom clothing for the perfect fit. But where can you find affordable custom clothing that's also sustainable? That's where today's sponsor, Sumissura, comes in. Sumissura offers a fully digital made-to-measure system, where you can design your clothes down to the smallest detail and see real-time visualizations before you buy, all without overproduction or waste. And we love a company that's all about sustainability! No more guessing, no more settling for clothes that don't fit quite right. Because after all, you're anything but standard.➡️➡️ Check out https://www.sumissura.com/en/ to dress the real you. A big thank you to Sumissura for sponsoring today's episode.Body Dysmorphia. When people think about body dysmorphia, they usually picture someone standing in a mirror fixating on certain parts of their body or obsessing over their weight or even just not even fitting into societal standards. But rarely do people associate this with height. While many people tell us that our height is a gift, body dysmorphia, sometimes coined as height dysmorphia, is something that tall women struggle with because our height can distort the way we see ourselves. So today, we're breaking down how body dysmorphia is ruining tall women's lives and how no one seems to give a f***. Tune in to the full episode for more on what exactly body dysmorphia looks like in tall women, what causes it, and how people are gaslighting us about it! ~~ALSO A DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that any of the people in this episode have body dysmorphia; I'm simply sharing examples of what COULD BE. Today, we are joined by a special guest: Christine Nelson! Christine is a fellow tall woman whose mission is to help women dress with confidence. And as a tall girl herself, she is hoping to do that for the tall girl community too! As a tall woman, styling can be challenging beyond just finding clothes that fit. Proportions play a huge role—tops that should hit at the waist may land too high, dresses might feel too short, and pants are often not long enough. Even when clothing is the right length, the way it drapes on a taller frame can be different from how it was designed to look. Oversized pieces can overwhelm, while certain cuts that flatter average heights may look unbalanced on our bodies. Accessories, like belts and shoes, also impact the overall look differently, requiring more thought into how to create cohesion. And then there's the societal pressure—tall women are often told to "tone down" their height, leading some to avoid heels or statement pieces that draw attention. Styling as a tall woman isn't just about putting together an outfit; it's about navigating proportions, confidence, and the limited options available in mainstream fashion. And our guest Christine is here to provide some expert advice about how tall women can dress to impress and feel good in their own skin through fashion! This episode is actually inspired by a few comments I've gotten on my socials over the past few weeks. If you don't follow me on my socials (like how dare you lol jk jk), I typically post podcast clips and commentary style vids so essentially much of my content is more commentary style in regard to tall women in society and so forth. Meaning that I often talk about the struggles we face. And there are two particular comments that stood out to me. One was under a TikTok video of me basically discussing how tall women aren't viewed as feminine and we try to overcompensate by hyper-feminizing ourselves and essentially acting in a way that just isn't natural to us. This person specifically commented that petite women are more feminine end of story and that I can't reason my way out of this AND I shouldn't try to convince men who don't like tall women to like them. And I'm like this video isn't even directed towards men nor did I even mention anything about a man lol. Chill out bruv. In another post (I was discussing how we hyper-feminize ourselves because people call us/see us as masculine), someone commented with a picture of a fake credit card with “victim card” on top of it. And I'm like Oh?? Haha ok???? I'm noticing a pattern here: people tend to dismiss our struggles, experiences, and insecurities.Anyways, so this does raise the question: are tall women's insecurities real? Why do people often dismiss them? I dive deeper into the answers in my podcast episode! Today, we are joined by a special guest, the founder and owner of a new tall girl brand called Larson, Camryn Larson! Larson is all about bringing what we're calling “timeless trendy” (yes, we coined this term during the episode lol) pieces to the tall girl community. Think of those cute outfit inspo photos you scroll past on Pinterest—Larson is making those a reality but designed ⭐specifically for tall women⭐.Because let's be real: the fashion industry is failing us. Whether it's brands that don't even bother to make taller options or those that try and fail miserably, time and time again, we're left disappointed. Camryn felt this frustration firsthand and decided to do something about it. Inspired by her college capstone project, she turned her vision into reality so tall women no longer have to settle for ill-fitting clothes or miss out on looking chic. But Larson is about more than just clothes—it's about creating a space where tall women feel seen, celebrated, and empowered to embrace their height without apologies. Today, well last night honestly, was a very sad day for many of us lol. TikTok officially went black. It was supposed to go black on Sunday January 19, 2025 (when I'm recording this) but it left the premises literally the night before lol. We thought we had time to download everything that night but nope we don't. UPDATE: The app came back lol. The president-elect saved it. There are actually loads of problems with the app now though soooooo we'll see how that goes ://// Anyways, onto today's episode. Today we are talking about the masculine stereotype that tall women often face and how they try to overcompensate that by being hyperfeminine. Ok ok lol I know that was a lot to take in but I promise it'll make more sense as we get more into the episode. This was actually inspired by a Reddit post by a fellow tall girl. She claims that people have jokingly called her a man. She's tall, yes, but she also has an androgynous style, likes gaming and cars, and so forth. Though those are just part of who she is, she's felt the need to overcompensate with femininity. Sounds like something that happens to most of us, or at least to me for sure. I've talked various times on this podcast about how tall women are often seen as masculine. Why? Because height = masculinity. The taller a person is, the more likely someone will see them as masculine. Nothing new here. However, not all of us want to be perceived that way right? Because that does affect not only the way people treat us but also the people who choose to be around us, the people we attract. So some of us want to be perceived as feminine and feel the need to display hyperfeminine characteristics and behaviors. What do these behaviors and characteristics look like in tall women? It's officially been about a week since I had a little “menty b,” lol. I won't explain too much because I'll likely update you on my socials and newsletter. But I am okay-er now. Just trying to keep going. I have a few exciting things like starting my new part-time job and working with a new client and so forth. It's kinda hard to complain though when there are fires in California, high congestion pricing in NYC, and people losing their income because TikTok is being banned. Speaking of which, yup, TikTok will likely be banned in a week. There was a hearing recently and TikTok basically said, we know we have to leave or sell to an American company and TikTok was like we're just gonna leave. Soooooo it's looking like they're leaving the premises :////// So yeah! Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Pinterest until further notice lol. Alright, today we are talking about tall girls and heels. You're probably like why are we talking about this??? Listen, this goes deeper than just what we wear. It causes deep-rooted insecurities of not just being judged for what we wear but also insecurities surrounding being tall. Let's get into it. “You're gonna be too tall.” “You're already tall; you don't need to be taller.” “Why do you even need to wear heels?” These are just some of the comments that tall women receive if they want to or choose to wear heels. But have you heard about the history of heels? They were actually meant for MEN. Yup, you read that correctly, heels were originally made for men. ***Just a little trigger warning, we do talk a little bit about weight in this episode. There is a tiny instance where one's weight is compared to someone else's. If this is uncomfortable for you, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE. Your peace is way more important. Today, we are joined by a very special guest; her name is Denvyr! She is a registered dietitian, former athlete, and certified tall girl! And while she works to help all women build their best bodies in the healthiest way possible for them, she also uses her knowledge to spread awareness about common misconceptions relating to the health and nutrition of tall women. Because let's face it, we aren't really educated on how to take care of our bodies. Or at least I wasn't. As a former athlete, she struggled with body image, especially because she was taller than all of the other girls around her. Between comparing herself to her teammates and seeing content from smaller fitness influencers on social media, she really wanted to shrink herself and her body leading to an unhealthy relationship with food. It wasn't until after college and after being an athlete that she realized that she is more than her weight and height and needs to treat her body with the care it deserves. And now she strives to help other tall women do the same. I will say with no bias that this was an extremely insightful episode. It has even helped me in a couple of ways regarding how I'm taking care of my tall body and I think it'll be very helpful for any tall woman. Make sure you tune in! This episode is quite literally based on a video on TikTok. However, I can't insert a video here lol so in summary a tall, curvy/plus-sized creator was discussing how the tall girl influencer space is a mess because people only hype up tall skinny/thin influencers. Meanwhile, they don't do that for the tall plus-sized folks OR people often fetishize these tall curvy creators. But first, let's introduce exactly what the tall girl influencer space is. It's essentially a niche community of content creators on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube who represent and cater to tall women. They often share the joys, experiences, and struggles of being a tall girl as well as clothing tips/outfit inspo, dating, and how to navigate the world with confidence as a tall woman. Now, this space is very very niche, but we're often misrepresented or overlooked in mainstream media. Hence why, tall girl influencers/creators try to portray what it's truly like to be a tall woman. However, not all of their content is about being tall, but most of it is. Anyways, so what's the deal with people only hyping up tall thin women? Are tall curvy/plus-sized women more likely to be criticized both online and offline? You're probably like ‘girl this is a podcast about height???” Yeah, it is but it'll make more sense as I go on. And just a quick disclaimer: I will be talking about weight in this episode. I will not be disclosing my weight; however, I will be mentioning numbers from an article relating to this as well as other people's weights that they've made public online. If this is triggering for you, protect your peace and skip this episode. Now, if you're curious about this, let's talk! We've all heard growing up ‘Never ask someone how much they weigh.' Because it's rude right? But when it comes to tall women, it's like this rule doesn't apply. Not only are creepy strangers asking for our weight, but some tall women are voluntarily giving out this information. Why is this a thing? Are we normalizing this or feeding into some strange obsession with tall bodies? To find out more, tune into the full episode! Let's face it, Pilates has been one of the BIGGEST TRENDS of 2024. And understandably so. Many people, both men and women, have been looking for ways to increase their strength and tone their bodies without putting so much stress on them that they feel very tired at the end of the day. And lowkey I've been there before lol. With the rise of the popularity of Pilates, especially with TikTok influencers, sometimes I question if Pilates is really worth it. Especially as a tall girl.Today I'm joined by certified tall girl Debi aka Tall Girl Pilates on Instagram. Debi is a Pilates and fitness instructor dedicated to helping tall women and women over 35 years old find wellness through fitness. She's certified through Balanced Body and holds an NPCP certification, which is the only National Pilates Certification Program out there. This advanced certification requires renewal every two years through continuing education, meaning she's always learning and growing—not just as an instructor, but as a person, too.As a tall girl, she's struggled with keeping up in fitness. She found it difficult to do certain exercises (like squats) as fast as her peers and to use machines that don't cater well to long limbs. However, she learned over time that exercising as a tall woman is going to look extremely different than it does for others and works to spread that message through her content. Remember the days when everyone wanted to become a model? I mean, it makes sense; everyone was so enamored by the glitz and glam of everything including travel opportunities, wearing pieces from your favorite famous designer, meeting influential people, doing cool photo and video shoots, building confidence, becoming famous, and so forth. But many people felt their dreams were “crushed” because they felt that they were “too short”. I can understand why they'd think that because when you see models, they'd have long, thin limbs and often look taller than their counterparts or the people around them. Not only that, but many agencies wanted to cast tall women. As tall women, we're often told that we should model because of their height. Simple. Makes sense, right? WRONG. What if I told you it might actually be hard because you could be too tall? Yup. You can apparently be too tall to model :/ Why? I just love knowing that every single year, I release an episode on Thanksgiving. I hope you're enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend, whether you're cooking, staying in, going out, etc. And with this weekend comes the start of officially going broke because, after today, we have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, probably some of the biggest spending days of the year.Unfortunately, I won't be participating in the mayhem this year because of a $600 repair I had to pay for on my car, but life, right? Many people argue that the Black Friday deals are no longer hitting as they've gone from 60% - 80% off in the 2000s to 20% - 30% off nowadays. But there's one place where we can see the first type of deals: fast fashion retailers. These retailers are known for bringing runway-inspired pieces to the consumer market, making fashion more affordable and accessible. And of course, one of the more popular ones we know of to this day is Shein. Shein is a global online fast fashion retailer based in China known for selling trendy clothing at very low prices. However, there have been various allegations about this brand involving labor exploitation, environmental harm, having harmful chemicals in their clothing, and so forth. Now that we know a little bit about Shein…Did you know that Shein has a tall section?? Well if you didn't know, now you do. I stumbled across a bunch of home renovation videos on TikTok the other day and this app knows me so well that it showed me a video of a tall family customizing their own home. Like from scratch. In the video, they literally had a picture of them sitting in front of the wood structure of their home. Their home consisted of raised countertops, 8-foot doorways, 10-foot ceilings, etc. and this creator in particular documented her whole journey of creating her tall friendly home. And she's not the only one. There was a whole slew of videos with tall people customizing and renovating their homes from raised countertops to higher cabinets to tall-friendly furniture. There were even tall friendly apartments with features that catered to tall people. But how much does this stuff cost? To raise your doorways, it can cost up to $1,000 per doorway. Raised countertops? Up to $3,000. Raise the height of your ceiling? Several THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. And we haven't gotten to other specialized features like closets and tall friendly furniture. In this episode, we explore how expensive it can be to live and exist as a tall person. Home customizations. Clothing. Healthcare. Transportation. Food???? This topic has been brought up in my DMs and my comments over the past few days. I did plan on speaking about this topic at a later time; however, because of the recent requests, I just took this as a sign to do this now. Just a few quick disclaimers that are bulleted: I identify as Black and I am mostly black genetically. While I am mixed, I am most in touch with my Black side so I do say I am Black. While I do face some of the struggles of being a Black woman, I do acknowledge that colorism exists. If you didn't know, I am a light-skinned woman. I am light with light-colored eyes, so I am aware that there are times when I'm treated differently because of how I look. This episode will discuss slavery. If this is a sensitive topic for you, DO NOT tune in to this episode. Protect your peace babes. “Being tall and Black isn't for the weak.” “People give so much hate to tall, dark-skinned girls.” These are some of the comments and messages I've received over the past few days. And now's the time to address them. The way that people act towards us is largely due to the stereotypes given to both Black women AND tall women. What are these stereotypes? And how does it affect how people see tall, Black women? Quite literally just a little witch hat. But that's the most I've done in years! Fun fact, I haven't dressed up for Halloween since middle school; in recent years, I've literally printed out a picture of the map of India and taped it on my shirt. Get it? India the person dressing up as India the country? Clever, right? But this year I wanted to try so I literally bought a little witch hat lol.Make sure you stay safe out there this Halloween!Today's episode is actually fitting for today. If you're a tall girl and you need a last minute costume, just be a villain or monster. It's perfect. Okay, that sounded wrong - hear me out because I have a quick take:Tall women are monsters.Tall women are scary. Tall women are evil. This is what the media wants us to think by primarily casting tall women as villains in movies, especially Disney animated films. My question to you is: Have you ever noticed that in quite a few animated Disney movies, the woman villains tend to be on the taller side while the princesses and woman protagonists are on the shorter side? Are you seeing a pattern or am I just bugging? No tea, no shade to Disney movies or any other movies!! This is just my personal opinion. So, how did this topic come about? For today's episode, we are talking about tall people and sports as well as my journey as an athlete. “Do you play basketball?” “Oh you must play basketball or volleyball.” Those were two of the most common comments I've gotten as a tall girl growing up and honestly even at this age. And you'd be surprised just how disappointed some people were when I'd tell them that I don't. Like I'm sorry…but you're a random stranger. Why does it matter to you??? It's pretty common that when somebody sees a tall person, they think that that tall person has some type of natural athleticism or would be good at sports. Well, newsflash…not all of us play or have played sports. Crazy, right?? However, there was a time where I did play sports. And that's what we're talking about today. I want this episode to be for the tall girlies who feel some type of pressure to play sports because of their height or have other interests besides sports. So apparently, there are people who think that tall people are privileged? Like there's a term called ‘tall privilege'. I guess I'm not tall enough to know what it is since it's the first time I'm hearing about this. Since it's my first time and it may be your first time, we're learning this together. I looked it up on Google and AI suggestions said that ‘tall privilege' is essentially the advantages taller people may have over shorter people. It's often interchangeable with height privilege, height bias, etc. If you've heard of pretty privilege, it's similar to that just with height. Tall privilege can show up in different areas of life, but it seems to be a big thing in the dating world. Scrolling through TikTok, videos really highlight this in that they tend to claim that men often get more attention and more choices in the dating world if they're on the taller side. So how does tall privilege affect tall people? Do tall women experience this? Tune in to the full episode for more! So for today's episode we are talking about tall women being called “big”, why that's an issue in my opinion, and how we as tall women can remain confident and remember that some people don't mean it in an insulting way. First and foremost, as a community, let's stop calling tall women “big”. To be honest, “big” and “tall” are 2 completely different things in my opinion. Let's just stick with “tall”, okay? It's fairly offensive to call a tall woman, or any woman for that matter, “big” and here's why: “Big” for a woman has a negative connotation to it in two ways. First, we're taught from a young age that we're supposed to be small, not seen, out of the way, and honestly just there when needed. So, when you have a tall girl, who already sticks out, feels out of place, and is ridiculed for something she naturally has (which is her height) and then you point out the fact that she's “bigger” than her peers, “bigger” than the people around her, how do you think she's gonna feel? If you said self-conscious, you're right. The second way is that “big” is often tied to the terms “fat” or “overweight”. I personally don't like using those terms because society has placed such a negative connotation with them, but because “big” is associated with such negative words, we're going to take it as an insult. And honestly I feel like this is something very very common for a tall plus sized woman. Why do people even call tall women “big” to begin with? How can we respond to those who call us “big”? Today's episode was actually inspired by an event that occurred in the past week. I'm trying to update/upgrade my wardrobe and for real this time because I know I've been saying that for the ENTIRETY of this podcast, but we got our stuff figured out so we're doing it this time. Anyways, I went to Loft Outlet which is basically a store with last season's/last year's clothing items from the actual Loft store. I was looking around and looking at some items and then I stumbled upon the petite section. So I'm looking at this like okay….where is the tall section???Crickets. Nowhere to be found. And that's the issue with many brands. They will have the standard sizes of course but sometimes, they'll have a petite section in stores. And no tall section, which makes ZERO sense to me because it's like if you're gonna cater to one end of the height spectrum, why not cater to the other end as well? Anyways, the big question here is why don't big brands make clothing for tall women? In this episode, I do a deep dive into this question and so much more. Make sure to tune in! Today, we are talking about online harassment and bullying towards tall women. Yes, online harassment and bullying. With the rise of social media and the Internet, it's easier than ever for people to communicate with others from all over the world, including complete strangers, in both public and private settings. People are able to leave comments, send messages, make posts, and more and this makes way for cyberbullying and online harassment. First, let's start off with: What is Online Harassment? According to the Durham University, online harassment is the use of information and communication technologies by an individual or a group to cause harm to another person. This can take various forms, such as derogatory comments, unsolicited advice, stalking, and even sustained harassment. So, what are some examples of online harassment towards tall women? Do tall women get bullied because of their height? Tune in to the full episode for more! What happens when the rewards for doing something don't show up until way later? Or if it's harder to tell you're making progress on something, like saving money, applying for jobs, buying a house? David and Isabelle are joined by Isabelle's husband, Bobby, who also has ADHD, swapping stories about delaying gratification, shame spirals, and how we ruminate and distract AND hyperfocus for the win.---- The only thing that's reinforced are tasks toward goal completion. What could I do today that would move me toward that goal? The only question: is it moving toward my goal? If so, it's effective (or if not, not effective), rather than good or bad. For example, David venting about his paper to his friend helped him be on task, rather than not being on task and going out to eat at Burger King—it's still about the paper (it's still on task). How effective is it toward the task? More effective than going to Burger King and not talking or thinking about the paper at all. Long term goals are specifically hard for folx with ADHD because of the delay of gratification. The more you wait, the more you feel like you're failing. Neurotypical folx will read that waiting as normal or to be expected. Bobby names things like saving for retirement, saving for a house, paying off debt—the progress is so slow it feels so boring. David relies on his awesome neurotypical partner to save for a house by taking what they would pay for a mortgage every month and saving whatever that was on top of their rent (so if their Lego House rent was $10, and they wanted a $30 mortgage, they saved the extra $20 every month). Isabelle wonders if neurotypical shame spirals go as deep as neurodivergent ones—for example, David's goes to homelessness, and she notices that neurotypical folx notice how close they got the finish (like getting the brick at the bottom of the pool during swimming lessons), and factor that in, whereas for her it's the outcome that matters and she goes straight to everyone she loves is going to abandon her and ditch her. David names that he has a few shame spirals—for work, it's homelessness, for relationships—it's abandonment. This leads to black and white thinking, which is more than just worth mentioning, it's the difference between “not getting a snack” to “failure begets failure begets FAILURE…” And this extreme is dismissed so often, people don't get it. As a therapist you'd never say “it's not a big deal,” you're invalidating those feelings. What we ADHD folx feel, our level of intensity, is REAL—instead of “it shouldn't hurt that much,” it's “that's extremely frustrating.” Bobby is slurping all this data up, and taking the feels, and feeling them…and that's what you do. You acknowledge how intensely you're feeling them. Bobby sits in the role of “Novice EveryDay-er…Every Day Dude” (which is what it says on his nameplate). And not just acknowledging your feels, but acknowledging the intensity of how strongly you feel them. Feel the feeling, know it's more intense, or it might not be felt by other people. And do what you need to do to regulate—-as opposed to let it go. It's like telling someone with ADHD not to look at the ceiling (we all looked at the ceiling). Telling someone to fight something is not effective, it can go on forever in a power struggle. Isabelle describes that she prefers the phrase self-soothe to self-regulate, because it can be a pressure to return to masking and appearing as though you are neurotypical or ‘regular.' David is wondering if self-soothing is the task, actually—you might not be able to soothe or make the injury out of the way, and instead get grounded again. It's not about getting out of your ADHD mindstate, it's about lowering your hyper focus and lowering the pressure to act. David does this intermittent fast now and just got distracted about the food he wants to eat (schwarma)—he's not pretending he's going back to the point and instead is focusing on food and saying “Schwarma.” The group decides they will say “Schwarma” any time this happens, if they can remember, which Bobby reassures them he will. Isabelle then describes that she thinks Bobby circumvents working memory problems by using some of the rules of comedy, like callbacks, and then…she also loses the plot and goes back to telling her story. Isabelle describes fixations on movies or things across many genres and seems to do with what the movie makes her feel. She is reminded of one of her roommates in college who was a lovely person, but would fixate on one or two somewhat depressing emo songs and for Isabelle, she didn't like the emotional state it would generate. So she recognizes that she goes through fasts almost, of media that stirs up feelings because she gets so sucked in, so she avoids fiction and movies and music for a while. Then, it's like a switch flips, and she gets sucked in and rewatches things over and over again. Like the Netflix film “Tall Girl.” Because she is tall. And it hooked her (despite not being the best movie maybe, but she liked it). And she found time, when she has no time, to watch it four times in the span of a week. What is this? David's like: it's the definition of hyperfocus. It's that you fall into it intensely. It's that you do the same thing over and over again, or a genre—like David only watched shows that only made it one season. Isabelle can daydream for five hours straight while driving, she can rewatch things in her head. David is naming that this is not the safest driving technique, but David is wondering if there were any changes in this span that changes your capacity to move around? Were there things that gave you more unstructured time? Were there things you were avoiding or wanting distraction from on an emotional level? When all of those things happen, hyperfocus can kick in for preservation, like you're going to get sucked into the Full Metal Alchemist because you don't want to think about life after graduation. And in another way, rumination can kick in when you don't move around during the day, which turns into a type of thinking at the end of the day, those thoughts can be a way to get out that energy. Everyone is going to kick into hyperfocus for different reasons and it will vary based on types and on the environment that they're in. Isabelle connects very much to preservation idea of hyperfocus, how survival-related it feels and the times she was in a fandom over a particular show or movie that relate to major life transitions, like graduation, or career changes, or life changes. David names that it's probably much easier to remember the relationship she had with those things than the transitions themselves. David names that this is a superpower. It usually happens when you're sitting in helplessness. Are you sitting in your helplessness, or are you sitting in “these amazing actors and actresses are nailing it?” Isabelle insists Bobby will watch it and grow to love it. It can happen when you don't have structure or your routine changes, and it provides structure—the reality is, for David, it's important to go wild if you really are in a state of helplessness—then go to town watching all the shows. But if you're using it to avoid a task, that's a whole other story. Today we are talking about tall girl stereotypes. You know the comments like “Wow, you must play basketball!” or “Oh my gosh, you're so intimidating!” or “Are you a man?” That last one lowkey hit a lil different and not in a good way. But I'm sure that if you're a tall woman you have been stereotyped like this one way or the other. And this episode is for you! We're gonna be talking about the most common stereotypes of tall women as well as the issues and harsh truths about them. Because in some way, shape, or form, if you're a tall girl, these stereotypes have affected you whether it be confidence, self-image, etc. But first… What Is A Stereotype? A stereotype is a widely held yet oversimplified and generalized belief or idea about a particular group of people. So essentially, when you see a particular group or a person classified into a particular group, you make an assumption based on that classification. And this can be based on race, gender, profession, or even height. Often, whether good or bad, stereotypes are perpetuated by the media and pop culture. But today, we're only focusing on the effects on tall women. So what are the common tall girl stereotypes? And why are they detrimental to tall women? Tune in to the episode to find out more! This has been an ongoing thing for who knows how many years. Time and time again, there are these public interviews where people are stopped in the streets—whether tall women, average-height women, or even men—and they're asked what their ideal height in a partner is. I'm assuming this is a way to gather some type of information as to which height is most attractive to people.I feel like a very common misconception is that all tall women inherently prefer tall men or view shorter men as less attractive or less capable. Is this the reality? We have a very special guest with us today: chiropractor and business owner Dr. David Lipman! Dr. Lipman is the owner of Physical Evidence Chiropractic. Since his youth, he's been very active and encourages others to be active as well. In his practice, he focuses on identifying the root causes of pain and treating them using a wide range of services. Today, our topic of discussion is posture, and we'll briefly discuss some of the root causes of pain related to our posture.Because, as tall people, one of our major struggles is posture, right? Whether it's our neck, back, shoulders, or even hips, poor posture can slowly but surely wreck our bodies. And for the most part, it's not even our fault! Sure, we may slouch over a computer often or sleep incorrectly. But our day-to-day lives also negatively impact our posture. Low sinks and counters. Low desks. Weird car seats. Chairs. Our short friends (no tea, no shade—still love y'all!!). It seems like we can't escape those pesky pains. In this episode, David dives deep into the importance of posture, the reason behind why people have certain types of pains and bodily issues because of their posture, and tips to offset these negative effects. Let's talk about tall girl fan pages! Lol, you're probably like 'what????????'Let's start with the basics: What Are Tall Girl Fan Pages?Tall girl fan pages are social media accounts that showcase and "celebrate" tall women—kinda. These accounts often feature images, videos, and stories of tall women, with height as the main point of attraction. While these pages might appear to provide a sense of community, they can also have a darker side, promoting objectification and unrealistic standards. These fan pages are prevalent across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and even Flickr. Lol, do y'all remember Flickr? I'm telling you, when I was in middle school, Flickr was EVERYTHING. That and VSCO. If you weren't on those sites, you were not cool, lol.ANYWAYS, tall girl fan pages are scattered all over the Internet, and they tend to have a lot of common themes—primarily featuring extremely tall women. This often leads to the misconception that a woman has to be 6'4” and up to be considered tall. But that raises an important question: What is considered tall for a girl? In my opinion, it's not just limited to those who are 6'4” and taller. In this episode, I explore how tall girl fan pages can promote unrealistic standards of tall beauty and fuel unhealthy self-comparison. Also, what are these tall girl fan pages really for? Are they meant to support and celebrate tall women, or are they simply catering to the male gaze? I talk about this and more in the full episode!Subscribe to A Tall Girl's Newsletter: https://atallgirlspodcast.beehiiv.com/subscribeLet's stay connected: https://beacons.ai/atallgirlspodcast Leave a review and let me know how tall you are: https://atallgirlspodcast.com/reviewsLast week's episode - "Why The Internet Is A Scary Place for Tall Women": https://atallgirlspodcast.com/episode/why-the-internet-is-a-scary-place-for-tall-women

And then, us tall girlies feel very uncomfortable and judged because of our height. The point is to bring awareness to the uncomfy sides of the Internet for tall women and discuss how that can influence people's thoughts and actions towards us.
