"Black Stars' assistant coach Didi Dramani addresses Tariq Lamptey's controversial call-up."
Premier League duo Thomas Partey and Tariq Lamptey have been left out of the Black Stars 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Chris Hughton named his squad for the tournament on Monday, January 1, with 12 days away from the start of the tournament. Partey has not played a competitive game since Ghana's October friendly games against Mexico and the United States of America. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ksspod/support

The 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be hosted in Ivory Coast in 2023, features the former Chelsea defender, who is presently recovering from an injury, on its Black Stars roster.

Welcome to the Team Ghana EU Podcast - news, content, updates & everything exciting and significant football and Ghana related. Committed to excellence. AKWABA! In episode 71, with the news of Inaki Williams, Tariq Lamptey and Mohammed Salisu declaring their availability for Ghana I created a diary entry. It wasn't planned, as we had a pre-recorded episode. But I was great, even if brief, to take a step back/look back in hindsight at the progress. The Team Ghana EU Podcast is a bi-weekly podcast which aims to provide digestible bite size content. On this week's show we catch up on the latest in the 2023 Afcon qualifiers, with Nigeria making a winning start and Egypt losing to Ethiopia. We speak to Scotland-based defender Frankie Musonda who committed to play for Zambia, and made his debut in these qualifiers. Also we talk about Brighton's Tariq Lamptey deciding to play for Ghana. And Stuart on the tough schedule for players in Europe.
Ghana made it through their qualifying campaign thanks to an away goal from Thomas Partey and now find themselves in Group H with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea. This is Know Your Teams where history, the route to the tournament (in this case the 2022 FIFA World Cup), coaching, players, and opponents are detailed and discussed in how it could all make a difference in how far they could go. So be sure to subscribe as this weekly team preview series continues. You can watch this in video format here: https://youtu.be/XKSLZgftaEI Also, since Ghana has so many rumored players that may wind up making a decision to play for the team prior to the World Cup, this is discussed as well before making a final decision on a best-case scenario for the tournament too, which is the main reason why this is episode goes over the hour mark. * This was recorded on the same day Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi had confirmed they would play for Ghana. At that time the other players mentioned at the end of the video including Tariq Lamptey had not been confirmed yet. I will be giving updates to any teams that are covered in this series in later podcasts. *

Welcome back to the FPL Lounge! The hybrid is back again as we review GW14 and preview GW15 (The Preview starts at 31:04). In the GW14 review, the lads review the players on the radar, with some serious 'rotation' (or are they genuine injuries?) among City assets, while the lads continue to wax lyrical about Tariq Lamptey, trash Dan James and differentiate between the Liverpool captaincy options. (31:04) The GW15 Preview keeps several GW14 players on the radar, with the additions of Watford's budget forwards and - pinch me, it's 2008 - Ashley Young. They swim against a claret and blue tide, before repeating the same captaincy segment they have for weeks and finishing this time with a very yawny Who The Heck Is Stat?! If you like what you hear, do let the guys know on Twitter or Insta @FPL_Lounge and be sure to subscribe so you always get episodes in advance of the Gameweek deadline!
Episode 109 and it's a feisty one
Pete and Russ are back on Zoom to dissect the latest disappointment at Villa Park, where Albion bossed possession and general play once again but also presented us with the same issues in the final third. We ask is Pascal Groß‘s time up as a regular first teamer, how can we best enhance Tariq Lamptey's returning presence with good link ups, should we finally ditch our striker flops (Locadia and Connolly) in favour of our up-and-comers (Sarmiento, Tolaj, Ferguson) and will our loaned out attackers be able to come back and be added to the mix (Zeqiri, Mitoma, Khadra, Sima). We also note Ole being a Gunnar - driving off the cliff while at the wheel - against another shocker from Harry ‘Slabhead & Fingers-In-Ears' Maguire , bemoan Crippled Phallus's immunity to deserved red cards (that's 3 this season now!), lament Sussex footy's woeful weekend and ask if the penalty-encroachment-retake rules need changing.Stand or fall! Russ and Pete review the weekend's action as Albion came a cropper at the hands of the quick firing Cityzens, who brutally punished mistakes in the first half to go out of sight. On the upside there were some good individual performances, especially from the subs, which included Tariq Lamptey - back with some proper sizzle and fizz! There's also a look at the rest of the weekend's PL results, a round up of non league Sussex action and of course a nice Newcastle rant again, as Palace fans displayed a banner protesting the takeover over Newcastle, their weekend visitors.Oh and W e also previewed the upcoming League Cup visit to The Kingpower this midweek.Stand or fall! Episode 6! Let's dive right into it! On the eve of Gareth Southgate's lose-lose decision, tasked with selecting a small cohort of English players from a vast pool of talented options, Will leads a discussion on the challenges of being in his boots. Our hosts start by laying out the candidates for the coveted and controversial right back role, introducing somewhat speculative "feelings" that accompany each one, with a few stats to more firmly back them up. They've prepared a bit of a label for each player for those that are unfamiliar with them. The conversation steers into the impact that the media and fans can have on selection. The challenge here, is not only that we must pick a starter, but that we must select a strategic trio with logical grounds. Yet, much of the Twitter and journalistic space will be ravenously waiting for "their player" to be called up! In the English Premier League, the entertainment comes, in large part, due to the widespread quality of so many sides--but this can prove compromising when we've got 10 teams all expecting their talismen to earn a seat on the plane (instead of the tighter handful of 2-4 teams in other leagues across the continent that share those kinds of expectations; think the far more centralized Spain, Germany, etc.). Making matters worse, the melting pot of Premier League tactics is, once again, a huge driver for viewership, but proceeds to painfully hamper the continuity of style and methodology in England. To add more fuel to the fire, there's the odd dynamic of continuous squad churn that derives itself from the selection process itself. Many fans will write and use the narrative that suits them at any given time, demanding that their over-performing player from this season get the call-up, but that their creaky, experienced veteran not be left behind either. A concoction of high expectations, far too many options, and a modern fullback role that's hardly well-defined means that Southgate's got quite the choice to make. The second half commences with Martin's introduction of the more fundamental options here: picking duplicates of varying degrees of quality vs. bringing different roles to fit the mold. As a case study, he remarks upon Barcelona's potentially better usage of Dembele and Trincao as an example of the latter, juxtaposed with Argentina's futile #10 overloading to illustrate the former. This idea then segues into the notion of identity for national teams, as the lads discuss how the idea changes and intensifies as we introduce the pride that comes with geographic borders. The two agree that this is something utterly critical to develop and often fall back on.The chat now dives into the contrasting benefits and drawbacks of both youth and experience. They touch upon the value of locker room figures like Adil Rami, but concede that prodigies certainly bring a vitality and eagerness to the forefront. The public always loves a good Theo Walcott. Finally, the verdicts. Martin proposes an elaborate plan to avoid injuries in the tournament itself and pin specific players against specific teams as a result of their specific likely matchups. Will counters that this is a terrible idea, and that the group ought to stick to one game model, instead. They fire back and forth for a while until ultimately agreeing on the only objective truth there is in this debate: it's hard to envy Southgate as he makes this lose-lose decision!Join us to hear Will's atrocious intro, a car-scam update, a Tariq Lamptey cameo, a Liverpool fan trying to keep his fanbase grounded, a compelling Swedish anecdote, and two vastly distinct approaches to solving this problem.Find us on Twitter @touchlinetheoryFind Martin on Twitter @MG_theory, and Will @WA_theorySubscribe and send us your feedback!

Charlie - who hosts this week - is joined by Liam. The pair discuss Brighton's first win at Villa Park, who should replace Tariq Lamptey against Liverpool and if fouling players is *actually* a problem. Oh, there's a return of Strictly Come Lancing too.
With James Rodriguez potentially missing Everton's trip to Southampton, the Fantasy Ramble panel have had a lot to think about in terms of how to shape their teams this weekend. Jack is joined by Taylor, Jamie and Raph as they discuss a Leeds side without Kalvin Phillips, a lack of consistency for both Manchester United and Chelsea and how Mesut Özil deserves justice. For their Wildcard Options, the panel wonder how effective Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be without the support of James Rodriguez and Richarlison, how likely they are to pay for Fulham vs Crystal Palace on Box Office and how a battle between Grady Diangana and Tariq Lamptey could pan out. Finally, our hosts attempt to nail down their Locked-In Eleven, suggesting defences from Wolves and Liverpool this weekend, while also banking on Neal Maupay to score against West Brom.
As we approach the end of the summer transfer window, the boys are getting worried. Man United STILL haven't completed the signing of Jadon Sancho (despite Ed Woodward seemingly having been talking to Dortmund since 1859) and Burnley seem to not be in the mood to sign anyone. We analyse the move of Ross Barkley to Villa, the rumours of Tariq Lamptey going to Bayern Munich and discuss the latest round of games including Liverpool v Arsenal, City v Leicester and Burnley v Southampton. A weekly football podcast that doesn't take itself seriously. This week on the Fantasy Ramble, our panel discusses the student vs master battle between Guardiola and Bielsa, the lack of gametime for Donny Van de Beek and Liverpool's impressive start to the season. Jack Donnelly is joined by Struan Garvie, Graeme Sinclair and Taylor Murray to preview this weekend's fixtures, discussing City's depleted squad options, a potential kickstart for Spurs' season and which of Liverpool's fullbacks is best suited for your FPL squad. They also agree on this being Werner's last week to score before he gets transferred out of their squads, talk up Tariq Lamptey (once again) and make a case for Pablo Fornals to make it into your team. They finish with their Fantasy Team of the Week, highlighting Wolves and Arsenal defenders as must-play options as they both play at home to Fulham and Sheffield United respectively.
Despite what the Premier League table shows, Brighton have started the 2020-21 season, erm, brightly. We're joined by Albion Analytics (@AlbionAnalytics) founder Liam Tharme to muse over Tariq Lamptey, discuss how Ben White is settling in and the recruitment structure which has seen the Seagulls accumulate a wealth of under-23 talent. Manchester United got its first Premier League points of the season thanks to a 100th-minute penalty from Bruno Fernandes to finally win 3-2 in an enthralling game against Brighton and Hove Albion.Brighton opened the scoring, a coolly finished Neal Maupay penalty giving the hosts the lead before Lewis Dunk put the ball into his own net to level the scores just before half-time.Marcus Rashford's solo goal put United on top, and Brighton thought it had snatched a dramatic late draw thanks to Solly March's header before Fernandes' penalty, 10 minutes after the 90-minute mark. While it eventually secured the win, Manchester United lived on the edge, with Brighton hitting the woodwork five times during the game and had one awarded penalty overruled by video assistant referee (VAR) and another potential one waved away by the referee."We left so much space for them to play, we were not as aggressive, we gave away two goals" Fernandes told BT Sport after the game. "We have to do much better."Brighton did very well but maybe because we are not aggressive as we want. We need to recover more balls, press better, lose less possession. Maybe they deserved more. The point is score goals not hit the bar. Sometimes you have to have some luck."An up and down affairAfter being surprised by Crystal Palace last week, Manchester United was hoping to make a more positive start on the south of England against Brighton. But it was the home side who made the brighter sight, as with Leandro Trossard smashing the ball against David de Gea's left post -- the Belgian midfielder would go onto hit the woodwork twice more.In the opening two games of the season, the woodwork has stopped as many shots for Manchester United's opponents this season as goalkeeper de Gea."Unbelievable, the feeling I can't describe, we were the better team today," Trossard said. "We deserved at least a point, it's a shame. Sometimes it's just not your day."And Brighton eventually made the pressure count -- only after Mason Greenwood had a goal ruled out for offside -- as Maupay chipped the penalty, which was awarded for Fernandes' foul on the exciting Tariq Lamptey, past the despairing de Gea.It took United just three minutes to equalize though, with Dunk only able to deflect home a cross from Nemanja Matic. After half-time, Rashford's mazy run and finish gave the Manchester side the lead. However in the 95th minute, Brighton thought it has won a point right at the death, as March headed in a cross from Alireza Jahanbakhsh. But an even later penalty, spotted and awarded via VAR after the on-field official Chris Kavanagh had blown to signal the end of the match, was smashed into the top corner by Fernandes.Fernandes' goal at 99:45 minutes is the latest scored in the Premier League since Juan Mata's strike for Chelsea against Norwich in August 2011, scored in 100:03 minutes. The result would be even more painful for Brighton as it had a penalty of its own overturned by VAR in the second half, after Aaron Connolly was adjudged to have been fouled by Paul Pogba, only for referee Chris Kavanagh to change his mind."We got away with one. Maybe one point we deserved, we didn't deserve more. But the character deserved more" Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told BT Sport."Last season we had too many draws, so that is a big plus for us. You have to be happy Jose is not here to measure the goal posts."They are a difficult team to play against. We don't have the legs and sharpness, but we will get there. We have plenty of work ahead."text by Ben Morse, CNN
This week Graham and Lauren reflect on another busy week of football across the top 4 English Divisions. They discuss Tariq Lamptey's great start to the season, review more controversial VAR happenings and, of course, more 'Barnet of the Week'.
After one week back, the boys are already scratching their heads on how to handle their weekly free transfer, with selections being tougher than ever. Jack Donnelly is joined by Struan Garvie, Taylor Murray and Cameron Wanstall to discuss the upcoming set of fixtures in the Premier League, including a massive clash at Stamford Bridge, Wolves' chances against Manchester City and whether or not Fulham can bounce back against Leeds. They also discuss Tariq Lamptey vs Allan Saint-Maximin, which Manchester United player would be best to bring in and whether or not Aubameyang can get a double hat trick against West Ham. They finish things up with their Fantasy Team of the Week, highlighting both Everton and Leicester defences for the upcoming gameweek.
