Alan Davies is known for his natural, relatable storytelling skills across the page, the stage, and the screen. The comedian is a staple of British television, with roles on the long-running ‘Jonathan Creek' and popular comedy panel show ‘QI'. It's been more than a decade since Davies last did a stand-up tour, but he's happy to report it's going well. “It had been so long that it was feeling, beginning to feel like a gamble,” he told Jack Tame. “I spent some time unpacking stuff from my childhood, doing a, writing about it, and that process took a while and changed a lot of how I viewed myself, and what I wanted to do, and what I wanted to say. This show, ‘Think Ahead', was created at around the same time Davies was writing another volume of his memoir ‘White Male Stand-Up', which deals with issues from Davies' childhood, career, and his adult life. “And I've got to a place now where I think the show's really quite sort of, it's a bit richer and deeper, and better than stuff I've done before,” he explained. “I'm really sort of proud of it.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dr. Friday reminds us not to wait until the last minute. With 2024 filings still open and 2025 nearly done, now is the time to plan. Transcript G'day, I'm Dr. Friday, president of Dr. Friday's Tax and Financial Firm. To get more info, go to www.drfriday.com. This is a one-minute moment. When we're talking about taxes and we're looking at 2024 tax filings still on the table, as well as the tax year of 2025, which we're only a few months from the end of, we need to be thinking both years. Even if you're delaying your preparation or filing—physically hitting the button to do your 2024—you've only got a few more months to make changes. So if you're thinking Roth conversions, you're thinking about contributing money to your 401k, that has to be done through paychecks if you're an employee. These are the kinds of times now. Tax planning is what you should be doing for 2025. Otherwise you may miss that window. 615-367-0819. In today's episode of the Second in Command podcast, Cameron discusses a common misstep in leadership: blending strategy and planning into one concept. While many leaders mistakenly see them as interchangeable, Cameron makes a compelling case for treating them as separate disciplines—each vital in its own right. Strategy is about creative thinking, exploring future possibilities, and setting direction, while planning deals with the tangible steps needed to execute that vision within a tightly focused 12-month window. The conversation emphasizes that while a vivid vision helps align a team around long-term aspirations, the execution must happen in short, realistic sprints. Leaders are encouraged to develop strategic goals with a two- to three-year lens, but to avoid placing rigid plans beyond one year due to the unpredictable nature of business environments. The discussion lays out a blueprint for how to reverse-engineer big-picture objectives into actionable, time-bound tasks, down to the staffing needs and recruiting timelines.Curious how to stop wasting time on plans that never land? This episode breaks down the right way to balance long-term vision with short-term execution—listen now and transform your planning mindset. If you've enjoyed this episode of the Second in Command podcast, be sure to leave a review and subscribe today!Enjoy! In This Episode You'll Learn:Why strategy involves long-term thinking and a SWOT analysis, while planning is about making those strategies actionable within a 12-month period. (1:27)The importance of aligning everyone with the company's vision, emphasizing the need for a vivid vision and a focused annual plan. (3:03)Why planning for the entire 12-month period, ensuring all core roles are filled and recruiting processes are well-timed, is vital. (4:03)The process of briefing the management team and frontline staff in November or early December, ensuring everyone knows the plan for the year. I can't live a life on purpose if I stay on the bench.
Because we know that our faith will be tested, we're going to decide to be faithful now.
Because I know temptation will eventually show up, I can pre-decide to be ready today.
The most important decision we can make is to seek first the one who matters most.

At the end of our lives we all want to be able to say the words of Paul “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7–8). This week we get to hear from Don Finto, an elder advisor to Beltway, who has faithfully served the Lord for eighty-three years. Join as we conclude our Think Ahead series with seven decisions God has placed on Don Finto's heart that will encourage us to say: I am a finisher. Sermon from October 27, 2024
This week we explore the true meaning of generosity beyond just financial giving. In a world that trains us to make everything about ME, God calls us to something different. He calls us back to the design of the universe. He calls us back to be like Him. Out of all the decisions we've discussed through the Think Ahead series, this decision is the most radically opposed in our society. You will have to make a pre-decision "I'm going to be like Jesus. I'm going to be generous!!" 2 Corinthians 9 makes the point that when we sow sparingly, we reap sparingly; BUT when we sow bountifully, we reap bountifully. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God! God can change eternity through the weakness of our generosity. It's generosity that creates true riches! This message will encourage you to embrace God's generosity and apply it to every area of your life. Register for the IES Women in Sales Leadership Development programs here. Today's show featured an interview with Sales Leader John Reilly, Sr. Manager Global ISV Sales at Amazon Web Services (AWS). JOHN'S ADVICE: "Execution starts with relationship and trust. You only have one thing in this world, and that's your word. Once you break it, you're done. Business is built on trust with your customers and with your team. It's the most foundational element of all business. You have to earn the trust. It's an active thing, not a passive thing. You're not just granted trust, you have to actually go out and earn it."

Decision fatigue, no decisions, fast decisions, decision regret, bad decisions, great decisions — there's so much to talk about when we think about decisions in our day-to-day life and decisions we make now that will affect our future. Sadie and pastor and author Craig Groeschel talk ALL about this and share some practical ways we can be thinking ahead so that "big" decisions won't seem so big when we encounter them.
