Ryan Walters is back for another episode of The ASEAN Game, and on this episode we dive deep into one of our favourite international tournaments, the AFC Cup. IN THIS EPISODE... UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers, Group H, Games 5 & 6 The Huuhkajat battled to three more important points to remain among the contenders at the top of qualifying group H. The 1-0 win away to Kazakhstan saw a dogged Finland control possession and take a late win, through Oliver Antman, in a scrappy match. Roles were reversed against Denmark, who dominated possession and goalscoring chances but had to wait until late before securing the winning goal. Lukáš Hradecký pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Denmark but Finland's lack of cutting edge around the box, ultimately, meant they had no reply to Pierre-Emile Højbjerg's long-range strike. In Episode 1460, Sean Woodley is joined by Oren Weisfeld (Sportsnet, Yahoo! Sports Canada) to discuss the Canadian men's national team ahead of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Japan-Phillipines-Indonesia and whether this year's squad stands a chance of breaking a very long drought of major tournament success for the men's team. Off the top, Oren pitches a skeptical Sean on why it might really be different this year. Will a committed core group of players, and the super talented backcourt duo of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray be enough to buck the trend of underperformance? Next, they discuss the impact of Nick Nurse being replaced as the head coach by Jordi Fernandez without much runway before the World Cup, and discuss why Dwight Powell and Kelly Olynyk might be as important to Canada's chances of success as anyone on the team. Lastly, they lay out Canada's pathway through the tournament, where they stack up both in Group H alongside France, Lebanon and Latvia, and in the pool of teams from the Americas, from which only two will earn a bit in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.Come hang out in the Locked On Raptors Discord and become part of our growing community of sickos just like you: https://discord.gg/hHqufXSdSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/LOCKEDONNBA or enter promo code LOCKEDONNBA for a free white tech hat with any purchase. Hooraaaaaay!!! We did it! The Footy Travelers connected and chatted with at least one fellow soccer fan from every country playing at World Cup 2022 - and this episode is the final proof. In this edition of FTP at WC22, we chat with an expat family from Portugal living in the Middle East, a couple of trael buddies from Ghana who feel some type of way about Luis Suarez, the entire Uruguayan FIFA Fans' Cup team (who feel pretty much the opposite about Luis Suarez), and a friendly fan leader from Seoul, South Korea. Not gonna lie, we dipped our toes into the 'potentially controversial' in this one, but cooler heads prevailed and we came out unscathed. Enjoy this one - it might be three and a half more years until we get a chance to do it again. Foot(y)notes: 07:07 Portugal In case you're curious about the kids' "candy" comments, we thought we'd clear the air a bit - Muslims CAN eat candy, just certain kinds. 13:07 Ghana In case you need (or want) to remind yourself why Luis Suarez is public enemy #1 in Ghana. 24:11 Uruguay More Suarez shithousery (aka Suarez biting people). 35:56 South Korea Son Heung-Min shared the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool's Mo Salah - except that all of Sonny's goals came from the run of play (Salah scored 5 pk's)
It's Jimbo, Tom Williams and Sasha Goryunov on the pod after Day 13 of the World Cup.South Korea score an unbelievably late winner to progress from Group H leaving Uruguay to do some Seoul searching. Korean journalist Sungmo Lee gives us his reaction.Uruguay's win over Ghana wasn't enough for them and the Black Stars were awarded another penalty against the South Americans...which the they missed. Just a little bit of history repeating…In Group G, Serbia succumbed to Switzerland 3-2 despite two goals from their superb centre forwards Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic. The Athletic's Charlotte Harpur gives us on-the -whistle reaction from the 974 stadium. Finally, we look ahead to the knockouts! The first last 16 tie sees the US play the Netherlands. The Athletic's Jeff Rueter and our old Dutch pal Michiel Jongsma give us the respective perspective from the Amerikee and Holland.Produced by Steve Hankey Hosted on Acast. Musa and Ryan begin in Group H (03:20), which saw Uruguay exit the tournament despite beating Ghana, thanks to a stoppage time Hwang-Hee Chan goal, which sent Korea Republic through to the knockouts. Next up, it's on to Group G (19:09), where Switzerland beat Serbia 3-2 in a thriller and Brazil secured top, despite losing to a late Cameroon goal, which resulted in a memorable Vincent Aboubakar sending off. The Group Stage of Qatar 2022 concludes on Friday. In Group G, Brazil will be looking to complete a three-game sweep when they take on Cameroon. Serbia will need to beat Switzerland if they want to make the Sweet 16. Group H leaders Portugal are safe and Ghana can hold onto second place if they avoid defeat against a disappointing Uruguay side. Jimbo, Sasha Goryunov and Duncan Alexander gather to summarise Day 9 of the World Cup.We had two contenders for game of the tournament on the same day!Cameroon took the lead against Serbia but the Serbs scored three in succession to lead 3-1 only for Cameroon to drag it back to 3-3.The result probably means both sides are out but Vincent Aboubakar did score a lovely lob.Ghana looked like they were sailing to victory with a 2-0 lead over South Korea heading into half time. Then two goals in three second half minutes saw South Korea level before Mohammed Kudus scored his second, Ghana's third, and secure what could be a massive three points in Group H.Massive because Portugal's win over Uruguay sees the Portuguese qualify and leaves Ghana in pole position to follow them through.Plus we look ahead to the biggest game at the tournament tomorrow… Iran vs USA.Bassil Mikdadi gives us the Iranian perspective on their winner takes all game. And The Athletic's Sam Stejskal gives us the perspective from the American side.Produced by Charlie Jones & Steve Hankey Hosted on Acast.
