Born in 1911, Mildred Ella Didrikson Zaharias, who went by the nickname “Babe,” was a phenomenal, and confident athlete. Babe won Olympic gold in track and field, was an All American player in basketball, pitched in exhibition games in Major League Baseball, and won 17 straight women's amateur golf tournaments, before turning pro and co-founding the LPGA.In a society that didn't welcome women like Babe, she nonetheless forged her own path and won the hearts of fans along the way. I'm joined in this episode by History Professor Dr. Corye Perez Beene, author of the biweekly newsletter Awesome American Sports, who makes the case that Babe was the greatest American athlete who has ever lived. Disclaimer: there is no actual singalong, but Adam and Ed do interview Frank Turner, the musician and songwriter responsible for that line from his song “The Gathering,” part of his ninth album F.T.H.C. releasing 11 February 2022. Prior to the interview, Adam and Ed debut their new, more formal trivia game "The Karaoke Trivia Bullpen" with some questions on songs Frank Turner has covered, and then cover some topics at the intersection of karaoke and professional music: is a karaoke performance a cover song? What do musicians have to say about karaoke? What are the barriers to making music, and creativity in general? Essentially, the concept is the same as in any episode: it's about loving music, and how people engage with it (and everyone knows how Adam and Ed engage with it). Frank might be a surprising choice for a karaoke podcast, but Adam and Ed are both big fans of his work. They heard an interview Frank did with Liam Bird on Liam's podcast Punks in Pubs--Frank told a story about getting kicked out of a karaoke bar after singing Meatloaf (which they've excerpted here). He expands on that story, tells another unhinged karaoke story, and then the three of them sort out all sorts of music and karaoke related questions. He even left a piece behind--starting in Episode 4, the quickfire game has a question rephrased because, not surprisingly, Frank Turner turns a phrase more cleverly than Adam and Ed do. FTHC is the ninth solo album from British punk and folk artist Frank Turner. Initially striking out as a vocalist in the punk rock band Million Dead, Turner then turned his focus towards a folkier, acoustic-based solo career. Since that time, he has reached international acclaim as a chart-topping, award-winning singer-songwriter. Taking inspiration from early '80s US hardcore band logos, FTHC stands for Frank Turner Hardcore. text by Ben Morse, CNNAfter its campaign began in the most horrifying circumstances, Denmark's dream run at Euro 2020 continued on Saturday with a convincing 4-0 victory over Wales in the last 16.Striker Kasper Dolberg scored twice either side of the half time break and late goals from Joakim Mæhle and Martin Braithwaite wrapped up the result as Denmark looked the better side throughout.Wales was limited to half chances by a stout Danish defense, with Gareth Bale coming closest early in the encounter, but his effort just went wide of the post. Harry Wilson received a red card late on for a cynical challenge.Denmark's qualification for the quarterfinals comes two weeks after its star midfielder, Christian Eriksen, suffered a cardiac arrest during its game against Finland in the group stages. Eriksen has since been discharged from hospital after undergoing a "successful operation" and having been fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)."It's completely crazy," Dolberg told DR afterwards. "I actually don't know how I feel. This is total madness. It's surreal. It was here it all started for me, and to play here again in this setting was insane."Dominating throughoutWith Danish fans permitted to travel to Amsterdam, the Johan Cruyff Arena was predominately made up of Denmark supporters.Wales captain Bale offered his country's well wishes to Eriksen ahead of the game, handing over a Wales shirt with Eriksen's No. 10 and with the words "Christian, Get Well Soon."After some passionate national anthems, the game started with fervor and pace, with both teams exchanging chances in the opening minutes.Bale's shot went whizzing past Kasper Schmeichel's post but it was Denmark that broke the deadlock. In the 27th minute, Dolberg received the ball, turned and ran at a static Welsh defense before firing past an outstretched Danny Ward. The goal seemed to spur on Denmark, closing out the first half with heavy pressure chances. But it didn't have to wait long to double the lead, with Dolberg capitalizing on a poor clearance from Neco Williams to score his second goal of the tournament.Needing goals to get itself back in the game, Wales pushed forward, only to the benefit of Denmark.Mæhle and Braithwaite scored from inside the area to make the result more emphatic and qualify Denmark for the quarterfinals.Visit CNN.com/sport for more news, features, and videosWales midfielder Wilson got a late red card for clipping the heels of a Danish attacker."It's not how we wanted the game to go, from our point of view we started very well and then the game changed." Bale told BBC afterwards."We tried to play in the second half but made a mistake to concede which killed the momentum on our side. To finish how we did is disappointed but the boys are frustrated and angry understandably, I'd prefer us to go out that way."Denmark will face either Netherlands or Czech Republic in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the quarterfinals.

The Legend of the Green Lanterns Ben invites his two friends Greg and Nick to talk Green Lantern with him and Robbie. One of the things that set the Green Lanterns apart from other heroes, super teams, and families as Nick points out, is that anyone can be a Green Lantern. That there are always thousands of Green Lanterns that represent an unending cast of diverse races, ideologies, and creeds. The cast talks about their favorite green lanterns and some of the best stories for new readers to get into the series. From the original Alan Scott to the greatest Green Lantern of all time Hal Jordan. The Green Lantern corp is filled with dozens of amazing characters. One of the strengths it has over Batman or Superman is that if you're not into one character, there are so many others that may interest you. Kyle Raynor, Guy Gardener, John Stewart, or Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz. If you're not a Green Lantern fan yet, take another look until you find one you like. The HBO Max Series The round table of Green Lantern experts also takes some time to talk about the forthcoming Green Lantern series coming to HBO Max. Some of those Lanterns include Guy Gardener, Alan Scott, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz by name. It also talks about how Sinestro, the former Green Lantern and one of the most iconic villains of the series, will be featured as well. The show will focus on the history and origins of the Green Lantern corp. It's currently unclear if fan-favorite characters John Stewart and Hal Jordan will make an appearance or be referenced in the first season. But the Green Lantern Roundtable doesn't think that will be much of an issue. Subscribe to The Other Identity on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Manchester United got its first Premier League points of the season thanks to a 100th-minute penalty from Bruno Fernandes to finally win 3-2 in an enthralling game against Brighton and Hove Albion.Brighton opened the scoring, a coolly finished Neal Maupay penalty giving the hosts the lead before Lewis Dunk put the ball into his own net to level the scores just before half-time.Marcus Rashford's solo goal put United on top, and Brighton thought it had snatched a dramatic late draw thanks to Solly March's header before Fernandes' penalty, 10 minutes after the 90-minute mark. While it eventually secured the win, Manchester United lived on the edge, with Brighton hitting the woodwork five times during the game and had one awarded penalty overruled by video assistant referee (VAR) and another potential one waved away by the referee."We left so much space for them to play, we were not as aggressive, we gave away two goals" Fernandes told BT Sport after the game. "We have to do much better."Brighton did very well but maybe because we are not aggressive as we want. We need to recover more balls, press better, lose less possession. Maybe they deserved more. The point is score goals not hit the bar. Sometimes you have to have some luck."An up and down affairAfter being surprised by Crystal Palace last week, Manchester United was hoping to make a more positive start on the south of England against Brighton. But it was the home side who made the brighter sight, as with Leandro Trossard smashing the ball against David de Gea's left post -- the Belgian midfielder would go onto hit the woodwork twice more.In the opening two games of the season, the woodwork has stopped as many shots for Manchester United's opponents this season as goalkeeper de Gea."Unbelievable, the feeling I can't describe, we were the better team today," Trossard said. "We deserved at least a point, it's a shame. Sometimes it's just not your day."And Brighton eventually made the pressure count -- only after Mason Greenwood had a goal ruled out for offside -- as Maupay chipped the penalty, which was awarded for Fernandes' foul on the exciting Tariq Lamptey, past the despairing de Gea.It took United just three minutes to equalize though, with Dunk only able to deflect home a cross from Nemanja Matic. After half-time, Rashford's mazy run and finish gave the Manchester side the lead. However in the 95th minute, Brighton thought it has won a point right at the death, as March headed in a cross from Alireza Jahanbakhsh. But an even later penalty, spotted and awarded via VAR after the on-field official Chris Kavanagh had blown to signal the end of the match, was smashed into the top corner by Fernandes.Fernandes' goal at 99:45 minutes is the latest scored in the Premier League since Juan Mata's strike for Chelsea against Norwich in August 2011, scored in 100:03 minutes. The result would be even more painful for Brighton as it had a penalty of its own overturned by VAR in the second half, after Aaron Connolly was adjudged to have been fouled by Paul Pogba, only for referee Chris Kavanagh to change his mind."We got away with one. Maybe one point we deserved, we didn't deserve more. But the character deserved more" Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told BT Sport."Last season we had too many draws, so that is a big plus for us. You have to be happy Jose is not here to measure the goal posts."They are a difficult team to play against. We don't have the legs and sharpness, but we will get there. The dynamic duo of Robbie Landis and Ben Morse is back once again for another episode of the Other Identity. The Other Identity is a podcast about exploring the culture created by comic books. This week Robbie and Ben exchange blows and put their partnership at risk. They take all 23 canon movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and attempt a ranking of them from worst to best. From the first Iron Man and the forgotten Hulk movie, up through Captain America: Civil War (aka Avengers 2.5) and onwards to the Endgame. The Marvel Cinematic Universe boosts 23 movies of varying quality. While there may be stinker or two among them, they are for the most part an assortment of great superhero flicks. Robbie and Ben attempt to come together as one cohesive unit and rank them definitively. Spoilers: that doesn't happen, compromises must be made and they're made as soon as the 22nd entry. Warning: this episode of The Other Identity will anger you. You will seethe with rage, you will shout at no one in particular and likely stomp off to social media to tell us how wrong we are. Good. Do it. Listen to this compromised version of the rankings and know that no matter how you think Avengers: Age of Ultron should be...it's not high enough. Know that Ben did Doctor Strange a great injustice. Know, good listener, that the perfect rankings of these movies do not exist, but this is probably as close as anyone will ever get.

The dynamic duo of Robbie Landis and Ben Morse is back once again for another episode of the Other Identity. The Other Identity is a podcast about exploring the culture created by comic books. This week Robbie and Ben are joined by Kevin once more for a different kind of episode. This week we pit the Justice League Vs the Avengers. Justice League Vs Avengers It's a question as old as comic books themselves. Who would win a fight against the two greatest teams the world of nerds has ever known. The real answer is probably that they wouldn't fight...but both movies, comics and TV shows have given us interesting reasons why some caped crusaders might duke it out. In order to facilitate the discussion the Ben stepped back and served as the intermediary of the debate. Robbie would take the Avengers and Kevin the Justice League. Prior to the show both Robbie and Kevin submitted a 7 member roster of former Avenger and Justice League members. Ben was in charged matching up the two rosters to form interesting duels and it was then on Robbie and Kevin to debate who would win each. Who Will Be The Victor? The match-ups weren't as straight forward as you might think, with the first bout against the son of the Magneto, Quicksilver and the Justice League's tech-infused Cyborg. Ben didn't make any decisions on who the winners were based on the arguments. That's up to you, the listeners. Listen to the episode and decide for yourself who you think won the most matches. In the Justice League v Avengers, who would come out on top? If you leave us your reasoning, based on the episode or your own reasoning, we might even read it on one of our shows. Below are the full match-ups you can expect in this episode of The Other Identity. Robbie's 7 Avengers: Quicksilver, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, The Hulk, Scarlet Witch, The Vision and Thor. Kevin's 7 Justice League Members: Cyborg, The Flash, The Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Martian Manhunter and Batman.

This week Robbie and Ben talk about how Batman is the least interesting of the Bat-Family. Plus Robbie prepares to read Marvel's Secret Empire. They discuss what makes the Hulk the Hulk. What are his greatest strengths as a character and how has the Immortal Hulk redefined the character. This Weeks Reading Each Week on the Other Identity Robbie and Ben talk about what they're currently reading. Ben just wrapped up the Night of the Monster Men Arc in Batman, Nightwing, and Detective Comics and had a revelation. He thinks that out of all of the Bat-Family, Batman is actually the least interesting of them. Robbie agrees but points out that each Bat-Family member relies on Bruce and Batman in some way to push their own stories forward. After putting out a poll on social media, Robbie has decided to read through Marvel's Secret Empire arc. However, he's somewhat daunted by the nearly 300-page Prelude book. The Immortal Hulk The main topic of this week's episode is the Jade Giant himself, the Hulk. Robbie and Ben spend some time discussing the strengths (not literally) of the character. Why he works or doesn't work as a hero and the best way to present Bruce Banner and his green alter ego, be it on the page or on the big screen. They eventually come to the current run of the Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing. Ben explains what makes this series so great and how it manages to seamlessly roll in and explain years of Hulk cannon while also expanding and exploring new lore for the Hulk. Robbie compares what Ewing has done with the Immortal Hulk to what Geoff Johns did with the Lantern Corp when he introduced the color spectrum.

This week Robbie and Ben talk the latest news headlines in the comic scenes. Plus, has Warner Brothers and DC Comics found it's replacement for Ben Affleck's Batman with Michael Keaton? What Are You Reading? This week on The Other Identity, Robbie and Ben discuss some of the recent titles they've been reading. Ben has immersed in Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing and convinces Robbie to give a try as well. Immortal Hulk is currently on Issue #34 and Marvel recently announced the series would be ending with Issue #50. For any fans who love the series, they can rest easy knowing an Immortal She-Hulk series is in the works. Robbie talks about his experience with Kelly Thompson's run of Jessica Jones. He compares her writing of the Blind Spot and Purple Daughter story arcs with what he loved about Ultimate Spider-Man. DC Universe and Batman Robbie also takes Ben through some of the big headlines that hit the comic and superhero world over the past few weeks. They start with a comment from Zack Snyder about his DC Movie Universe. The Robin suit fans see in Batman v Superman belongs to a dead version of Dick Grayson, the original Robin. Ben and Robbie express their displeasure in this news as Dick Grayson goes on to be a hero in his own right, Nightwing. They cover other stories like DC entering the podcast space and San Diego Comic Con going online. Finally, rumors are out that DC has found it's replacement for Ben Affleck's Batman. These rumors come on the heels of the Flash Movie starring Ezra Miller. Originally, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was rumored to play Thomas Wayne's version of Batman in the Flashpoint movie. But now rumors are coming out that Michael Keaton will be taking up the cape and cowl in Flashpoint. However, he won't be portraying Thomas Wayne, but will simple replace Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne.

The dynamic duo of Robbie Landis and Ben Morse is back once again for another episode of the Other Identity. The Other Identity is a podcast about exploring the culture created by comic books. This week Robbie and Ben dig deep into the effect of loss and death in comics. Some of the most famous story-lines in comics revolve around the death of a hero. This week Robbie and Ben caught up with they've been reading in their spare time. Ben continues to work through his read of the Blackest Night storyline. Robbie finished his #InBlackestNight challenge weeks ago, but Ben has barely scratched the surface. As Robbie continues his #DCRebirthEraChallenge he talks about how much he's loving Supergirl. He also expresses his hopes and dreams for the series long-term. Several months ago a discussion sparked on Twitter about comic book deaths. Whether or not bringing back a dead character invalidates the weight of the original death. One of Ben's favorite stories is the Death of Barry Allen in the Crisis on Infinite Earth's crossovers. Robbie thinks that the Death of Spider-Man in the Ultimate Timeline is one of the best stories from Marvel. Where the two differ, is that Robbie doesn't think bringing a character back hurts the original story. They discuss at length, if Barry Allen's resurrection is worth it or if Wally West actually suffers more as a character. It doesn't stop with death in comics though. Despite the short history of the comic book movie or TV show, there are a few examples to draw from there as well. Robbie and Ben use the death and Resurrection of Agent Coulson from Avengers and Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to keep the discussion going.

The dynamic duo of Robbie Landis and Ben Morse are back once again for another episode of the Other Identity. The Other Identity is a podcast dedicated to exploring the culture birthed by comic books. From the pages themselves to the silver screen, superheroes invade every part of our lives. This week on the Other Identity they talk about some of the recent news headlines from the comic book industry. Including rumors that Daredevil could show up in Spider-Man 3 or what 'other worldly villain' Christian Bale could be playing in Thor 4. Plus, Robbie and Ben talk about what they've been reading lately and why you should jump in. Ben talks about what he loves about the current run of Superman and Robbie laments another delay in JJ Abrams Spider-Man. For the finale, special guest Norris Howard returns to talk about the impact comics have had on him growing up, from the first comic he ever read to how powerful the messages in X-Men have become. He also talks about black creators in the comic book space to celebrate Black History Month.
After a season break the Other Identity has returned! Robbie Landis is joined by a former guest now turned full-time host, Ben Morse. Together they discuss what comics they consider to be essentials for any comic book fan, new or veteran. They also discuss the best places to jump into the world of comic books and how to best overcome the daunting nature of 80 plus years of history. Finally, the Arrowverse has become a staple of comic book culture but what do Robbie and Ben think of it?

This week Kyle and Matthew talk about the '90s cultural force that swept the UK: Britpop! In their journey, they are joined by Meltdown’s resident British person Jake Robinson and the lovely Ben Morse to discuss what constitutes a proper Britpop song. Jake explains his two camps of Britpop: "Swaggery" bands and "Cheeky Fun" bands. They have a nice retrospective on the Blur/Oasis war. They also break down the less talked about Verve vs. Verve Pipe war that was waged here in the United States. They talk about the origins of Britpop, the subgenres and offshoots. Kyle and Jake recommend the BBC documentary “Seven Ages of Rock” as an excellent primer for rock music from an English perspective. They also debate who does a better version of the song “Common People”: Pulp or William Shatner. The gang also chats about the lasting effects of Britpop on both sides of the pond and Natalie learns the horrible truth about Engelbert Humperdinck. Cause maybe, this is gonna be the podcast that saves me. And after all, you’re my Rader-wall. Ben Morse, editor at Marvel.com and, best of all, friend of Booked, returns to gives us a rundown of the happenings at New York Comic Con and we try to pry a bit at some of the interesting events that were announced. The key word there is try. After having missed San Diego Comic Con, Ben tells us about getting used to the Con feeling and energy again, especially with Marvel hitting big the day before in Times Square with Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Not only did legends like Kurt Busiek show up but we got the monster announcement of Secret Wars hitting Summer next year. Did we get Ben to give us some teasers? No, no, we did not. Ben likes having his job at Marvel a little too much and we can appreciate. We also discuss some of the other events in 2015 like Civil War, Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies and Planet Hulk where we get a team up with Captain America as they fight Hulks with Tom Selleck mustaches? We also have some current Marvel talk as Ben informs us of how awesome Secret Avengers writer Ales Kot is, teases what's to come in Avengers and X-Men Axis and we think maybe Magneto has pushed the line too far now, even at the cost of mutant life. Lots to chat and speculate about in this episode, so get reading those panels!
We get both sides of the conversation this time as our pal, Marvel.com editor, Ben Morse returns to talk to Stevil and Rob Lobster. The excitement grows for Guardians of the Galaxy, less than a month away, plus our hosts get Ben to weigh in on the rumored slate of DC films coming our way. Our guest also gives us an ingenious way to categorize your friends! Cowabunga!!
Technology. It's supposed to make our lives easier, right? Sometimes it does the opposite, and decides not to record both sides of a Skype conversation, creating more work for us! Don't fret, my pets, we fixed it up real nice. Mr. Ben Morse from Marvel.com is the victim of our computer's mutiny, and we've cut up and stitched together our great chat with him. We talk X-Men, Doop, GOTG, and Novacorps. Enjoy our franken-podcast!
Kenji is native Japanese and at the age of 19 walked in to a car dealership in Japan with only 2 thousand dollars in his pocket, asking what might be available in his price range. In the far back corner of the lot was an old red CX Citroen. It was love at first sight. After meeting the woman who would become his wife and moving to the United States, in 2002, Kenji and his wife Marion acquired FPS, French Parts Service. A company that was founded in 1986 by Ben Morse. Today after 28 years FPS continues to provide Citroen collectors with a complete inventory of parts for Citroen 2CVs via their website at FPSWest.com Listen to Kenji talk about his love with these unique French automobiles.
It was absolutely Marvelous to speak to this week's guest, Ben Morse, editor of Marvel.com.
